Hi. To help some of you out, Tim's bridge pickup was damaged when we did the recording and we didn't have time to get it fixed properly, so we used gaffa tape to hold it in place. The guitar he's using is a Patrick Eggle Berlin (I think) and the amp is a 150W Engl Invader.
Stu is the guy who isn't afraid to mess up a little bit just to portray his true passion for the music. Henry is perfectly practiced but I kind of feel like he isn't completely absorbed in the emotions like Stu. Then again he plays and sings infinitely more difficult parts, like Tim, which I suppose requires complete concentration. That's what I like about the best rock groups today like these guys. It ain't about the drugs or sex anymore, it's about writing the best music you can, music that requires you to be an orchestra level musician, just in a rock setting. Guys like Buckethead, Rick Graham, Nick Johnston, etc. also exemplify that
God I wish Stu had been on the audiotree shows. The sound/mixing here aint good and Stu is a star. There's not enough decent TTNG live footage from this era
Literally. TTNG changed how I viewed music. Got me into so many other amazing bands that are similar and other heavier math rock bands like don caballero and Hella
Same and now I write because of them 😭😭 this needs to be the new normal cuz this music is beautifully structured and not even having to try to be mainstream. They got “IT”. Glad I was able to see them live a handful of times and when they did Animals Anniversary tour
Seriously. I'm so annoyed I only found them in 2021 😭😭 I needed this during high school big time. Them, Enter Shikari, and Saosin. I missed out on all of them....Fucking hell.
I still can't comprehend the impeccable timing Tim has when they come out of that final break of And I'll Tell You For Why. Thought on record it's definitely 2 guitar tracks...but he still does it perfectly live. Dude just kicks off the distortion, drops the pick, and starts finger-tapping the main riff for a couple finals bars all in basically a micro-second. Seriously...my brain can't switch gears that fast, let alone my fingers.
@@AbsoluteAbsurd That's true. He could've just use his thumb for that, but I thought it looked like he actually uses a pic for the distorted guitar in chorus. Idk. Probably the only time/song he would've.
@@AbsoluteAbsurd I don't doubt it. I watched the guy use a banjo capo along with a normal capo to only cover select additional strings for Baboon and finger tap around them. Dude's insane. This one is actually easier in terms of a lot of his songs.
this performance is magical and far beyond, i have no words to describe how good this is and how much i've enjoyed it over the years, best rendition of both songs there is, this is just special
It was so damn good. Probably the best live show I’ve ever been to. Played the whole of Animals plus some extras on the end, unforgettable night. Hope they come back soon.
Hugely relatable for me. Except if I got to his live vocal stress level, my voice would've blown out during the performance. Somehow he was still able to fucking hit notes at most other points, and that blows my damn mind. I only just found this video, and I'm already in love with how raw it all is, but that it still goes so fucking hard 😭🔥🔥🔥
So summer's here again and like children, we run around these streets at night to find both solace and confusion. Too late to try our concience clear. Hold on to tight. Our hair crimson in, the street light, sunlight glow. Never forget what we shared cos promises were never enough for us. So here's to romance and hot summer nights. Walking through tall grass, there's safety in here tonight we lay down and watch the stars collide. Never forget what we shared cos promises were never enough for us.
That later section of "And Ill Tell You For Way" sounded a little bit like the "Panda" intro. These Collis brothers are just absolutely incredible and Stu's "WOO" at 6:25 was perfectly placed.
@TheGerthax yeah, like what that other guy said...i put my own pickups in and didn't ground it right so I use duct tape to isolate the metal parts from my fingers so it doesn't buzz
@ccaslin6 sometimes the strings can get caught under the rim of the pickup which kinda ruins everything when playing live lol. Steve Vai also does this.
I wish Stu still played guitar for the Animals album, he added such subtle awesomeness that accentuated Tim (is that the main guiatarist's name?) complexity
i was referring to giraffes! giraffes? but tbh in the oxford math rock scene so are these guys, depends what you classify as big, i would say they are big in terms of the scene their in and the music their making
@TheGerthax Its not actually covering the coils. He probably sourced some he liked better than those that came with the guitar and they dont fit perfectly, so the tape stops them slipping forward or jiggling. LIttle jiggles would result in extra unwanted noise.
6:04 would love to hear this ("so let's carry oooooooooon...") part sung live at 100%. Dude's voice was too beat up to pull it off. I usually lightly sing it falsetto since it's hard to pull off well otherwise unless you got the pipes for it
In a sense, this band can be considered experimental.. if youve been turning an ear towards lots of mainstream artists This branch of "experimental" can be considered Math Rock What you must be entranced by are the guitar playing styles that the guitarist is using In fact, lots of other bands have been picking up on this style: Giraffes? Giraffes!, Ghosts and Vodka, and Minus The Bear are a few who use these techniques Other math rock bands include Toe, Pele, and such.
@TheInevitableTaunt ... well if you listen to the first couple of 'YES' albums...you can hear the similarities...also 'be-bop deluxe'... some '10cc' ....'hatfield and the north'....lotsa similar 70's stuff....but like they say....history repeats itself...
@l337man4 yeah I know that. I'm saying for the Animals album, it would've been nice to have Tim going crazy as usual and Stu adding some more subtle stuff that accentuates his riffs
@TheMarkHoppus182 dunno what guitar is but i think the head is an engl invader 100 the guitar looks alot like a prs but somethings telling me a music man or a peavey maybe?
