If you put cushions on the coach then you can just shove the seat belts in between the seat cushion and seat back cushions, just like they used to do in cars back in the 1960's and 70's when cars had seatbelts but there was no law that you had to wear them. People used to just push the seatbelts into the space between the seatback and the seat cushion and leave them there.

if you add some 2x3 or 2x4s across your saw horses you can more easily cut plywood and it adds stability to them. It also adds in something you can cut into when cross cutting plywood.

I'm sitting here smiling at the progress you've made. You should be so proud of yourself and your achievements. Great job on the sofa Emma and you could always add drawers at a later stage if you find you need more storage that's readily accessible.

Hi Emma 😊🌟 I noticed that if you hinge the back to either swing up or down (swing down add a couple of clips to top to hold it) you'll have a bit of storage there as well 🌟 Just an idea 🌟 Great Job 👍🌟🌟💖

Your skills have come so far...good job. Not sure if your BIL answered your question on the tablesaw straight edge. So I'll throw it out there. The fence side does need to be straight. But imagine you have a piece you hand cut and have 2 curved/crooked sides. Oh no what to do??? Find a piece of board/ply long enough to match your piece, but 6" or something wide with a straight edge. Lay your crooked piece down with your straight edge strip on top of it. Your straight edge piece should overhang the crooked edge by maybe 1/4" and roughly parallel with the crooked edge.. Then screw from top down, your 2 pieces together. Now you will have a straight edge to put along fence so you can trim just enough on opposite crooked edge to get a straight cut edge. Then remove the top straight edge piece flip ply around so new straight edge is against the fence to now rip a straight cut with 2 parallel straight edges. You can also do a plunge cut with the table saw. Put blade all the way down put ply on line up fence then start saw and begin to raise blade. When blade is 1/2" above ply start sliding the ply. Hardest part is stopping and starting point. Use measurements to get close. Remember the blade is round so top side cut and bottom side won't line up. Raising blade all the way up will get them closest to vertical alignment. When lining everything up don't forget about the kerf(blade thickness) and account for it in your measurements.

Emma, you have done a great job with your couch bur I did notice the seat board sag a little when you sat down, if there had been another adult sitting on it with you, it would have sagged even more. so please add some strengthening rails to prevent this, Other than that you have made an excellent job of it,

In regards to the body separating from the frame I will try to explain based on a film I saw years ago in driver training. They placed crash dummies in an old bus and intentionally hit it with a train. The bottom wall separated enough for one dummy to fall through to the ground. Another dummy was half inside the bus and half outside the bus, three seats back from the front door.

If you are buying bolts, the ones that it came with the belt look like grade 8 bolts, whereas the replacements did not. They have different tencile strength and in general grade 8 would be better in this application. As the whole setup is pretty ad-hoc it may not be the weak point anyhow. If you are buying more though, might as well get the right stuff.

Yes! A school bus that had a bad accident here in New Jersey on route 80 separated from the frame. The driver missed a turn and cut across the highway trying to use the turnaround. Then a dump truck ran into the school bus breaking the body off of the frame. A teacher and some children died.

You are doing a great job, Emma. You have problem solved things that would have stopped other people along the way. You can be proud of yourself. Bringing the seat belts up and pushing them under the cushions will be the easiest solution, especially if you make sofa back cushions that can be used on the pulled out sections of your mega bed. The other option is to remove the back cushions to make two narrow single beds for two friends staying with you.

Prototype Emma was revealing. It’s interesting to learn how you’ve gathered data over the intervening 6 years to up your game and conquer your fears of power tools. This is a smart way to be. Power tools can be dangerous, and skills take time to acquire. I think you chose well with the design. Drawers can be convenient - if the space is a uniform size. But that space around the wheel arch is odd, so it’s perfect for odd shaped hard and soft items. Thank you for sharing your process. Peace 🧐😎😜🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

You could always make that space accessible from the front to avoid going in through the top (especially if you decide to put a center beam of sorts in it for any reason). Like allowing it to fold down -as opposed to cutting doors- to maintain that clean line you have. Impressive build; great video, as always.

May I make a suggestion? If you put a piano hinge on the part that comes off at the top of the couch it would stop it from bowing when you sit down on it (and make it easier to lift when you need to access it). Just my 2 cents. You've done an amazing job on it. I was impressed with the angles. I never would have figured that out lol.

When you're flipping those ply for cuts etc and have a finished face, top bottom etc. Put blue tape on there then label top, front etc so as you layout it stays oriented correctly and you cut the correct edges with angles the right direction. Use a pen/sharpie to mark ply edge with an angle mark for blade positions etc

I like the slide out bed design, nice! Just a note, when you put the longer bolts on the seatbelts, add some thread locker before you put the bolt on. You dont what the bolt vibrating loose.
@davep6977
@davep6977 Год назад
Also, nylock nuts work good. Point- I noticed the bolts you bought were silver-ish and the original bolt was gold-ish color. The original bolt (by that color) were Grade 8 and silver plated bolt are usually Grade 5. Grade 8 is a hardened bolt.
