This small Minnesota River is LOADED with Fish! (multi-species)

Decided to take my dog to a little river just south of Minneapolis for a few hours and boy oh boy did it NOT disappoint! I wont lie, it was a bit sketchy at certain parts of the wade just because the water is still fairly high and moving fast, but that didn't stop us from exploring some deeper holes and pulling out Walleye, Smallmouth Bass, and Pike! What do ya'll think broke me off under the bridge?? I think it was either a BIG pike or a muskie!

When I lived in MN, I used to fish either the cannon or the Zumba’s with my canoe. Both had shuttle concessions that would provide a 12 mile expaerience. My fishing partner Larry and I I would very frequently have 60 fish days.

I appreciate the comment! You know, it’s one of the main things I love about summer wade/kayak fishing - having the pup with me. She gets to have the time of her life for a couple of hours and we both get to watch each others backs while having a blast exploring new water! Haha

That was probably a big Pike. I don't think there are any Muskies in the Cannon River, but there are a lot of Pike. You might want to consider using a 20 lb mono or flour leader in front of your lures. Even Trilene XT line will help reduce bite offs.

There are so many good rivers to fish in Minnesota. The Long Prairie, Crow, and Rum are just a few of the others. Just remember your bug spray. 😊

Yep, that's why I use leaders and at least 30 lb braid when using swimbaits and the like- if a bass is willing to eat it, so is a pike - and so is a giant pike. Caught my largest fish (42 inch northern) on a 5 dollar reed runner, they aren't always in the mood for huge stuff. Good fishing regardless though! Sad you lost him

Very true - hard to stick to strictly assuming bass are going to eat in these Minnesota rivers - seems like I catch a pike or two every time I go fishing on the river now! Thanks for watching!!

I like your energy bud! I've been fantasizing about getting out and fishing the last few weeks. Really want to make a smoked pike chip dip. But between the kids and job have not had the time or energy. Will just need to live through RU-vid for now.

@@LoOutdoors yessir definitely something I'm ready for! I live in Hawaii currently. All of the beaches here are super overfished and you can really only catch babies shoreline fishing. It's gonna be so nice to reel in something bigger than 10 oz 😭 but I wish I could bring my poles with me too 😪

You'll love Minnesota. My grandparents lived on BIG sauk lake from 1932 and we just got back from there great fishing in late September

I know this place, good for walleyes and all day small mouths. Carp all year round and white bass when they are running. Good fishing.

Germany sounds cool to live in! Yeah it’s hard to imagine leaving the lakes and rivers of this state though… I’m constantly pinching myself when I’m out fishing some of these local spots!

Thanks Jase! I use Pline Floroclear for almost all my stuff unless I need other line in a pinch - then I get suffix. 8lb test on my river/lake spinning combos and 12lb on that baitcaster

First 5 seconds of seeing the spot I knew… how do I know? If you get the chance, on that exact side of the bridge, the NW corner, there is Zayo written on the interior side of the wall… this spot on the river was INSANE during the heavy rain a month ago. It was moving!

I love fishing the cannon river. Seen a guy catch a huge brook trout in the cannon and my friend caught a 3 pound red belly piranha in there right at Welch village. And that's a fact I seen the piranha chasing a carp 5 minutes before my friend caught it..

Hey there! If you’re in lakeville you aren’t too far from a cool river that runs through Northfield. That river is loaded with fish and lots of bank access pretty much all up and down from there to the Mississippi River. Lots of good fishing near cannon falls too (wink wink) - hope you and your son can get out there and smack em!

@@LoOutdoors I run 14 pound test on my spinning reels, if I’m going for cats or carp it’s 50 pound braid and baitcaster setup heavy pole. River fish hit and fight different!

There's a reason 13 fishing rods are always on clearance at Fleet Farm. That's happened to every 13 fishing rod I've ever owned. No more. All their stuff is pure 🗑 🚮

I have one more 13 fishing rod in my arsenal I’ve had for years… if that one ever fails I’ll never buy another 13 rod. Side note to this broken rod you see in the video… I got another one just like it and the same thing happened a few times after taking it out. Snapped clean in half while making a cast. Pretty wild!
