So I've found a zenithal works best under a contrast paint. That's because the contrast (or speedpaint, my preferred) paints are much more translucent so the zenithal will show much more strongly. This also works if your painting style is more like super thin glazes applied in many layers.

The Kill Team looks great, but I can also see that you put a lot of work into the production of this video too. Respect!

It is a good advice to get a photo of zenithal covered mini before painting yet many youtubers tend to forget to mention it. Another awesome tip I learned as Kirill Kanaev student - cover mini with satin or gloss primer and put it under desired lightning (e.g. point a lamp on it from above). It will give you perfect lightning scheme, which Kanaev himself uses sometimes.

Working from your own photos to achieve proper lighting on your models is genius. Great tip!

From noobie to noobies: Zenithal + contrastpaints(any brand) = easy godtier results. From there you can take it as far as you want/can.

what i love to do when i do zenithals is that i always - when the mini is properly painted - i underspray it with red or any other color straight from underneath for tt ready

Thanks for the insights. Z highlights are good for an orientation for highlights. I am about to do a test comparison of some guardsmen: one black prime, then paint classic, and the other as z highlights, plus white dry highlights, then also paint classic. I expect there to be zero difference, but now I see the value of orientation and will paint the black one using the z highlight as my guide!

Von einem Bemal beginner zu einem "Semi" Bemal beginner. Hut ab. Ich habe bisher die Zenital technick eher für Contrast Farben genutzt, werde aber für künftige Projekte (meine Weltraum Zwerg Armada welche seid einigen wochen bemalt werden möchte) anwenden ^^

Zenithal highlighting is only good if you got a lack of good lighting in your room or you are working with transparent paints. Not everything content creators tell you is right, nor is what the hundred people who take them at face value says. Think about the reason behind, picture the light source in your head, it's pretty logic and goes from above to below hitting raised surfaces, this will improve your painting and save you paint wasted on zeni's. If you are using opaque paints over the zenithal it'll have no value, however if you paint with transparent paints or contrast paints, zenithals value is unlocked and it truly becomes a good tool.

One important Question: Are you German? I see your Video for the first time and as you started speaking i was like "Dude, he must be german". Like in the middle of the Video my Wife stepped into my room and her first question, without greeting me, was "Is that guy german??" 😂
