After spending the past month in our Metro Manila condo, we’re flying back to the U.S. Unfortunately, our flight from NAIA left 2 hours late and we’ve missed our connection in Guam. Since the next flight doesn’t leave until tomorrow morning, we’re taking advantage of the free hotel, meals, and transportation offered by United Airlines to finally explore the sites and bites of the American territory that 50,000 filipinos call home.

Hafa Adai, Welcome to Guam! 🇬🇺 The indigenous people of the island (like myself) are the CHamoru’s. Remember that Guam is a U.S. Territory, the residents are US Citizens, and yes the US Dollar is the currency. If you venture out of the tourist areas you will find more CHamoru people. I hope you enjoyed your stay! Biba Guahan!

Welcome to Guam! I hope u guys enjoyed ur stay for just a short time. Im from Guam. I see that u stayed at the Righa Royal hotel resort which is the former Sheraton Hotel. I used to work there lol. The second taxi driver I know him lol. Fiji restaurant was a good recommendation. U should try the karage chicken next time there. Im glad u were able to go to the Wednesday night market at the chamorro village. Cris bbq is popular there. Next time u should try Men n Joy bbq. My favorite bbq at the night market. As for the chicken kelaguin, it can be eaten either cold or room temperature. Both totally fine. They add both fresh lemon n lemon powder and sometime fresh shredded coconut. The lemon powder makes it more lemonny/citrussy. The next time u guys come here I hope run into you guys n if I'm not busy I will take you around. Thank you for another great video n for an awesome video of Guam for the world to see!!

Guam has some nice beaches but its expensive as hell. Restaurants are quite expensive because everything is imported from the States. However you can find good deals on cloths there. For a 1,500 sf home, figure around $750,000 or more. Easy to drive around. Donkiedonkie a famous Japanese store franchise just opened up and many upscale malls there.

More than that....Guam used to be part of the Spanish East Indies, and it was known as "Guajan", together with "Las Islas Filipinas" and "Las Islas Marianas". Also, Catholicism was brought to Guam from Cebu, by the Filipino saint San Pedro Calungsod and the Spanish friar Diego de San Vitores. Immigration to Guam from the Philippines started during the Spanish era, and Guam used to be the place of exile or banishment from the Philippines by the Spanish and followed by American colonial government.

I'm also pleasantly surprised how happy you all are to be "stuck" in Guam yet you just came and lived in an equally amazing tropical seaside country. Guam is a beautiful destination to visit but it’s way too expensive to live here. Cost of living is the same as Hawaii with lower wages and flights to the US mainland costs an arm and a leg. The thing I like about Guam is its close proximity to Asia. Flying to Japan or The Philippines is a lot cheaper and it’s a 4 hour flight. People here are friendly and polite, wide range of good food options, beaches with clear blue water and beautiful sunsets almost everyday. The costs I’m willing to pay for to live in this expensive paradise rock.

Guam was the place where political prisoners were kept during the Spanish colonization of The Philippines. So there were many Filipinos there, both administrative, guards and actual prisoners. America took The Philippines' liberty in the Mock Battle of Manila Bay and Spain ceded all it's Asiatic territories to America, Guam included. Then there was the Philippine-American War during which Filipinos tried to regain their short-lived independence and the Filipinos lost the war. But it was not the end, Filipinos demanded representation in the US Congress and it was granted but they cannot vote. However, they did fight for Philippine Independence in the halls of the US Congress and after many years, The Philippines was granted a 10 year period of Commonwealth status during which they try to run their country under the supervision of an American Governor-General and after the 10 year period, America gave back our independence and territories, except Guam was not included. So, do not be surprised if there are many people in Guam cooking adobo for lunch.

The Kelaguen or the Sisig like dish was kept chilled because its a cold food. Traditionally was probably kept and served room temp before we had refrigeration. Yea that's probably made with lemon or lemon powder or both. We only use calamansi if we have our own tree. Its expensive at the store. Here's 2 local favorites to try next time, Jamaican grill and Capricciosa. Jamaiican grill is a bbq restaurant that's good for families or groups. one family platter set can feed at least 4-5 adults. Capricciosa or Caps as we call it, is a Japanese chain of Italian restaurants. Might not be 100% authentic Italian but we love it. Anyone that comes home always has to eat there before leaving. Also many Korean restaurants from big chains to small mom and pops style.

The Kilaguen is a version of Kilawin in the Philippines. So, the kikawin we have here in the Philippines is really served cold or room temp. Other countries it would be a Ceviche.

17:07 Filipino lesson: "kabayan" (stress on the second syllable) means a person who comes from the same town, city, or country. Also, can't help but wonder if "kelaguen" has the same roots as Filipino "kilawín" (ceviche)...

The hotel might have a shuttle that could have picked you up at the airport for free. However, because the airline is paying for the hotel and they already have a bus provided. Maybe the shuttle would not be available.
