I don't really think the mistrust is eligible in this case, considering everybody is getting it. Doesn't make sense to fear something, based on being a minority, that the "evil healthcare system" is handing out to everybody. Or rather - While the mistrust is understandable, some quick logical reasoning could get you out of it. Likewise, just because the government in the past has done shady shit towards everybody, doesn't rationalize mistrusting the government in every case.

This is the same reason why a lot of Slavic people are being hesitant. We have a history of the Soviet government experimenting on us. We've seen terrible atrocities committed in the name of science or under the guise of helping people. These sheltered westerners have no idea what the government is capable of. Seeing things slowly move in the same direction as pre WW2 Germany or post WW2 Soviet Union is scary for someone who lived through that shit and I cant blame the hesitancy.
I actually read history books and it's fucking terrifying. As a black doctor, I understand black women’s mistrust of the medical field. Certain tests don’t get run because they think you don’t need it or can’t afford it. I’ll let you know first hand that we treat people with insurance differently. I really don’t understand liberals and the media refusing to get why blacks are skeptics.
A lot of blk ppl have taken it but a lot of white southerners around the Bible belt are like hell no and the Trump supporters as well. They don't focus on them though. The medical science updates haven't convinced me. They are still running trials and that doesn't end til 2023. They need minority children for the vaccines trials for school aged kids....it's crazy to me how children and young teens were not as affected when no one was vaccinated during the first wave but with this variation it is impacting them way more now.

I’m that black woman who dinged “Preach!” I JUST got my second shot 2 weeks ago. It took me so long because of my personal experience with doctors. I don’t trust them. A doctor diagnosed me with herpes when I was 17 after I told him I was virgin. He assumed I was lying. My tests were negative for herpes. I told another doctor I was severely allergic to 2 medications and I wasn’t sure which one because I took them at the same time. He says, “oh! We gotta find out which one. They’re good medications.” On top of the history of mistreatment of blacks in medicine and the fact that my body is sensitive to meds and the fact we are missing critical information about this experimental vaccine, I was in no rush to get it. It’s not that I didn’t care about my neighbors, I had legit concerns about my own health and not trusting doctors didn’t help.
@@randomname766 It depends on the cicumstances of the bad treatment.....and medical mistreatment of black women is a fact per John Hopkins study. They also dicovered that black women and infants are more likely to die during childbirth in the US than any 3rd world country. That is a major red flag.
My buddy got tested for covid and it came back positive so he got retested and the second time it came back negative. Obviously people are going to be skeptical when shit like that is happening
NEVER say you “aren’t smart enough” to understand the science. That’s part of the problem. As a scientist, I feel it’s my job and the job of other scientists to help explain the science in ways that people without a science background can learn and understand the science in all its truth without them feeling like they “aren’t smart enough”. This dependence on “authority” and “expertise” isn’t healthy and doesn’t give enough credit for the ability of your average non-scientist to understand the fundamentals of what’s going on. Education, education, education! NOT “they aren’t smart enough we better just tell them what to do”, that’s bigotry towards the entire regular population regardless of ethnicity. And that’s how those in these positions of influence clearly feel. Like if regular people started understanding things, they’d lose their “power” or standing as “experts” somehow. Just disheartening and sickening.

A vaccine passport is the same thing as an immunization record. It’s essentially proof of vaccination. The same one required at many schools to enroll/attend and needed when going to the doctor. If someone isn’t going to get vaccinated, at the very least they should comply with other protective measures until enough people do get the vaccine to stop the spread and contain the virus. But it’s definitely not a fascist to require medical proof of vaccination if you have it, and making it akin to how it was used to systematically oppress the Jewish people is incorrect. Particularly* because the Germans were using unfounded biological claims to try to separate the Jewish people form themselves, and furthermore, they also pushed to keep the Jewish people in horrible, cramped conditions (the ghettos) and denied them basic hygiene that disease became rampant. Many were afraid to go to the doctor because they were afraid they would be deported and turned in to the Nazis. Remember this was on top of using unfounded biological claims about their ethnicity to encourage their maltreatment.

