Around Montreal you'll notice if you look niche businesses, but what if they're so unique that they don't seem like they would actually work? If Raplapa can make and repair soft toys for a living can Lampadis do the same with lampshades? Is Helium Balloon Inc going to be able to film all the Instagram number balloons before they run out of gas? Can I increase the popularity of my videos from my mum to your mum with the products from La Licornerie? How many businesses that I talk about can i mention in the description before it sucks as much as a Maison Aspirateur product?

Goldlie's suitcase segment is one of the most adorable things I've ever seen. your enthusiasm and nostalgia for the little guy is very infectious - I wish I could find the follow-up video :c

I think Plaza St-Hubert probably has the highest concentration of unique stores in the city. As a geographer, I maintain nothing will ever replace a map made by professional cartographers. A paper map is like a vinyl record. Aux Quatre Points Cardinaux to me is a brain and eye candy store. More please, especially quirky restaurants. Those are the ones we need to help out after they can reopen June 22. 🌈

There’s a button shop called Rix Rax on the corner of St-Hubert and Gilford on the Plateau. It sells sewing trimmings like zippers, lace, ribbons but mostly just buttons.

The sign on that shop is also, probably, the largest button in Canada

That's a haberdashery! I'm new to Canada, but there were at least 3 in my hometown (Johannesburg, South Africa). They seem like an uncommon, but not unusual thing to me, but I'm the sort of person that shops at those places.

When I was bringing mouldy Goldie to Canada (all the while wondering if I was introducing some foreign spores to the pristine Canadian ecosystem) I gave Goldie some air and introduced him and his travelling companion to a somewhat bemused young girl who was travelling to India with her father. Unfortunately my attempt to record this somewhat whimsical attempt to spark jealousy on your part did not survive my primative tech skills. Alas!

If you're interested, there is two Acadian restaurants in Verdun. Les Îles en Ville and Chez Jacquie et France. Verdun has a large population of Madelinots, people from the Magdalen Islands, in the gulf of St. Lawrence. There's actually more people in Verdun that have ancestry from those islands than there is living there. So best place for seafood in Montréal, personal opinion. You can even eat seal meat too. Maybe not weird/strange, but unique at least.

Great video. Regarding durability : My Ikea table and chairs (granted, the fabric was changed), a hutch and a buffet were bought 25 years ago in Germany and shipped to Canada in a container (don't ask) ... Still fine today.

Librarie Michel Fortin has international books and sold me a French text book from France back then. You can order other language text books from this store as well. This is a very niche library, I think no other library in Montreal sells a Cornelsen or Klett book to learn German. Then there is la belle province which seem to be a resto chain but the signs look different and my friend from Montreal Nord said: "ah go to La belle Province" and I was like "which one?"

Ive totally been at Wilensky's light lunch before the lock down, I found out they dont take credit and had to go to coffee shop across the street to use the ATM haha I will point out mile end has also become the new sort of tech hub, as I work there, they repurpose the old mill and factory buildings into some 'hipster' office space, and for the most part if you have a place to plug in a computer and can hook up a good internet connection your golden. Which may create the illusion of tourists as often times tech companies will just import the labor they want

Hello Paige. I'm a new subscriber and came across your vlogs via a jump from another Canadian vlogger looking at the Canadian rail system. Three hours later, I am still watching your vlogs, not a complaint but a compliment to your ideal timed sized vlogs of 13 mins for the most part (for those that I've watched so far), subject and easy access to meat of the matter. I may have missed it, or you may not have mentioned it in the vlogs I've watched so far but your accent fascinates me. As near as I can tell there are some similarities to a Boston accent on words like car or caah :) and your vlogs have a lot of American TV references. I think I am also hearing a bit of Australian in the mix on your lower pitch in the Quebec's Video Game vlog. I say this all to ask is this a typical (anglo) Canadian accent?

Hidden in one of my videos is the answer to why I have a weird accent. It gets odder every year.

I still buy Lonely Planet books and paper maps. You can think what you like about that but I just find it more comfortable to handle them and easier to quickly refer to them. It may take the death of the last baby boomer to finish that shop.

I don't think a chain of 3 bookstores can survive on one customer. It's not like a restaurant waiting until 2060 for the last customer to leave. I think the video illustrates that there may always be a travel book store somewhere in the world because after the initial decline, there'll be some Keith Tonkins in every generation. I just think it'll be more of a physical geography shop selling specialized maps and books.
