When Scott Leone got his Toyota MR2 Turbo in a Craigslist trade, it seemed like the ultimate bummer. Nothing worked. Instead of scrapping it, he put in the V6 this car always deserved, and the end result is one of the most fun cars we’ve driven all year.

While I wholly support any V6 swap or any MR2, they are wrong about one big thing- there are PLENTY of V6 swapped SW20s like this, with most of the owners going 2GR-FE when possible OR 1MZ-FE. Not to take away from this, of course!

V6 is probably the most popular swap next to gen 4 3sgte swaps in Mr2's. Nothing new here. Congrats on saving the car from the junkyard though. I'm running a 1mz in mine.

needs way better research lol, there's a LOT of v6 mr2s around. 3VZ is also the slowest, smallest displacement, heaviest, leakiest motor out of the 1mz/3mz/2gr options.

Cuz its a heavy VZ... A lot of people prefer a big turbo 3SGTE cuz it has more support... Personally, volvo i5 turbo in a MR-S

Every time I see a MR2 video on the internet, even if it's a 2nd or 3rd gen one, I think of the one AW11 standing under a carpot in the village I live in. It's sad to see it not being moved for years :( It's even covered in some weird green dust

Deffinately not the only steel mist gray v6 mr2. That would make the smg v6 mr2 in my garage not exist. My wifes is how ever a 1mzfe not the 3vzfe.

I have wired for a couple hundred v6 mr2 swaps over the past decade. A number of Celica v6's as well. Not as common as upgraded 3sgte cars, but they are definitely out there.