Very true. In Africa, a lot of people have refused to take the vaccine, some countries even destroyed vaccines sent to them cause people refused to take it. There is a general mistrust of vaccines in Africa due to past atrocities perpetuated by these pharmaceutical companies.

When I started hearing that there was a lot of mistrust in the African American community, the first place my mind went was to the Tuskegee Syphilis Studies. I still cannot wrap my mind around how completely monstrous that was. And I do not blame ANYONE in that community for not trusting the government and/or the medical industry given those events. While I decided to get the vaccine, I support every person making their own decision. And if you're a minority and you don't trust the vaccine, I will say this honestly: I understand your reasons for mistrust and support your right to make the decision you feel is best for you.
I very much agree with this. There is mistrust in the African American community towards the health system because of varying reports from History about how they've treated us. Granted, I trust the vaccine myself, but I can very much understand the concerns of the other side. Especially since if this vaccine doesn't work in someone's body, you can't sue the vaccine makers. My mom was "operated" in her ear by a student after the doctor insisted the student did it. It was malpractice and she is now deaf in one ear and has been so for the past 20 odd years. She does not trust our health system after that. They denied her complaints even. I fully understand the argument that people don't trust the system. I am vaccinated but, but my mom isn't. I get it. We take extra good care of her these days.
Scientist here: Whenever you run a scientific study and publish the results, its standard procedure to always give your results in terms of their certainty (e.g. there is an X probability of this result being true and not a random anomaly in the data), rather than simply stating them to be 100% true, because in the real world no experiment is ever perfect. Additionally, we always spend a lot of time when writing papers to describe all the potential limitations of the study and the ways in which it can be improved, as well as how the findings could be better tested in future experiments. Unfortunately, most reporters are usually only after a scoop, and get a kick out of speaking down to people from a position of perceived authority. Because of this, reporters (and politicians) almost never discuss scientific studies with all the nuances the scientists included, and instead just boil them down to the simplest snippet which they managed to understand. Anybody who claims that there is universal certainty among scientists about anything clearly doesn't understand much about science. Its totally fine to make decisions based on imperfect data if the situations demands it, but its dumb to pretend that there is no way you could be wrong, or that any other conclusion is automatically wrong. PS: I should add that having had a look at a lot of the research I do believe that the covid vaccines are effective in reducing the severity of a covid infection, and as a result I've chosen to take both doses of the vaccine. However, I'm not going to look down my nose at people who are hesitant to do so be cause they dont trust the government, especially in countries with a relatively recent history of the government doing terrible things. If you want more people to get vaccinated, you should try to educate and incentivize instead of trying bully or threaten people into it.

I still remember my grandma telling us about the time her doctor had offered to sterilize my aunt because she was born with severe MR and they were afraid she'd reproduce. For context: illegal sterilizations of women with MH issues or in prison continued to happen all the way up until 2012. People don't understand that doctors can also be biased. Their oath doesn't actually mean they have your best interest in mind.
family member had new *experimental* IUD placed without her consent - she thought she was getting standard. This is in the 2010's. She had 2 children young and wanted to wait a while to have her last. Now, NO doctor will remove it ... there's a big lawsuit and she's basically sterilized against her will. guess what ... the demographic targeted - low income, minorities. it's not a conspiracy theory.. it's a conspiracy fact.
Look up the supreme court decision of Buck v Bell from 1927 if you haven't already, sterilization and oppression of women who are deemed a "hazard" to the public has a long history in this country.

Disclaimer: I got my vaccine. 5 colleagues of mine (Black, Vietnamese, Middle Eastern and two indigenous) have come to me separately to talk about their fears and mistrust of the government. I support them totally and told them I’d back their resistance to our workplace mandating vaccinations. Actually had a job for 5 years explaining the horrors and why there is laws here trying to protect us. The government was sterilising woman in our communities until the 1970s. Twitch a gaming stream site started an initiative to bring more women streamers by providing them $2000 and help in starting channels. The men are given no help because lots of top creators are all male. A regular guy cannot afford a good camera or computer but he gets no assistance. They should have made a program for new streamers and not some specific target. So RU-vid wants to promote more minority content like black or LGBT people that say nice things by providing assistance to them. If they talk about coming out of the closet then the videos are demonitized and no views.

