It is my belief, and, I hope yours too, that intentionality is one of, if not the most important things in our lives. Caring about stuff.
To be honest, that is the mantra that led me to create this channel and make these videos. But I found that, when I really look into it, there’s not many people who really do think everything is that deep?Sure, many of the artists I’ve covered are at least personal and there’s a lot of value in that but really, how much are they thinking about their surroundings?
This video won’t focus on influence, or record sales, or anything of the surface… we’re gonna talk about something I think most people are scared to think about. What I believe a rapper should be in their heart of hearts. And that’s someone who says what truly… is.
Hip-hop has turned into a show of glamor, a genitals swinging contest, a race to see who can rattle off the most materialistic lines in 3 minutes, but there are just a few… who know what you and I think when we go to sleep at night. And what we’re reflecting on when we walk home from work or school, or the thoughts we’re trying to distract ourselves with every single day.
If you don’t know who billy woods is, this video will just scratch the very surface… and stick around, because you might just come face to face with an artist who will change your life. With a person who can speak into your deepest fears, your biggest concerns, in a way that’s relatable. Into a way that, lets you know you aren’t alone and what you’re seeing, is reality. And he might just help you escape it too.
What do you think of this video? Let's talk about it in the comments!
Thanks so much for watching. Every subscriber/viewer means a lot to me, and I appreciate every like and comment. Let me know what you think about the video or the album and I'd love to have a discussion in the comments! Music is meant to be discussed to assimilate ideas and to grow as people.
Subscribe! / mybeautifullongwindeda...
I am a Christian and student and I made this channel when I was in high school. I started this channel because I love talking about music (specifically hip hop) and given that the genre seems to be going downhill, I want to be part of the community that preserves the expectation of great music and dissecting what makes a beautiful record. Dealing with a lack of friends to discuss these matters with, I hoped to start my own community that loves music just as I do, as well as to provide a unique perspective as a follower of Christ that also appreciates this community. I appreciate everyone who watches and I am truly happy to see anybody comment their thoughts on a project I talk about.
Put "JUST WHEN YOU THINK YOU CAN'T, YOU'LL DEAL" as your comment if you read the description!
As always, thank you very much for watching and taking time out of your day to discuss music with me, God bless. Isaiah 55:8-12

I just got into Woods a few days ago. Hiding Places was my entry point and I haven’t really left it yet, to understand more of the album. So thanks for putting me onto other songs. I’m pretty stoked to go down this rabbit hole with Woods, and Armand Hammer. Last time I did this was a decade ago with Aesop Rock, and he’s now one of my favorites of all time. Hiding Places is quickly becoming one of my favorite albums ever.

Bro this is a masterpiece and given what you said at the start I think you gotta know that with RU-vid its better to reach a niche audience of devoted fans than millions who don't care, this video is what has introduced me to this man's amazing music and I will probably be listening to him for most of this year, even subscribed on top of it all because of how much I loved hearing your passion on this topic. Success trickles up, what's niche today becomes mainstream tomorrow, grow your niche audience of devotees and eventually people will start to notice and want to join the club.

Amazing video. I've watched it multiple times already. I really appreciate Woods's music. Personally, it has helped me get through some really tough times in my life recently... the topics he covers, Isolation and Childhood on Hiding places, Travel and the concept of Home and other stuff on maps. I haven't really dived super deep into We Buy Diabetic Test Strips yet but have been listening to it a good bit recently. your video hits on all the points of what I love about woods. The part where he talked about confronting the darkness in human life resonating with people really spelled out why I love woods so much because I haven't seen that clip before. anyways I really appreciate the hard work you put into making this video. It was very engaging and well made. Looking forward to seeing other stuff you make!!!

truly incredible how you articulated some of the reasons why a character as enigmatic as woods can still resonate so much with me. it’s all about his sincerity and simply phenomenal writing. he and earl have really reframed how i will probably look at rap and hip hop forever because rappers like them who pour themselves into the music for or worse with their unique writing styles will keep me fascinated for the rest of my life because they truly let you in on how their mind works and how they look at life/society. those make the moments where they get personal and vulnerable even more impactful.

