This Store Has CHEAP LUMBER / BUILDING MATERIALS Year-Round! (Reused/Reclaimed Lumber, Tile, Etc...)
The Habitat For Humanity non-profit organization builds affordable houses for people all over America and the world. But, they also run an associated chain of stores, called the Habitat ReStore, that stocks and sells a huge variety of used goods!
www.habitat.org/
www.habitat.org/restores
www.habitat.org/restores/dona...
www.habitat.org/volunteer/nea...
Many people come to the Habitat ReStore for used furniture, like couches, chairs, wardrobes and bed frames. But lots of people don't realize that the ReStore also carries tons of LUMBER AND BUILDING MATERIALS!
Everything in the ReStore has been donated by contractors, builders, and people like yourselves. The building materials tend to be in the back of the store, closer to the donation dock.
On any given trip to the ReStore, you may find:
-Lumber
-Tile Products
-Cabinets
-Doors and Windows
-Toilets, Sinks, Tubs
-Carpet Rolls
-Cabinet Hardware
-Door Knobs
-Lighting Fixtures and Fans
-Appliances
Much of it is in very good condition, and it is priced well below normal retail costs!
If you're in need of a certain item, and don't think you'll find it at big box stores or lumberyards, try the Habitat ReStore. Eventually, everything comes through the door! You'll find reused and reclaimed goods of all descriptions.
Also, if you're pulling good building materials out of a job site for a remodel, be sure to drop them off at the Habitat Donation Dock at your local ReStore. The workers at the dock can tell you what they might want or need, and you can avoid throwing good materials into the landfill!
Thanks for watching! Be sure to check us out at The Honest Carpenter Website:

I'm just above HFH's limit for whom they'll help, and since my home is in rather a dire situation, it's a little bittersweet to read your comment. That's why I'm on channels such as this at all, to learn as much as I can, and to do as much as I'm able by myself to try to combat the effects of a crook contractor. Disability and being alone makes one quite the handy target.

I hope they expand their operations then. There’s only one ReStore in my county and it’s in the least convenient city to get to from the majority of my county, geographically, and nearly an hour drive away.

Amen to this! I've known a few people who benefited from HFH homes, and it's just a FANTASTIC organization. The ReStore chain has been a godsend to me more than once, especially because I live in a truck and typically am better off picking from partially built/otherwise-processed wood pieces to rig things out of, rather than working with raw lumber. Absolutely love these. I'm so glad this awesome guy plugged this awesome org!

@John M. That's a stellar idea. I'm building a nonprofit related to homelessness issues and my favorite thing is solving problems with problems. I planned to put some street kids to work learning trades and helping with building affordable housing, but even though I have a lot of passion for the con/ex-con community too, I hadn't thought about working them into that chunk of my plans. Thanks for spreading that great idea!

@John M. That's so dope. And one of my biggest overall Things is aggregating and increasing availability of/easy access to data about things exactly like this, for other organizers to easily look at what's been tried and measured. Thanks a ton dude, I'm stoked! Can I ask what context in school you studied this? I'm curious about what sort of program/area of study this was relevant for.

The Restores are a good thing for everybody. Some of the donated good actually goes to help build/remodel houses for Habitat families. Just keep in mind that every Restore is managed locally and they will all have different things depending on who donates to them.

When I was working as a builder I would always donate stuff to the Restore mainly because I believed in the mission of Habitat for Humanity. They have helped people all over get established in a home of their own and changing for the better the lives of families. Since retiring, I have helped many people with kitchen remodeling jobs with cabinets and materials from them. Thanks for giving these fine folks a shout-out!

A good reminder of an authentic resource. That is a lot of stores around the country. I’m finishing our basement currently and put up a unique chandelier over a dining room table we bought at a garage sale. It is perfect for that space and the Re-store reminds me a a giant garage sale full of the unique. When I went there they had a large garden tub that must have cost a fortune new.

Thanks Ethan, we've remodeled an entire house from 2 restores that included tile, grout, backsplash, tub and shower combo, sink, cabinets both for the bathroom and kitchen, laminate flooring, interior doors and new closet doors, and 3 large bedrooms of carpet.. the home was 2700 Sq ft. We are currently rehabbing a 900 Sq ft home, obviously we need less, however most of the 13 windows, 2 doors, cabinets and countertops and flooring I coming from there as well. Thanks for the info as always its great... blessings PS We also have helped volunteer to build Habit Houses... fantastic organization