Many channels (as well as perspectives) pertaining to "black" culture (especially when speaking on medical, political or socioeconomical views or experiences) get demonitised or even just straight up deleted. This has been prominent in apps and sites just like this one or tik tok. This is the reason why Aba and Preach created a statement aroumd it. I remain hesitant about the "vaccines" because I actually read the documents of what they are, I read up on virology and gene therapy (they use gene therapy technology), I read the CDCs data on the "kill rate" (super low btw), I read the FDA's approval, I read the abstracts for the clinical trials, and I already understand quite a bit more of biology than most non-doctors people. The "vaccines" aren an issue in and of themselves. The issue is what what they actually are, and how they actually work, is different from what a non-practicing political spokesperson is saying, and not what government funded health professionals are saying. The problem is that regardless of if it was... the media and narrative is decidedly fear-based, which is never a good-faith tactic. The problem is that even if it's 200% effective, the "machine" is chomping at the bit, to create a second class of citizenship. They are decimating the middle class, psychologically damaging child and adolescent psychosocial development, and socially engineering everyone else into a pro-fascist slavemind state of being. It doesn’t even have to do with “racism”. There is also a huge mistrust of the medical community in general. I got misdiagnosed multiple times by Orthopedic Surgeons who told me it was “all in my head” and I didn’t have a back injury because I was too young. 2 years later of working in massive pain a coworker, a physician assistant made me get an MRI and I found out that I had multiple disk herniations and I needed surgery. I found out that the doctors were ordering XRays and they know X-rays aren’t going to show tissue damage, instead of an MRI.
It has quite a bit to do with racism. America has a history of experimenting on slaves and sterilizing Black women. We can acknowledge the mistrust of the medical community AND the history of medical racism/experimentation on Black bodies. It doesn't take away from your experience.
While there is a wide spread mistrust of the government and medical community, they were addressing specifically why the racial component is a big factor for black people and minorities on why that mistrust exist. If a black person grows up hearing we where experimented on and how the government made racial segregation legal that "racism" component plays a part in that black person's decisions on how they approach something like the vaccine.

Yeah this reminds me of when my grandmother had cancer, and the doctors had originally said that she just had an infection on her sores. She was in a care facility and one of the caretakers went to turn her over and her arm broke. That's when they finally found out she had stage 4 cancer.

I've literally almost died due to mistreatment in the health system as a child. And let's not forget last year during the pandemic the whole "Let's do tests in Africa" thing. There's always going to be that mistrust due to the constant issues we face in these government systems. I'm not anti-vaxx and no I don't think they gonna turn us into robots but there is a reason for us to be skeptical about it. Especially as minorities.

To be fair, I was never going to take it. I know how long it takes for anything to be FDA approved. ANY cutting of those procedures automatically indicated I was not going to allow that into my body. Now, the more the media pushes it, I'll NEVER take it. Not even 10 years from now when there's actual data to go by. Never.

That’s what it is for me. On top of that I had bad reactions in the past so I am always hesitant when something new comes out. I don’t want to get COVID but I also fear the vaccine. So it’s an all around worry for me. But nobody will give you a chance to explain why or why not before judging you and calling you an idiot. I have been observing researching this situation from last year and when they announced the vaccines ..I knew something would not be right. I live in Canada and moved to the Caribbean in 2021. People are making choice to take a drug with little idea of the harm it will cause. The number of people injured by the vaccines is growing. Also they are leaky vaccines and cause variants in the Vaccinated which has been proven but NOT shown in main stream media.
I did my own research. I talked to my primary care physician (who's black and has been my PCP for over a decade btw) I listened to the views of scientist and doctors, and ultimately made the decision to get the vaccine. I also practice social distancing, wear a mask when I leave the house, and wash my hands regularly. These are decisions I made for myself. What the next man decides to do is not my business. Do you.
I work in healthcare so I had to get the vaccine as well. I still follow protocol when I get home because I have two kids and I want to keep them safe!!!

