Fun fact; they are a high & low pressure compound charge turbocharger setup, cross-over happens between 2000-3000rpm. Peak torque is achieved PRIOR to this rpm, between 1500-1900rpm, from most of the driving I believe you may have been in too 1 too high of a gear for the proper experience; if this is not the case torque wise on that particular car it may be due to o-ring failure between both crossover pipes on turbos, I've had my E60 LCI 535D M-Sport for at least 6 years, only difference mod wise in unflashed and still have back muffler, dpf, egr, swirl flap & cat delete all done. O-rings kill torque
That’s just Malone’s naming scheme for diesel tunes. My X5D has a Malone 2.5 and then there’s a power bump for 2.8 and finally 2.9 has mostly replaced 2.8’s
For anyone checking these out, i got the 330d single turbo manual xdrive in this model.it’s a riot haha! Nobody expects this but it pulls so hard with 750nm and 320hp only stage 2 with downpipe, egr and swirl flaps deleted. Still so much room for more as i still got stock turbo.
I'm sure you can get alot more if the 330d has forged internals. I had my ecoboost mustang making 430 wheel on E30 stock internals and bolt ons and those bmw engines are pretty well engineered in some regards, horrible in others. I have a 328i and like most bmws lots of things are built great but watch out for plastic flanges failing, oil gaskets leaking etc. Especially in the turbos engines, they are known to blow with any disruption of the oil system ie an ofhg changed unless you prime the engine with oil before starting it.
I have the Sutphin ZF6 tune on my 335d. It's been transformative. I have the tune that doesn't upshift when hitting redline in manual mode. The shifts can chirp the rear tires and stock torque reduction is lessened to a large degree. Downshifts are quicker and more precise too.
@@RoadsUntraveled I drive a 330d myself with xhp stage 3, that alone will make any bmw or actually any car with a ZF gearbox come to live! Highly recommend it.
@@mannyk7100 Anything outside of stock is going to be harder on components. There is no lie about that as physics still applies. You have to find that balance of maintenance, performance and longevity and do what makes your heart and bank account happy.
BMW 3 liter diesels are great cars (especially with bi-turbo), very popular highway cruisers here in Europe! I myself have f10 535xd which compared to USA spec (same as this car) is basically 30d in europe. Shame you guys dont have these in there. 313 hp with 630 nm stock is crazy and take 2 turbos into account which means there is no turbo lag at all and it pulls from stand still until rev limiter. In future I want to add proper suspension (KW v3) and minor tune up to 700nm as thats what the gearbox is rated at and eventhough lot of guys in europe run much more that that, its my daily and I dont want to have problems with it. Anyway, great video!
These things are wicked. Just sold my hybrid turbo 335D M sport. With 300,000k on the car & all M3 components, it was an amazing car to own and experience. I only sold mine to buy the X5/E70 equivalent.
These are a dime a dozen in the UK. The big power diesel scene in the UK has been going on for years. But the E9x models and the e6x models in the 2.5 to 3.5d are very common. Running silly amount of torque and power. I don't think there were very popular in the US nor CAN?
Diesel has a bad reputation over here because of all the brodozer lifted trucks. But there are still people who appreciate diesel cars in North America, it just tends to be more popular in Canada than in America. I’m jealous of how many diesel cars and diesel performance shops you guys have! It’s a much better scene over there for sure
would love to pick up one of these as the "nicer other daily" sleeper AF with all the supporting aftermarket of the e90's. Own a '13 Golf TDI malone stage 2 on Koni yellows 50% stiff with H&R sport springs stick 6 speed. best daily around IMO but my driveway isn't complete without what is essentially a M3D ;) check out the alpina D3 vs. M3 comparison if you're curious
As long as people take care of their cars they will be fine 😂❤ it doesn't matter how much miles are on it as long as you take care of it! Its just like anything
Needs an XHP stage 3 and a proper ecu map. These make 400hp+ of just an dpf delete swirl and egr, put an r90 hpfp in it and you’ll see 420ish with stock turbos
Hey buddy. Awesome car. I have an e70 x5 30d. Our cars use the same engine and ECU if I'm not mistaken. Edc16cp35. Mine has the heaviest steering of all the cars in this generation because of the tyre size and AWD system. I just wanted to bring something to your attention that might help you. If you request too much boost below 1000rpm it will make the steering feel heavier and gears shift wierdly. Ask your tuner to edit your map in that region. I'm not sure if he edited the n75 map but it can also do that. I've managed to make my steering feel almost as soft as my previous E60 with some trial and error editing the boost map, boost limiter for atmospheric pressure and n75 maps below 1000rpm and 50% load. Best of luck 👍
This is awesome great video Marcus it's deffently interesting seeing a diesel e90 platform as in bc I've seen a few x5 diesels but no cars I would guess there mostly in Europe
I loved my 335d. A great highway driver. Punch it at 80 and it still throws you back. Was fun filling up at the truck stops and getting looks/comments from the truckers. Only negative was the emissions control system, which will brick your car if a sensor goes out.
