Love how these tips are structured in a "work smarter not harder" mindset along with focusing on sturdiness, efficiency and longevity for the props being created. And speaking of props, very nice wordplay at the end 😁

Thanks Jack! I think I like that piece of wordplay more than the actual props!! LOL

used 1$ golf clubs that you chop the iron off make amazing supports! If you know how to weld, you can even make relatively light support squeletons.

Hello! I'm a complete newbie here. I made my first helmet, but I used EVA foam a size down from the 10mm (not sure if it's 6mm or 8mm). My youngest wants to be Marvin the Martian for Halloween this year. Overall, I'm happy with the shape & how it turned out so far, but it's wobbly. Probably from not using a thicker foam?? Any tips for what I can do or what I can line the inside with to make it more rigid before I seal & paint it? Thanks!!

@BlackSheepProps 2 года назад
Hi Shannon! First build - awesome!! You will never be able to stop now! Yeah, wobbly probably due to the thicknesses used - if it’s also a tad too big you could always cut strips of foam to line the inside with? Like a football helmet does. That would stiffen it up a bit. A lot of makers use upholstery foam and they hot glue strips around the inside for a snug fit - not sure if upholstery foam is dense enough to make it stiffer though?

Why don´t you just use fiberglas cores like it´s done for Larp weapons since .....idk....ever.

I’m working on a gigantic shield from a game tales arise from character Kisara. Her shield is huge and I’m unsure what to reinforce it with. Either copper dowel or pvc dowel what would you recommend and any advice is greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Hey Brittany! Hmm? Check out my build on the Deadzone Defender Shield. I used multiple layers which made it sort of stiffer - but the technique used to make it curve seemed to really add stiffnes. That could work? But if you’re talkin' about REALLY HUGE, maybe take a long steel rod - 1/2" thick or so - and bend it into a large rectangle, then dremel a trench for it to live in, and sandwich it in between 2 thick pieces of foam? My Megaman Sword videos show trenching with the dremel and embedding a steel rod. May the force be with you!

Question.. the core I used wasn't good enough and now it's floppy, how do I correct that or am I screwed? Is there any way to give it an exoskeleton?
@BlackSheepProps
@BlackSheepProps 4 месяца назад
Hi! Hmm, the only time I have done exoskeleton sort of stuff is with small thin pieces. When it is small or thin I paint the entire piece with super glue and when the super glue drys it leaves a thin hard surface coat. Only other thing I can think of is - if the piece in question is flat on the sides and not shaped, they sell really thin metal strips at the hardware stores so instead of the support being round it is thin - then you can lay it up against the flat outside of your piece and using contact cement overlay another thin piece of foam so you have a thin metal support added. It will add a little bit to the width you wanted but with a thin metal strip and a thin piece of foam ( maybe 3MM ) it will be stiff.

Thank you. For making holes in foam, you might want to check out cork borers. They work great and are graduated in very small amounts.

Hello friend, i want to make a running supporter from eva foam but it needs to be more rigid after shaping than usual eva foam. I can't put anything inside it, is there any external method to harden it without making it harmful to health ?
@BlackSheepProps
@BlackSheepProps Год назад
Hi! Hmm? Not that I am aware of, sorry! Since I build things that are only for holding or displaying, sometimes I will ”paint” a smaller piece of foam with super glue and when it dries it sort of creates a stiffer outer shell. But I don’t think that would be strong enough for what you need.
@alperen_yslnr

@@BlackSheepProps thanks for the tip, i need something semi rigid, not full rigid at all already. Is 100kg/m^3 dense for an average eva foam ?

I’m planning on making a pirate sword, what would you recommend for a curved blade sword Core?? Thank you
@BlackSheepProps
@BlackSheepProps 2 года назад
Hi Georgina! I have used 1/4 inch metal rods from the hardware store for some of my props. You can bend it to curve to basically create a double support. Check out my Boba Fett EE3 build on my channel - I used that technique in the handle. Should work.

Hey Steve I have a pet chair made from sponge like foam that’s glued together into a chair shape with a fabric cover that I put on a passenger seat on a motorcycle that my dog rides in. How can I reinforce or harden the foam so it’s less flexible and is more rigid for my furry friend to be more secure? Any help is appreciated.
@BlackSheepProps
@BlackSheepProps 6 месяцев назад
Hi! Not sure what kind of foam it is, but I know with EVA foam you can slice the foam in half like 2 pieces of bread and imbed something stiff in between the two pieces like in my video. But again, I don’t know what kind of foam it is so I can’t guarantee it will work like it does in my video on inner supports.

@@BlackSheepProps it’s not like regular styrofoam it’s the sponge like one that’s been glued into a shape of a oval chair, it’s pretty sturdy but deforms when I watch it down to my bike to keep it secure so I’d like to use something on the bottom and sides so it keeps its shape and stays sturdy. I’ll try to figure out what kind of foam it is I believe they might use it in tv packaging boxes but I’ve also seen regular foam too and it’s not that.
@BlackSheepProps
@BlackSheepProps 6 месяцев назад
Hmm, really don’t know about how to strengthen foam other than EVA? Sorry. Maybe you could make a box with really thick EVA foam ( 18MM or 24MM ) - 4 sides and a bottom - and then hot glue your current foam inside it as a cushion? That way the structure is sturdy from the EVA and the inner part is cushiony from your foam?
