Happy Tuesday, July 30th everyone! A major heat wave will spawn dangerous storms the rest of this week. Damaging winds, large hail, and a few tornadoes can be expected from the storms. Additionally, a tropical system could be named "Debby" by this weekend!
Showers came yesterday to C OREGON & we sure needed rain! Fires are everywhere here in Oregon! The smoke has improved - hoping all the fires to be out! Some will last until snowfall! No more hot weather!

The smoke is a few thousand feet off the surface. The smoke is traveling along with the jet stream from west to east across the Northern U.S. and northwest to southeast across the Eastern U.S.
Strong to severe thunderstorms are possible this afternoon and this evening, however storm coverage should remain scattered so not everyone will experience a thunderstorm the rest of the day. Damaging winds, hail, and a tornado or two are all possible with the storms that develop.
The best chance for thunderstorms with the potential for severe weather is on Thursday, August 1st for Ann Arbor. Even so, it's only a Marginal Risk as of right now so low chance for severe weather overall.
Regarding the named storms, a nice tidbit to know is that since 1948, 13 storms (hurricans, tropical storms, typhoons and cyclones) were named "Karen". Seems like the right thing to do.
Derechos aren’t officially classified until after the event is over. However, there are ingredients coming together that may support a derecho developing Wednesday evening. But even so, it’s just a potential. Certainly not expected as of now.
That’s correct! Trying to pinpoint exact timeframes for storms is near impossible in this type of pattern as weather models are even struggling with it.