I was on the verge of getting the jab, but thought I should at least understand this whole mRNA thing a little before getting it. The explanation video I looked up portrayed it in a very positive light...which confused me, because what he was saying, was doing nothing but setting off alarms. And many of the comments were so positive and thankful to the creators for alleviating some of their fears--while I was like "...did you people not hear him correctly?".
People can lose their jobs for not taking it - what the fuck is that all about? What's the worst thing that can happen? I get ill for a week? It's illegal - ILLEGAL - to fire a woman or not hire them because they have a risk of getting pregnant. Women still die during labour, women are gone for several months from their jobs. It's ILLEGAL to discriminate people over their potential of not being at the job for some time. However, people are like "nah, you not taking the vaccination is perfect reason". If I ever get fired for not taking the vaccination, I'm going to sue the living shit out of the company.

Aba&Preach were one of the very few to show the video of the parliament members looking like 12 year olds confused by a verbal test question in front of that female reporter grilling them completely, and showcasing that the authoritarian measures they argued for had no precedent as not a single person had a concise answer for why they should be in place as opposed to less draconian measures. It turned out they were setting up power creep precedents for the future that were unnecessary and not helpful to the COVID situation, while using COVID as an excuse. Using a bad situation to smuggle totalitarianism through law. Internally, this is why I'm more centrist than picking one side or the other. I don't feel comfortable being in a box because of my political views. It makes me feel better to hear the whole story from multiple source, even if they were to anger me in someway.
This. I always try to get both sides from the story because I always figured that the truth lies somewhere in between the two extremes. It's not just black and white, but also a gray area where I usually stand on most political issues. That being said, whilst having political discussions with other people, they will inevitably put you in boxes if you haven't done yourself already. Something like "This guy's a [insert right-wing party here] supporter" or "the guy must be a fan of Trump" I have heard already, unfortunately.
A better way is to question everything and come to your own conclusions. Sitting in the middle is going to leave you with unanswered questions and in a different box.

I've never really thought about the vaccine like that. My mom is a nurse so she is pretty in on the vaccine and promotes it all the time, so I kind of went with that. But, it does make sense for poc to mistrust health experts. It's something that I've noticed. They've said that the vaccine is full proof, but then said that we need to get a booster. Which seems odd because they've never owned up to the fact that they were wrong, about the vaccine in the first place, now I didn't go around labeling people that didn't trust the vaccine as idiots or anything like that. But, I never really understood why and thought they might've just been ignorant.(Basically the karens and the extremes) But, now I understand that there is more to it than just ignorance. I trust you guys because you both seem like honest and genuine people, so thank you for sharing this perspective. I'm not the type of person to just attack someone with malicious intent, and I keep a pretty open mind and try my best to take accountability for anything I do. From now on, I want to try and keep a more open mind towards this because I don't really trust the government either(I'm Mexican so you could imagine the type of trust I have for the government).

I worked with a friend, Colin, who's black and he told me all about how him and his mother were treated at the hospital and how little they cared about their mistake during surgery that caused her death. Last I hear he was still trying to set up a case, that was at some temp place I worked a few years ago. Happens to us all. We got to sit in a hospital while my father's cancer doctor had a screaming match with the insurance company because they didnt want to cover a treatment they didnt think was necessary that his doctor was saying was necessary. It's not POCs that our healthcare doesn't care about, it's simply just poor people. If you're white and poor, you get the same shit treatment.
There are a lot of medical errors that lead to death. It’s actually a leading cause of death in the USA. It happens to all races, economic statuses, etc. There are a lot of people from all races that have real reasons why they are not trustful of medical providers.

