Very nice little video. I own an X-Pro2, X-T2, X-T3, X-T4, X-T5, X-H2 and two Zfs. I get the best images, and far more easily, from the Zfs than any of my Fuji cameras. The Nikon has now become pretty much my go-to camera for street photography here in London every weekend, usually with the 28mm f2.8 SE, and I am loving it.

The ZF appears a bit divisive. The ergos I think are at the center of a lot of that (mostly as a proxy for the form over function-ness of the camera). While it's true it isnt the best choice for a working pro to shoot with all day, it checks a lot of boxes IMO. Small, inconspicuous, full frame, image stabilization and excellent high ISO performance, honestly pretty good AF (maybe not the best but it sure beats a lot of stuff you can buy). I also would like to see Nikon make some more small lenses. That said the 1.8 lenses are fine IMO. Though my point of comparison is an F3 with Zeiss lenses. The 50 or 100 makro-planar, any faster distagon, etc. on that body is way worse handling wise but the image quality always justified it. The 1.8 S lenses are lighter and frankly much better. You can also couple one 1.8 with one of the two SE lenses to cut down on overall kit size, e.g. the 28mm se with the 50S, or the 85S with the 40 se. It's also possible Nikon just wants other companies to fill in with non-overlapping lenses, i.e. if youre going to get a lens with too many compromises image quality wise to get the size, let someone else put their name on it. I dont agree with that strategy but it would make some sense to me. At any rate with the ZF's layout I find switching between it and the F3 really easy. I dont miss the aperture ring on the lenses, personally, though if Nikon were to decide to make a lens or two with a nice one... well you know.

Interesting thought about Nikon's lens strategy. I just want a decent 35mm f2 that has AF and doesn't stick out too much from the camera. It's not just about aesthetics and handling but also how the camera looks to those who are being photographed. A small lens is better for street photography as well. But you get the point.

@@PetrGardianTV I sure do! And not only people you might photograph, but I dont want to be hassled by museum security, the transit police, someone who's been reading too many nextdoor/facebook posts, etc. Small camera + small lens has huge advantages and the Zf can do that on Monday and shoot birds on Tuesday.

I’m with you on hoping the Sigma lenses will come over to our Z mount cameras. A sigma rep told me the Megadap adapter (for Sony mount) seems to work pretty well. We could then use all Sony mount lenses.

Something to note: The dials are not deactivated when you are in P and A mode and Auto ISO. They can be used to select your preference. If you are in Auto ISO but keep the dial to 12800, it will try to use 12800 even if it is not necessary.

Do people use the dedicated shutter and ISO dials on the Zf or just get it for the look and end up just use the front for shutter and rear dials for ISO more often which means even just want to shoot with small lenses, the Z6III will make more sense with the better grip and even better EVF plus these dials provide similar tactile experience with addition of a lens with aperture ring, hence don't need to get Zf but Sony A7R V which has a prism shape VF and flat top design which looks just like a Zf but modern look with bigger grip if one care about aesthetic too? Also what camera and lenses you carry or you just use phone while travel and everyday hangout and situations? I shoot for fun, art, contest and gig if possible tho I haven't done yet, my plan is to get that lens with Zf ith the 28-400mm and a Sony Xperia 1 VI phone (26,24,48,85-170, 2X macro) to be always with me waterproof and macro camera, but is that lens is too big and heavy on Zf as the only lens for everyday and travel usages? Down the line I might get the 14-30 and Voigtländer 50mm F1 if I want to maximize the use of that camera for wider and rare times of bokeh shots but that manual and aesthetic of the lens is tempting! And I love Yellow colour, hope Nikon will make a Yellow colour Zf like they did with the new colour entries on the Zf! 💛
@PetrGardianTV
@PetrGardianTV Месяц назад
Z6III would make more sense for a big lens like the 28-400. And as for the dials - you can use them easily override your standard settings but I don't use the dials much in day-to-day situations. I have cameras in different sizes - if I want better IQ than a phone but need it to be small I take Ricoh GR. If I don't mind to carry the camera on a strap then it almost doesn't matter how big it is. Unless I need to use a long zoom and then it's a different story. Yellow Zf would be awesome! :)

My Blue Zf is taking a little while to get here. Hahahhaha! I am being impatient, since I only bought it on Thursday this week. I will be using it in manual mode (mostly), because I bought the Zeiss Classic 50mm Planar, with the FTZ adapter ii to go with it. I am banking on the Zf being of good build quality, reassuring feel, and robustness so I can take it everywhere. I do have a grip, but I'll try using the special strap I got, just to see how well that will work. In terms of being a "Swiss-army knife," well I am not sure about that, but I will take it everywhere and shoot everything, including video. Those cheap-feeling "special edition" lenses - UGH. I will continue with my classic Zeiss journey. Next, I'll get the 28mm f/2, then the 85mm f1. 4. Later, the 18mm F3. 5, all in a Nikon F-mount. I am a manual person, so these will suit me just fine. They are small (relatively), well-built (like the Zf), retain the retro aesthetic, will last for a generation, and should fit the camera nicely. Thank you for the introductory review.

@@PetrGardianTV Thank you again Petr! It is here, I took delivery yesterday mid-afternoon. and man-o-man is it ever beautiful. The Blue Nikon Zf does look really beautiful when coupled with these classic Zeiss lenses. I have even bought a copper soft-touch release button, as well as a Rose Anvil strap. Altogether. I am quite pleased with how they look, combined. The trend of large lenses does "erk" some people, but I guess choice means not everyone will have the same tastes. And as @bopiyeff said, the Voigtlander lenses are available, which will make the whole package smaller. @bopiyeff, since researching lenses for this camera, I also looked at the Voigtlander Nikon F-mount SL-ii S lenses. I think there are 4 in the range. They would also work on my Nikon Nikomat. What do you think about these?

I agree the Fuji is designed better with a joystick and press-in command dials. However, the ZF has a better build and way better image quality. I say this as an owner of both the ZF & Fuji XT5.
