What is the reason for decline in Catholic fervor?
Could I be a victim of a false idea of virtue?
What can I do to correct it?
What is this false idea that could ruin me?
And what does it have to do with St. Sebastian?
Br. Vincent is here to enlighten us on these points…

Nobody was more manly than Our Lord. He was brutally tortured without complaining. He faced what He knew would be a horrible and shameful death. Us moderns have really lost that.

As Christians intolerance is our strength. Intolerance of sin that is. Love the sinner but hate the sin. Modernity keeps trying to weaken us by telling us to be tolerant. No

Thank you Br. I needed to hear this and shared with my sons who view Catholicism as utterly intellectual only whereas the manliness they exude is just as Catholic. They don't have to be "brainiacs" as they say they are blue collar workers and view themselves as unworthy of Christ as so many at our Church are graduates of supreme colleges. Here is a clear example of manliness that is Catholic and a great virtue. Again thank you.

Wise words. I'm not sure how anyone could fall for this delusion when our Lord and all the saints died in the most brutal of ways with stoic determination. Even laymen such as our brothers in Mexico and Spain understood that the defense of the faith may demand your own life, and they went willingly to that end with courage and strength, becoming like Santiago within the last century alone, who boldly proclaimed the gospel until the end. I fear that the teachings of the Enlightenment have poisoned many of our brothers and sisters without them truly understanding the real implications of living in a truly Godless society.

Jesus Christ is the only thing that can fill that part of your heart that seems to never be satisfied permanently. He died so you could go to Heaven, don’t waste this chance, Hell is a very real possibility, give Jesus your life if you want true peace and to feel truly loved ❤️❤️❤️ The meaning of life is to have relationship with God who came in the form of Jesus Christ to die for your sins so you could go to Heaven, accept Him so you can be saved❤️❤️❤️don’t start seeking God until it’s too late, Hell is real but so is Heaven John 3:16 For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him might not perish but might have eternal life. Just close your eyes and say “Jesus, I don’t have faith in you, please help me believe” Jesus loves you, turn to Him before it is too late. He loves you so much that He died for you. I’m praying for you❤️🙏

Thank you Br. We are in sad, distressing times with the heresy in Rome. We must acknowledge his authority and respect the Chair of Peter, but we clearly have a very compromises leader. Stay the course and keep defending the faith. The subversion of V2 must be chastised and reversed if the Church will ever be restored. That is our war. The Church needs us to rescue her.

This is the first time Ive ever heard that grace doesn't work against nature but perfects it. I'm not sure I believe it. But I would like to read more about it more about it. Recommended reading?

This is a very beautiful and very basic Catholic teaching. Understanding it helps us understand Christianity itself better. The basic idea is that the same God who gave us a certain nature, is the one who grants us grace to realize what the nature was created for. We were created to know God, love God, serve God, on earth and for all eternity. Our nature is geared for this task. That is why we have reason, without which we cannot know God, free will, without which we could not love Him, a material and physical body united to a rational soul, without which we could not serve Him, and an eternal spiritual soul, without which we could not continue to do so through all eternity. Now, grace is a participation in God's own nature as St. Peter writes in his letter, by which our human reason and will are made to participate in God's nature. Our human reason is perfected y faith, by which we believe what God wants us to believe, and our human will is perfected by supernatural love by which we love God as God. These will be completed in the Beatific Vision of God in Heaven. Note that faith, though a pure gift of grace (no one can believe by their efforts) works on nature. We believe in articles of the faith (like Christ is our Savior) in our intellect, but with God's grace. Grace perfects nature. The great master of this teaching is of course St. Thomas Aquinas, but it is all over Scripture, and the Fathers of the Church. Here's Aquinas quote on this. He's talking about whether theology can be considered a science since it bases itself on the authority of God who reveals in Sacred Scripture. Here's what he says: "This doctrine is especially based upon arguments from authority, inasmuch as its principles are obtained by revelation: thus we ought to believe on the authority of those to whom the revelation has been made. Nor does this take away from the dignity of this doctrine, for although the argument from authority based on human reason is the weakest, yet the argument from authority based on divine revelation is the strongest. But sacred doctrine makes use even of human reason, not, indeed, to prove faith (for thereby the merit of faith would come to an end), but to make clear other things that are put forward in this doctrine. Since therefore grace does not destroy nature but perfects it, natural reason should minister to faith as the natural bent of the will ministers to charity. Hence the Apostle says: "Bringing into captivity every understanding unto the obedience of Christ" (2 Corinthians 10:5). Hence sacred doctrine makes use also of the authority of philosophers in those questions in which they were able to know the truth by natural reason, as Paul quotes a saying of Aratus: "As some also of your own poets said: For we are also His offspring" (Acts 17:28). Nevertheless, sacred doctrine makes use of these authorities as extrinsic and probable arguments; but properly uses the authority of the canonical Scriptures as an incontrovertible proof, and the authority of the doctors of the Church as one that may properly be used, yet merely as probable. For our faith rests upon the revelation made to the apostles and prophets who wrote the canonical books, and not on the revelations (if any such there are) made to other doctors. Hence Augustine says (Epis. ad Hieron. xix, 1): "Only those books of Scripture which are called canonical have I learned to hold in such honor as to believe their authors have not erred in any way in writing them. But other authors I so read as not to deem everything in their works to be true, merely on account of their having so thought and written, whatever may have been their holiness and learning." These are the articles of the Summa Theologiae where St. Thomas speaks about grace: www.newadvent.org/summa/2109.htm www.newadvent.org/summa/2110.htm www.newadvent.org/summa/2111.htm www.newadvent.org/summa/2112.htm www.newadvent.org/summa/2113.htm www.newadvent.org/summa/2114.htm

I have often thought how far do I go in talking to my Pentecostal female cousin? She is 82. I am a Catholic and I am 76. She has believed in her Pentecostalism since she was a pre-teen. Her father, then her husband, and now her son have been Pentecostal ministers. I explain the Catholic Faith but must be careful it does not become an argument. Is that correct or no?
