I started driving in this era - you had 205 GTIs, Renault 5 GT turbos, Ford RS turbos etc…it was raw, 5 speed manual gearboxes, massive torque steer, lift-off oversteer etc…the hatches back then were trying to kill your with only 130 bhp…with 300+ bhp that thing must be an event every time it’s driven! 👍🏻

The st170 came with a getrag 6spd, the rs came with a beefed mt75 version 5 speed, i dont want this guy to be seen off buying the 6 speed that are cheaper to only pay rs prices. the 6 speed box is good but 1st gear would be no use in this - stick with the mt75.

love this car. very cool. i have a 250bhp focus zx3 here in california but will be doing some upgrades and upping boost. goal is 300bhp but with boost 400. i wont reduce weight anymore since i need it for traction as i am trying to fit more tire without adding fender flares. the car looks stock more or less. seeing high end sports cars faces when they cant keep up is unbelievably hilarious.

Front reminds me of my 86 Honda civic Si. Really do prefer the more boxy, angular, and simplistic designs of cars from this era. No excess bloat weight and no expense unnecessary tech to break.

I know why it's all over the road and can't put the power down and the issue isn't the power to weight. First @00:01 the rear end is squating hard on that launch. It need stiffer rear springs to stop the weight shifting to the rear on launch you want your weight over your front tyres. Second is it needs a wheel alignment and a little negative camber with focus on toe in as the front lifts on hard launches or acceleration it changes the angle and alignment of the set up. High hp light weight fwd's require slightly more toe in than plain fwd's for this reason.

Love all the old school RS turbos. I had the RS1800 fiesta. And miss that car alot always wanted to turbo it. But too young at the time. And moved back to New Zealand. And had to sell it. Then went to Skylines and Sylvias. Cause that's what we had. But still the mk3 fiesta still has that place. They way they drive, there awesome.

Needs a DV/blowoff valve, that flutter sounds great, but it's the compressor blades screaming in pain! Also makes the turbo 'more' laggy.

I had one of these back in the early 90s, built it myself from a crash damaged and had to re-shell it. Was hard to get parts as ford didn’t make many, they were low production run. Gearbox was 5 speed but was the limited slip diff version from Escort RS Turbo. No power steering so heavy at low speed, cornered better than the escort Rs turbo. Torque steer was nuts on mine which was fairly standard. I could get low 6 seconds 0-60 which was quick in those days. Surprised he’s not getting better times probably can’t get the power down. Needs wider rubber and bone crunchingly stiff suspension setup to get most out of that power to weight I’d guess.

It needs weight put back too bad it's not awd or rwd but still bad ass

Shout out to ignition advantages. Micheal can map a car for sure!! I had a MK2 XR2 with a 2.0 Zetec turbo. Even at 10psi it flew!! Could not blow the thing up, and I tried every time I drove it.
