I love that you’re getting some insights from the team creator! It really gives an additional layer to your content. I hope you do this again with some other team creators. Though we might get Ryota Otsuba on repeat…!
QOTD: When Patrick had conditioned Aurélien throughout the set to click Tera Stellar Tera Starstorm early in game 3 only to reveal that he had brought Pelipper in the back, the rest of the crowd and I knew we were looking at our soon-to-be NAIC champion.
That was honestly beautiful to watch. I watched it live and the shake of the head reaction of Aurélien he knew he was beaten. I’ve watched it 3-4 times since. Amazing conditioning of your opponent through the previous matches.
It was sooooo good. And if you watch His interview with Aaron on this channel, he talks about how it was his plan THE WHOLE TIME if he won game 1. Just brilliant self analysis and play
I noticed you’re trying some new things (for example the interview episode you did with Patrick). I’ll pitch an idea I’d like to see - bo3s with these teams you feature. It might require getting some people together and arranging bo3 battles on console so it’s not just another showdown video, but I think you have the audience for bo3s for sure
Awesome to hear the creators thought on their own team. Any plans to make a preview video for worlds? Things like explaining the format (what do you need to make day 2, does the score carry over to next day), teams and players to keep an eye on, etc.
One thing to I'd want to ask Pat was why he used weather ball on that very last turn of NAIC. That was alot of faith in not getting a paralyse on Caly-Ice
Normal Tera Rillaboom? Reminds me of the Rillaboom raid event, where I proceeded to catch it in a BEAST BALL. Beast Ball Grookey anyone? It’s possible, and I did it on accident.
I made a stupid pledge team (water pledge + grass pledge) and I was wondering if you or other players know what it does. (Swamp, sea of fire and rainbow)
I think it's cuz the game thinks the Caly slot is styll there? (But sometimes when I switch after a yawn and my opp Yawns again, my switch-in mon gets sleepy.) So idk why it actually failed. Lol I need to be educated plz.
First of all, massive congratulations to Patrick. Thanks for bringing him on and breaking down the team. Looking at his team though, while this video did not particularly upset me, it is the straw that broke the camels back. I feel like Calyrex and Urshifu are the prime examples of how VGC is slowly transitioning to a pay-to-win-esque format. Say what you will about the fake out cat or broader power creep, but if 90% or more of placing teams feature multiple DLC legendaries from either the past or current generation, I feel a little bit cheated by the Pokémon Company and GameFreak. Not to mention that with a high volume of matches and relatively uniform teams, luck starts to play a larger factor in one’s success at tournaments. I am a big advocate of Karen’s maxim* but it gets harder and harder to make a creative team every year, and something about Calyrex-Ice in the thumbnail just struck a nerve. Would love to hear your thoughts about this Aaron. * “Strong Pokémon, weak Pokémon, that is the only selfish perception of people. Truly skilled trainers should try to win with their favorites.”
I love competitive pokemon, but I disagree with giving the players the freedom to use outrageously OP pokemon to the point where 100% of the top players use most of them on their team. It makes the game less competitive with the hundreds of pokemon you use and more a PAY TO WIN. Of course, the skills of players are used, but it is significantly less challenging to have frustratingly op pokemon that SHOULD be banned in ANY competitive game.