RE butt pucker moment...thats how i wrote my 335d off...had all the same mods just also an hpX stg3 and 100 shot of nitrous. Forgot the system was armed mashed the loud pedal on a slightly damp road ...and proceeded briskly thru a brick wall. Car virtually did an instant 90deg turn at 50mph😅
Loved your video dude, specially when it kept kicking out dude I saw that put a smile on your face am a BMW e91 diesel driver and loved it. Love from Uk bro
Ive got that engine in a bmw 1 series so little lighter with hybrids next thing i want to do is valves springs and sort a little oil leak out love it tho
Ive had 3 335Ds, 1 X5D(same M57 engine) still have 1 of my 335Ds now, that smoke is 100% caused by vaccum leak/boost leak/injector leak. That car WILL NOT smoke even with catless defless setup, unless you make it with redneck tunes. @@morstyrannis1951
I've always wanted a 335d bro. Especially the 6 speed manual, (they did make them) from factory these (415lb ft) have more torque than an E92 M3 (295lb ft)
I own a 14 535d xdrive 400hp 600tq, 4k lbs sedan. It runs 7.98 1/8th having traction issues on launch on the street and 12.55 1/4 on the street. I have 8hp transmission and awd, the way this thing launches is just insane. I love it and will be going for 500hp in the future. I looked to buy a 335d but awd was a big thing for me and I'm glad I went that route even if the car is heavier because when I've turned off awd and made it 100% rwd all it does it just spin 275 pilot sports and it makes it slower. These i6 BMW's diesel engines are their best kept secret in the US. I'm happy I got mine, I'm big into diesel cars as all my family owns is German diesel cars. Oh I also get around 650 miles a tank doing 80-85mph on the highway.
yeah if you have a good tune. bad tunes dump excess fuel into the engine which produces black smoke. plenty of properly tuned diesels that dont roll coal.
The 2009 rear wheel drive 335d is my favorite BMW. This video example is a very nice and tastefully done example of the 2011 model. The suspension and the lim slip diff kick this up a notch. I love this car!
Funny how common 335d in coupe and saloon and estate along with 535d in saloon and estate are very common in Europe and the U.K. we get all the good diesels. This is also considered low power for these.. many making 1000nm and more
Please get a set of b14's. You'll love em and they're height adjustable. Beautiful vehicle. Sold my S85 v10 for your same reasons. Fuel was nuts and smg...naaa. Driving my 328 e91 now and im perfectly satisfied..but i want your torque. Dangit!!
Many sporty cars with an auto gearbox needs a tune so the gearbox will stay in gear at redline in manual mode and shift fast when you're accelerating or decelerating quickly.
So many of these in the UK lol love to see them smoke some proper sports cars shooting huge clouds of smoke out the rear the F30 335d is pretty crazy, they make about 390bhp with just a map before you even start modifications
I’ve got a 325d e90. It’s the same engine as this but with a single turbo and comes with smaller injectors. The cheapest way to get the m57 engine in the UK. It’s got an ecu map on it and goes like an absolute train and I still get over 50mpg on a motorway. I can’t believe you’d never heard of a 335d 😂 the diesels are more popular over here than the petrol models which were pretty weak for e9x platform
manual swap is easy, NCSExpert and just highlight and delete the auto transmission %code from the vehicle order, tap the reverse switch into DME, and regular manual trans install. Vehicular DIY has an easy step by step walk through
I just still can't believe how beautiful the US is... driving with the mountain ranges in the distance... man, am jealous af! Love a good German diesel
I run the JR 2.8 and Sutphin on the trans, still has some weird shifts so its not magical on the trans tune but Ill just swap it one day with a brand new one
I just bought the same car exact looking car but with the n55 and thought my power steering pump had gone bad. Car really is just that heavy on steering huh? lol I love this thing though
What the hell on Earht is 2.9 🤣!? I had stage 2 e91 with 3.0 with 300+hp 680Nm. M3 e46 , Subaru Impreza STi and even Audi S4 were left behind somewhere in smokes. Stage 2 by metal (better fuel pump, Wagner intercooler, better fuel injections etc.), Stage 3 by soft. Only hybrid turbine was missed to make additional 50hp. Welcome to Eastern Europa boys... 335 with stage 2 normally comes with at least 380+ hp and 700+ Nm with ProSoft. But, 2.9 still is a mistery. 😉
Hah! Aftermarket speakers... Dont commit BMW blasphemy please. Those are BMW Individual Audio speakers. I retrofitted my E90 with those! Fun project! Especially coming from Base Audio
My friend has an e90 330d that thing is grazy 330kw and 950nm tourq we smoked an f82 m4 that thing is grazy 😂 i think its one of the fastest tuned diesels in South Africa
Rather have a single turbo manual 330d myself. Less complexities and more simple with one turbo and more control over gearing with the manual. Lighter car as well. For front engined RWD cars, 460 ft/lbs is the sweet spot imo, more than that you need AWD.
@@henrym5889 I have a 2009 N57 E90 330D Manual, Stage one mapped with uprated clutch, intercooler and various poly bushes. Nearly 170K on it and still drives like it's only done 50K.... Manual is fun, kinda like old 80's laggy turbo hatches. I love it!
My RWD 335D has 520 ft/lb at the wheels and no traction issues in dry conditions. 255/18 at the rear. Level of traction needed is determined by power output, not torque,.
a tuned n54 can make 600 ft of torque on the stock bottom end, 550+lb ft on the stock turbos. It revs 2-3k rpm higher, and is a much better platform for going fast, generally. Not saying a tuned 335d isnt cool or cant also be fast, but just comparing apples to apples in a real way. IF you have a boner for diesel, go d lol... I'll be keeping my single turbo manual n54..
@@siy4938 Agreed, the stock M57 motor is also forged from the factory and the rods are twice the size of the N54’s and can handle around 1000 ft lbs of torque . I’ve been running 450 whp/ 650 ft lbs for several years now on my 2011 335d. “Santjer Performance “ for reference “ unkillable diesels or hidden in plain sight”.
Just a regular 335d 🤷🏻♂️ Good car for learner but no way embarrassing to any M3 owner, except maybe when parking next to it as diesel smells as disgusting as it sound 😅 The engine start at the beginning of the video sums it wonderfully 😅
