Very few vehicles, if any, can rival the reputation for quality, durability, and dependability enjoyed by Toyota trucks. The VW Beetle, maybe, and possibly early Honda Accords. No, not even them.
A giant cult following has been loyal to Toyota trucks for more than 50 years, and cemented in place their legendary status in the automotive world. In terms of resale value, very few vehicles can come close.
It turns out there is a pretty good reason for that - these trucks are indeed far more reliable and dependable than most, and as Top Gear found out in a segment a few years ago, almost impossible to kill (see links below).
Probably the most famous of the 1980s trucks like this one is the SR5 Turbo featured in Back to the Future, which Marty McFly has Biff polish up for him before dragging his lady friend off in to the woods. That truck helped push the desirability factor off the charts, and made fans of the truck forever - as a result, collectible prices, always fairly high, are rising faster than ever - many of these trucks were chewed up and thrown away, and despite high production numbers, not too many nice original examples are on the market today.
