My grandparents were native American. My mother shared stories her parents told her about their life growing up, was not happy all the time. Native Americans contribute many things to this country and still have not been treated like equals. I loved the movie because it showed the strength of the people. I want this song played during my transition to the next life and in the celebration after. My grandfather was also removed from his tribe and family as an infant and placed in an abusive reform school. He would not speak of it, never knew who his parents were nor his tribe. I was evicted from my own home several years ago because the park I lived in changed hands. I had planned on living there the rest of my life, had gardens and a little pet cemetery. I was forced out and I’m still filled with the pain, rage and helplessness of being displaced. Thank you for your beautiful soul and music! 🙏

In the spanish empire this title had legal weight and power, many rich noble indigenous that held lands, wealth, and power would refer to themselves legally as “indian”. Every time i heard this song its makes me cry 🥺❤im indigenous person and sometime people make fun of us by speaking our native tongue 😔. We are just showing the world that we still exist 🥺. I didn't know that this comment would get many like. To clarify im a mayan descent😊🙌🏽 The native language I speak is Q'anjobal Many people have commented and yes there are still people who do not know how to respect indigenous people, unfortunately. Some people feel superior. I have encountered many people who have experienced this and they told me. and I have seen that many native people they decide to not teach their kids in their native language so that they do not have the same experience.

I have watched the movie, Last of the Mihicans 100 times & cry every time. The Native American Indian is the true Americans. The rest of us are immigrants from other countries. Nobody has made up for the loss that our ancestors took from them. Their people, homes, land & buffalo was destroyed because of greed. They were protecting what was theirs. Indian lives matter too. I'm just another random white dude, but I think Native American culture is the most beautiful on this planet. Many years back, we happened across a native song and dance in Banff, Canada. We were nearly brought to tears by the raw emotion and powerful spirituality of these people. We've never seen anything like it since, and we are poorer for it. A huge loss for humanity, if this culture dies.

It's very sad because my sisters and I are having a hard time finding records from our Native side. Our Great grandparents have no birth certificates and no record period of our family before them. Our father and his 8 siblings had no birth certificates but our grandparents had school records and Baptism records for them. We weren't taught the whole truth in school and now a lot more has been erased. It's criminal how they were treated and still treated to this day.
