I think that would be easier because you can tune out. And just day dream, but with this you need razor focus to watch what donations are coming in and keep your npc vibe.
@@Cheesepuff8 It would be actually pretty amazing if she somehow make an internet horror lore of like, her conciseness rotting and she's turning into an NPC, but her mind occasionally returns and screams for help. I imagine if she does that when the trend is about to end, she could maybe prolong the effects of the trend because it's somewhat interesting?
She spawned so many copycats on the live feeds that her stream become a golden standard of proper NPC livestream. She became the Lebron of NPC livestreams.
The fact people find enjoyment watching these, through degeneracy or otherwise, is extremely depressing. These people are going to grow up and be able to vote, drive and in generally interact with other people.
I know the film Idiocracy gets thrown around a lot nowadays, but can you imagine how hard you would've been laughed out of the writer's room if you suggested this NPC stream thing for that film?
This "trend" has actually been around on tiktok for awhile. It's just been popular in Japan/China and it was slightly different. Typically different gifts would be garner a certain movement & sometimes they'd just do said movements on their own while people gifted and sent messages. They'd also dress up in cosplay (I'd usually see neko's, princess peach, etc.) and at times they wouldn't speak. This is just a revised trend of that that's taken off in the US. Doesn't make it any less strange in my opinion.
Charlie is so salty and tight over this it's hilarious. The poor man child is upset that people making more brainy rot content then his can actually succeed, that's got to hurt his ego. Well time for him to piggy back off this trend and milk it for a multiple videos while trash talking it like the hypocritical parasite he is 😂. Stay getting called out Moist.
I saw a clip of Pinky breaking character and scolding her kid, it was so weird. We got a brief glimpse of humanity, only for her to go right back to NPC mode like nothing happened. I wonder what it’s like for her child, watching their mom do this 💀
She is living proof that social media is dehumanizing to society. Artificial intelligence isn't rapidly evolving past us; we're rapidly devolving past IT.
One has more dignity the other doesn't. Like if being a prostitute for money is better than being a prostitute because you enjoy it and have kink then make that money as well.
@@tentinquarantino876bro this has got to be the worse people / old as clowns i seen react to this trend Its funny most youtubers that ik like the trend and hear you clowns are saying bs like this
I feel like the developers of our game just got tired of giving every single person a unique personality and decided to start throwing in literal NPC's
At times I wonder if we are in a "giant ant farm" and some invisible and powerful force secretly adds weird people to see how normal people acts towards them.
It's as if the devs turned their backs on us, and some from the several billion characters indeed devolved into an NPC, given the opportunity of self-improvement and ultimately failing miserably in the process.
What I don't understand is how the people doing this and the people paying for it don't absolutely hate what they've become. If I was ever on either side of that trend I'd without exaggeration be so disgusted with myself it wouldn't matter how much I made because no amount of retail therapy could ever make me like myself again. How they don't just lay in bed every night in perpetual shame and unable to sleep because of their actions is beyond me.
I just don’t understand it period. Like, is it supposed to be funny, is supposed to be entertaining, and how the fuck did someone come up with this idea in the first place
I'm turning 40 this year, I've worked in construction all my life. Charlie has and will always be my source of insight as to what the kids are up to these days. Keep it real Charlie.
You know when I first saw one of those streams the immediate gut reaction I had was an utter chill down my spine. Because I think I realized like you said the factory reset it was demanding.
At this point I no longer see TikTok users as people, I legitimately look at them like specimens. Just the way they think and act is so fascinating I can’t help but watch them.
On the one hand we have AI shows having deep thoughts and existential crises, on the other humans acting like NPC's. What a great time for entertainment...
AI is not yet at a point where it can have any thought at all, it's just very good at mimicing it. Some humans on the other hand are not capable of even that.
“Hey Charlie! Ms. Pinky is having an episode again.. yeah she saw someone with a cowboy hat eating ice cream pass by the window and started doing this repetitive cowboy thing.. oh now a kid just passed with a balloon.. yeah she’s making popping sounds.. And please tell management that we shouldn’t grow roses near her windows.”
I appreciate how this channel is always delivering news I havent heard before or up to date on current events. This trend needed to be called out for what it is, tragic.
It reminds me of that psychological experiment with the people who were given some sort of control over others as the emotes are "making" them do the actions.
