This is my small sailboat that is actually an inflatable sailboat based on the Intex mariner 3. I am taking you through the whole setup of this small sailboat and then I take it out for some sailing.

This is one of the best videos on RU-vid on how to set up a sail and rigging on the inflatable boats. You did a great job. I subscribed.

Quick emergency sail if the wind is behind you: Wedge the oar paddles into the oar locks (tie them in place for extra security), cross the oars over and tie them together, then tie them to the front and back of the boat so you have a giant secure "X" above the boat. Tie the top two corners of a tarpaulin to the top of the oars and the bottom two corners to the boat, with adjustable length lines on each corner to change the angle of your sail.

That's pretty cool, sounds like that would be very effective, great for a quick downwind sail. Thanks for sharing! The other day we wanted to go faster downwind and had some umbrella's that we used as sunshades because the sun is so strong and hot here, but we turned them sideways to go downwind faster and it made a big difference too!

What a lovely family :) Anyway I'll stick with my suzuki 6hp. After 1.5years of sailing I learned that sailing requres a lot of patience: waiting for the ideal wind speed&wave height , then returning home, trying again and again every weekend until you find the wind
@DutchSailingFamily
@DutchSailingFamily 3 года назад
Hi Serdar! Yes I think I can agree on that... if you have lots and lots of time to spend, it's ideal. If not then maybe motorised is a good way to go =) Personally I do love the silence of sailing. Plus when it's just me... I'd rather jump on my kiteboard!! Thanks for the nice comment 😃

@DutchSailingFamily
@DutchSailingFamily 3 года назад
@@KC08RAS Hi Steward, good one. Actually with this setup I'm quite convinced that the mast or sail would bend before it would capsize by wind. If it was to happen anyway perhaps leaning on the side of the boat could get it upright again, perhaps with a line from the mast foot. I don't think it would be easy with this design!

Definitely going to add this to my boating setup. But instead of the Mariner lineup, I'm considering the Excursion 5. Little bit bigger, problem is, the company doesn't have the kit available for the Excursion lineup. I'll have to upload a video when I do get the parts and it gets set up

Hey Mortag, that would be cool to see, would love to check that out when you get round to it. It's a fun project and it definitely sails!! I do notice a big difference with less people on board in speed, but the nice thing for us was to enjoy it with the family. And after all we're not trying to win races but just having fun on the water. Enjoy!!

@@DutchSailingFamily MARINER 3 SAILBOAT Based on the Intex Mariner 3 (formerly Seahawk II). 1-3 people. $799 & up This is the 2nd from the top, is that right? $799? Well, now I feel a bit better, though mine is still quite expensive, $168 just for ALL the aluminum, Though... the company says there is a $150 minimum order meaning for at least $150 (plus taxes) I'm actually getting around 35% more material than I need, which means I would have enough material for a second simplier sail config and enough to enlarge my design for larger inflatables.

@DutchSailingFamily
@DutchSailingFamily 3 года назад
Hi Bigemugamer, the outside diameter is 32 mm and the wall thickness is just under 2mm 👍 Are you making something similar?
@bigemugamer
@bigemugamer 3 года назад
@@DutchSailingFamily Sweet so (32mm)1.25" x (2mm)0.078" I believe I'm settling on an aluminum tube that's (25.4mm)1"x (3mm)0.12" So my tube (If i 100% settle on it) is a bit narrower but slightly thicker in the wall and currently sits at 57" (1x30"+1x27" plus 6" inner connector sleeve) tall with 3 stays for stabilization and I believe that will work. YES! As a matter of fact I am building something similar! I'm converting my 'T.A.U C101' (it's a 20 year old inflatable dingy with 5 separate air chambers, never used till this year, 4 times in the river, I could not find anything... ANYTHING online on my boat surprisingly and box is thrown out so I'm not even sure of the make only manufacturer number) it's a very well made dingy, 9' x 4' with 6'x1'8" internal move-around-in room. Though I'm creating an aluminum frame that sits around the whole boat with a forward and aft sprit, the boat will have 3 sails, a gaff rig main sail, a gaff rig 1/2 size spanker and one of those easily furl-able jib sails. been working on designs and schematics for a month now, bough the wood for a floor, and most of the hardware, today may be the day I buy all the 1"x2" rectangular, 1" square, 3/4" square and 1" round (all 1/8") aluminum tubing. My girls excited to see it completed as the final drawing I did looks super professional!! =D My design is built to be collapsible and containable inside one of those wheeled luggage suitcases with the extendable handle with nothing exceeding a length of 30" or a width of 20" which nothing including the 3 piece floor boards exceeds... and yes... it's kinda of an expensive project lol I will upload a video with all diagrams and an assembly of the boat in it's entirety. Lastly, It's designed to allow the frame to be extended in length and width to fit it to larger inflatables in the future like the Excursion 5, so a bit costly but future proofed. ;) I am open to any comments or questions you may have and thank you so very much for your mast's dimensions... It's quite hard to find that kind of information on the inter-web I found. =)
@DutchSailingFamily
@DutchSailingFamily 3 года назад
@@bigemugamer Wow, even now before you've actually built it I'm already super impressed! Drawings and design done.. what a great project to keep yourself busy with. I will be very curious to see the result, absolutely share it with us on RU-vid, that would be really interesting! Do you have a timeline for the build or are you just taking it as it comes and whenever you have time to spare? With my friends I have actually tried to construct something out of PVC pipes on an inflatable dinghy.. we took it to the water but as we probably could have guessed everything became wayyy to flexible.. But we had lots of fun in the process!! 😃
@bigemugamer
@bigemugamer 3 года назад
@@DutchSailingFamily I also considered pvc pipe in the beginning but felt it may be to flexible and fragile for thinner tubing and to heavy n' bold for anything sturdier, aluminum 6061 felt to be the only way to go considering my design. As for timeline, I do not have constraints right now OTHER than my own OCD constantly refining and improving the design and modifying weight which is one of the only real obstacle I have... plus I do procrastinate which never helps lol At first it was just a series of drawings a few weeks ago for a 'if-I-could' project but then some math, geometry and a week later it turned into a 'I'm-totally-doin'-it' project. I should have had everything done for this past weekend, but tardy not exactly clear emails back and forth with a few metal warehouses and personal procrastination have turned this into a possible 5 week project before completion, meaning I'm about... 3/5th's... of the way done. Oh and yes, A video will follow completion, accompanied with all the drawings, designs, dimensions and costs as well as a detailed assembly from suitcase to river. I'm hopeful the video will be up before October 1st. =D