There are two Restore Stores in our general area, one more than twice the distance of the other. Around 2010 when they initially opened I got good deals on some decent stuff. We built my daughter's Tiny House with many items from Restore. That said the price have risen significantly. For the Tiny House we got brand name salesman sample size windows (prefect for the Tiny House) for $20 each. Today they probably would want $60-$80. I've seen stuff you can buy new at the box stores cheaper than they are asking. Right next door is $1 Store and the exact (donated) item is $2 at the Restore. Yet in a reverse manner (and the deals I'm there for) they can have a shiny Harbor Freight drill and ask what it sells for new ($12). But on the same shelf is a Milwaukee drill (that if it even had only 10% of its life left will outlast the HF drill), scuffed and a light surface rust on the chuck - and they only want $7. Fortunate me! As to their lumber, not very much. Never seen more than a handful of 2x4's at a time (and often none). Hardly any plywood, but hundreds of hollow core doors. There is no outside area. We got Tongue & Groove to do the TH bathroom for $100 but it was half the volume of what we had found at on Craigslist for half the price. The best deal we got was primed 1x3 to trim the T-House. So, in the end it worked out well for my daughter (16 year old paying for the TH with he violin teaching money) but if she was doing it today I'd think most everything would be hard to justify the current prices. So, go, enjoy and I hope you find a deal on what you need. I'm just saddened because I remember Restore when it was a better time.

Seriously I love these kind of stores selling used or surplus items, you are supporting people who are helping the community, help keep the environment and landfill, you can find some stuff that you don't find regularly at big box stores, yet the best they always have new stuff their inventory changes much faster than any store that you can think off

Thanks for mentioning ReStores on this channel. Yes, I have found these sources (2 in my city) to have very good quality products, both new and used, at very low prices. My most recent purchase was a Casablanca fan during a 2-day "clearance" sale at the ReStore. These were 300 to 400 dollar items when new, and made in the U.S. This one I had purchased was still running but absent the wood blades.

We have a Restore in town I have not utilized the store as a customer, but I have volunteered numerous times to help build homes and to help in the warehouse itself. Absolutely a goldmine of item. Great info for this retiree with a budget of what the social security check allows. I’m trying to assemble a shop now, and your advice of the most important tool is going to be that skill saw. Also, saw your workbench video and zeroed in on a few other items that won’t break my bank. One more thing - I like your style/personality. You seem to lean towards what I find appealing. That is, not worrying so much about perfection; rather, focusing on durability, functionality, simple for average budget minded Joe to build. In the 50's and 60's we had the Dwane wrecking yard on the Southern Artery. It covered several acres and had the usable remnants of buildings that had fallen to wrecking crews. Area homeowners went there for heavy timbers, doors, windows and plumbing fixtures at rock bottom prices. That site is now a car sales lot but it was much more useful when it was Dwane's.

This may just be the three stores I have shopped at in three cities, but the prices don't seem very consistent and I have found them to be just as high as new stuff on occasion.. Awesome tip bro!! I’ve donated here a bunch before, but never thought they carried a lot of this DIY material. I’ll be there tomorrow as my next project is to build shelves for my new shed. Thanks 🙏🏽

If you donate your cabinets to them, they'll actually come take them out for you! There's usually a wait time, but that level of free service is incredible

Great Information on the ReStore! I volunteered in Austin at the first one in the country.( before it was the ReStore) I couldn’t be prouder with its success.

I'd never heard of Restores. They sound like such a great resource that I was sure I wouldn't be lucky enough to have one in my area. I searched, and found there is one just under four miles from where I work. I will be checking them out. Thank you for enlightening me, and others, to their existence.

I have found a lot of this and that at the ReStores around me but rarely any plywood. Pegboard and particle board are plentiful. Usually a lot of nuts and bolts and oddball hardware. I love it.

Great idea I have been in the Restor before but had not even thought of that. Yeah prices right now are insane I was going to build a deck in the spring but until prices come down that is not even an option. I also love the idea of reusing material instead of throwing it in a landfill. Whenever I build something, I try and create something beautiful from what I have lying around.

As a DIY woodworker, this was a great tip. A lot of times I only need a few pieces of lumber and this will become my first choice to shop at. Also to donate finished products to them as well as $$.

I am in the middle of remodeling a condo for my friend that is in a wheelchair. Ran into a snag because couldn't find lumber to build new kitchen cabinets doors. I didn't even know this was an option. Thanks.

It depends. Some habitat stores think they are boutique. There is a HUGE difference between habitat stores. Maybe cheaper or maybe prided the same as Sol's Pawnshop. This video is really specific and doesn't apply at the other stores and locations.

i visit our local ReStore in Bellefonte, PA about once a week. I always seem to find something I need there. They even have used tools too, like table saws, scroll saws, and jointers. It's a great place to find old furniture to upcycle. They often have example photos of what people have made.