This feels like a situation in which when we were younger, older people would always say that they were worried what the youth were watching. But in this case, I’m genuinely concerned for anyone who is gifting this person money
She's really good at it. It's really, really strange, but she is good at it. Probably the nicest thing I can say about it. Seems like OF models are just finding more and more creative ways to get eyes on their SFW content so they can convert people to subscribing to their OF
it is the fetish of control or love of a good looking person reacting to you, specifically. i could see the appeal some people have here... imagine typing an emoji or something and Charlie doing something in response to the thing you typed or sent. it's the acknowledgement and the odd control of making them do a thing. AI won't cut it, this needs to be a real person. pretty girls will always be the best suited for it.
@@Legnica148 It's like spending money on gatcha games. I don't generally understand the appeal and it does the world a disservice overall, but the people doing it are paying for a service and generally won't derive the same enjoyment from donating to charity.
@@Legnica148 I guess my point is that as long as no-one is harmed, people have a right to spend their own money on things that bring them happiness. Sometimes that thing is charity. Sometimes that thing is emojis.
I don’t know if doing those streams would be worse or just watching them. Both sound completely insufferable. But I’m almost impressed by these streamers for having the ability to do this for hours straight. Like i would literally rather stare at a blank wall for hours than do this.
as someone who was on deviantart for 10+ years, thus a certified fetish scientist, i can confirm it's a fetish. it's even weirder when you learn that pinkydoll has been lying about her age and saying she's a teenager when she's in her mid-20s.
She has a kid, I was on her livestream yesterday and she yelled at her child, the child was also falling down a lot and even crying, and what does his pos mom do? “uhHH YOU GOT ME FEELING LIKE A COWGIRL LEMME RIDE IT TUHUUU” like a fucking idiot
How is it a fetish though? Is it the idea that the object is f*ckable and not mentally all there? Is it a Cortana thing? Also lying about your age is nothing close to being new. At least she isn't underaged.
Same here man and yes it is a much better lifestyle, nowadays its considered weird by other others if you are disconnected from all this, but its all garbage, better off working
The fact people are actually watching and sending money to these people is beyond me. these are adults sending money to other adults acting like an NPC
@@Darkphoenix8888 Informative how though? He gave an opinion piece and showcased patient zero. "Here's the brain rot" "This person started the brain rot" "This brain rot is unbelievable, but kudos". Sound's like more irrelevant brain rot too me.
You have done something to the algorithm sir. Now after watching this video a fee days ago, the only lives that come up on my feed are these npc things. Its crazy, what people would do for money.
I had never seen or heard about this trend before watching this video. In moments like this I know that my decision to not participate in social media at all was a right one
Nothing makes me happier than the fact I never picked up TikTok and never will. Almost as sad that NPC is losing it's meaning as a Non-Playable Character
My 11 year old nephew stays with me for a week every summer playing video games, watching shows and eating junk food together as a time-honored family tradition. I'm 42 so we do a lot of generational media crossover. He's always like "Aunt Heazie, look at this" and it's TikTok videos of repetitive humor just like these NPC videos. He screams with delight. There is something about the repetition that's hypnotic for him. It also exposes me to the huge market out there of media for children (a lot of strange humor). I wonder how many viewers of this NPC trend are children...
I can already sense the transition of these "NPCs" to Onlyfans once it inevitably dies out. This trend is just even more evidence on how social media is frying the brain of society slowly.
For sure. Right now its fairly simple and in the mainstream and will die out quickly. But where it will most definitely thrive is combined with only fans content. A lot of degenerates out there will go absolutely ballistic with a nude npc girl
Sometimes I feel like the world is an okay place and some shit like this pops up to remind me that I'm working a hard labor job, buying expensive tools and going to school for technical training just to struggle on an barely livable wage.....
And the worst part of this, is that she isn’t even the patient zero of this. There was a Japanese catgirl who did this before this whole thing blew up in the US.
Even her friend aka Ohio final boss also has been doing this before. He does a rpg fantasy npc when he’s not doing his walk livestreams but pinky is getting all the credit as the “founder”
@@bennybananas6574oh they'll continue forever. they're like bacteria. they appeal to such a base niche that any extermination effort would be hopeless.