Even if you aren’t black, I’ve found the conversation around COVID in general has been vitriolic. Instead of calling people murderers for not taking the vaccine, everyone should listen and hear people’s worry.
Covid has given the masses the ultimate high in power. You are praised for being a bully. Praised for shunning and finger waging. Its fucking disgusting. You can't preach my body my choice then lead the shaming of those who are hesitant to put something in their own bodies.
I've listened to people who are hesitant and it's just a bunch of feelings based bullhocky they read on Facebook. None of them know the actual science and levels of safety of the vaccine and this is why we're so frustrated with them. They don't take it seriously until it personally affects them
I don’t think anyone should be calling someone a murderer for not taking the vaccine. But I think there are also deeper conversations that should be had about the vaccine in general and I think we should take who doesn’t want to get the vaccine as an individual thing. You have concerns? That’s understandable. But at least in my experience there are a lot of people spewing reasons that have already been debunked or they’re getting bad information from someone random online. You also have people that won’t take the vaccine nor do they want to take any other necessary precautions to keep themself and others around them safe. I think the frustration surrounding this topic goes a lot deeper than someone not wanting it for a lot of people and then there are those that go overboard.

Let’s get one thing straight. The idea vaccine passports is nowhere in the ballpark of what a dim-pass was where it was based on race and segregation. We already have a form of a vaccine restriction all across the world in different countries were they have banned travel to other countries that have a high on vaccination count. What next are you going to try to say that being forced wear a cloth mask in a building is on the same level as the slave muzzles that slaveholders used during slavery that were crude iron cages wrapped around the entire head of a persons head causing them to potentially die of heat stroke during summertime and preventing a person to even eat other then dirt.
Vaccine passport is a good idea , you get stamped on your passport either way if you get your required shots to enter certain countries since some countries have certain vaccination rules for certain illnesses

The incident with the polio vaccine, the Tuskegee experiments and frankly the lack of studies done on effects from the vaccine that don't occur until later all make me extremely hesitant
@@Murrummba my sister in law works in a hospital in Ontario and she’s a part of the team for recording adverse reactions from vaccine patients. The definition of a vaccinated person and unvaccinated person becomes a lot more complicated when it comes to this. They consider someone who is fully vaccinated as someone who has had both shots and has had them for more than 14 days. So let’s say you come in before that from complications, they either don’t mark you down as having anything regarding the vaccine but as a unvaccinated person having a COVID reaction if you test positive even if your asymptomatic. As well as her superiors encouraging them not to ask patients who come in with issues if they’re vaccinated so if the patient doesn’t make the connection, they are meant to treat it as nothing related lol

I should be able to say “no” to having something injected in my body and take full responsibility for the consequences of my decision without having a random person with zero medical knowledge telling me I’m innately bad and stupid for not wanting the vaccine. What happened to us having autonomy over our bodies?

Only thing that I’m predicting if Philip does decide to actually apologize is that he will only do it to be a proper “ally” to minorities when this isn’t just a minority issue of distrust. @M P the thing is that the vaccines are not going to solve anything. Vaccinated people are still getting covid and some are even dying regardless. And this is the first time that the government has been pushing ,to the point of authoritarianism, an experimental vaccine that has not been approved by the FDA. They’re even pushing vaccine passports and vaccine certificate proof for entry to public spaces. I highly doubt Reagan would be in favor of all of this.
@M P Covid has a 99% survival rate. Majority of those with covid who survived, which are 99%, did not have the vaccine. It is very comparable to the flu and yet we don’t see people and the world going on full on pandemic mode because of the flu. Almost everyone could get covid and be fine. Why should I get the vaccine? A vaccine that is unapproved (thank you for conveniently ignoring that), extremely new, and with all kinds of potential negative side effects that the media and leftists don’t like to talk about. The incentive to get the vaccine is just not very high for most people.
@M P Expedited vetting process means it wasn’t approved. It hasn’t gone through the years of research and trials for it to be approved. It’s experimental. The people getting it now are the experiment. It’s an experiment because we don’t have any long term history and research of the actual effectiveness and side effects. They are now pushing for a third booster... when will this end? How much evidence to you and others need that this vaccine is experimental? Reagan hated government regulation precisely because he knew organizations are not to be trusted always. He wouldn’t be on board with the government pushing vaccine passports and vaccine certifications. Thanks for ignoring that too. You honestly think Reagan would support the government pushing the vaccine on people so much? You think he would support companies and workplaces trying to force their employees and clients to take the vaccine? No! That’s exactly the authoritarian regulation that he was so against 🤦♀️