Bring back the trends that meant something, like the ice bucket challenge was primarily to raise awareness for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. And it worked
"My fear is that these technologies are infantilising the brain into the state of small children who are attracted by buzzing noises and bright lights, who have a small attention span and who live for the moment." - Susan Greenfield, Oxford University neuroscientist
I mean you can head to your nearest casino and see the same with fully grown adults and old people spending their money on the same thing with slot machines
When the most effort an average person does is press flashing lights at subway, and do repetitive labor, sounds like people are just job training early.
The whole TikTok NPC thing makes me think I’ve fallen into the back rooms and said back rooms is doing it’s best to mimic human behavior but horribly failing time and time again
Speaking from the future here: The Chinese version, Douyin, had these NPC livestreams for quite a while now. Nowadays, you start seeing people going into more niche setups of these streams. A couple examples I've seen: 1. Multiple dancers - 4-5 different gifts, and a girl/guy/whoever does a dance based on the gift 2. Training NPC - You throw a gift, the guy does 10 push-ups. You throw a different gift, he carries a water tank for 1 minute. You throw a third one, he does 10 squats So if TikTok will continue in the same trend, it will likely evolve rather than disappear completely
These NPC streams feel like an AI trying to be human but failing horribly at trying to be convincing. I'm always thankful that I never downloaded TikTok!
To be fair, I feel like an NPC at any job I've had - clock in, suddenly inhuman This is just an extreme, work-from-home experience that makes way more money
I see that the actions we do at our jobs are NPC like, but the big difference is that in our minds, we see this, and during that NPC jobs we can still imagine things
I'm surprised no one has done a "human pretends to be an NPC" streams where they intentionality do the emotes wrong or get annoyed and start arguing with chat for 5+ hours
@@tobiwonkanogy2975its always been that way wym. People find a trend, hop on it, it goes away and cycles a new one. Horse and buggy was preferred over the cringe automobile.
If only the Renaissance thinkers could see us now, they'd be positively beaming with pride at this monumental step forward in cultural enrichment. Truly the height of human achievement.
@@sunfish9341lmao culture. Whats culture but a distraction that at the end of the day were shit throwing apes. Ffs people in the rennasaince fucking thought the planets revolved around earth. Why the fuck do we need their opinions for
wouldn't be surprised if she hit us with a "Crazy? I was crazy once. They locked me in a room. A rubber room. A rubber room with rats. And rats make me crazy."
I think the real explanation is much more simple. Livestreaming has cultivated a weird culture of direct contact with the object of your parasocial obsession: the streamer. People absolutely get a big serotonin rush from seeing a streamer answer their question live, or thank them for a donation. Being noticed by someone you consider a celebrity is a huge deal for a lot of people. What NPC streams do is they skip the gaming, and just provide that high with instant and constant reactions to fan donations. The audience obsessed with streaming "celebs" get the sense of recognition and control that they crave, the ability to influence the attention of someone they think is more significant. And the streamer gets money. It's an addiction. People want to be recognized. This gives them that hit a million times an hour.
I'm so conflicted because this shit has me worried for the future... impressed by the dedication... concerned for the mental health of these people, and confused as to where the fuck the money is coming from to keep this shit going
It unnerves me how much I find it depressing. I can’t tap in even a little to why the fuck people like this and on top of that will waste their money on it.
I've condemned TikTok from the start for a reason. Just another braindead social media cesspool. It genuinely scares me that so much of what the newest generation's media is just the same content recycled over and over again by different content creators. It scares me even more that the content can have such little... body and soul. My niece is 7 years old, and she used to watch Aphmau. I've seen what the internet has done to Aphmau as a character. Then I saw "Minecraft pregnant mermaid mod babies" from her channel in my 7 year old niece's recommended list, and immediately I flashed back to the Elsa and Spiderman garbage that was rampant years ago. (It's crazy to think the same group of people who swarmed around Elsa and Spiderman crud make up 90% of TikTok's population) I've since gotten her to put down Aphmau as a channel, and I've given her some good replacements. I showed her DanTDM and CaptainSparklez. I've given her good content that won't rot her brain. If I ever see TikTok, Twitter, or Insta on any of her future smart devices, I'm going to talk her out of using them, and give her a healthier alternative. If I can't keep her safe from this garbage I will have failed on so many levels.