That’s quite a great discovery! The video is so well made, i loved everything about it and went straight listening to wood’s songs after that. It’s so deep, it’s amazing how some people can see so vividly, this world. I was totally amazed about your “analysis” on it if i could say. Amazing work keep it up !

@@magicalotterlion i would say, damso who got quite a dark vibe, he used to do a lot of trap rap then went to something much more meaningful and started to be versatile. He got a unique way of thinking as well ! Nekfeu is my second fav, in his songs he talk mostly about his men’s desire that pisses him off and he talk about his friends and where he grew as well as the bad side of his life. Luidji is just art you have to listen to get it “Bahia” , “reste en vie” , “gisele” are song that you should listen. Alpha Wann, josman are also good. You can try la feve but it has less meaning, it’s more about flow !

10:25 This point of the video where Jackson talks about listening to certian music to "Drown out the world, or validate our emotions, or just not feel alone in your ideas", this is the truest thing I have ever heard about when listening to music. For me, the album that does all three is Deathconsiousness by Have A Nice Life, which I've always seen as a perfect allegory for my depression. That album speaks to me on a deeper level than all other music I love and it's very interesting hearing Jackson talk about music in that same way with his love of Billy Woods' work. The way he speaks about Woods' lyricism is something that I have also loves in his work, but Jackson says this better than I think anyone else in the world cood. This is an extremely underrated channel on RU-vid and I cannot wait for more videos like this that I can connect to someone else in the world about how much music can mean.

I'm a woods fan, have been for years.. But this is such a good introduction to one of my absolute favorite artists period. Woods, and Elucid have legit saved my life, they help me contend with my daily insanity in the face of such an absurdly horrible world. I can't say Woods and Elucid cured my depression, or made me feel better, or calmed my hatred, but they have given my depression purpose, made me feel like I wasn't alone, and helped me make sure my hatred is always pointed in the right direction, and for that, I'm ever thankful to them. It's been a while since I listened to a lot of their older stuff, a lot of new horrible shit has happened to me since then, and some of the lines you highlighted from past projects even took on a whole new meaning for me, so you made me think that it's time I revisit everything from start to finish again.. Another beautiful thing about Woods, everything he has made is so utterly timeless, you find new things, new truths, new perspectives, even in lines you replayed a hundred times.. Thanks man, I appreciate it.

For anyone watching this confused or you just haven’t listened to a lot of rap music. This video might not make sense at face value. The ‘greatest of all time’ debate is stupid but if anyone were to fit that title it probably would be billy woods. Intertextuality is important with woods. he doesn’t hold the listeners hand either. Bars are gonna by flying over ur head loads. he utilises the ‘in medias res’ writing technique like no one else . lyrics come across intense and straight to the point. No he probably won’t get the recognition he deserves. im obviously hoping he does but anything too experimental nowadays ain’t getting pushed.
@madeINaBATHtub
@madeINaBATHtub Месяц назад
He just jumps into a scene with no setup? I thinks that’s pretty much what in media res is, right? I think Aesop Rock is another MC that can punch you in the gut in certain tracks. I love Billy Woods but Aes is my personal hero. Another artist who has a very bleak worldview. But I like how he also tries to fight the despair with humor and noticing how wild some mundane things can be. Billy woods can be…heavy. He’s a genius but my soul can only endure so much because it really does connect so much and I got certain nerves I just don’t want bein tickled too often. 😂 The song Gopher Guts by Aes has made many a man shed a tear if you need an example. But it’s not staring into the void the way Woods does, it’s a different cold chill.

i really felt a lot of the things you said. i had really dark thoughts about myself and life since middle school: i was usless, a problem. I thought that i will never be loved, neither by myself. last year i went back to this dark place after a bad breakup and a professional disappointing that left a new trauma in me in many ways. but now i'm starting seeing brightness again. i'm starting to love myself and to take care of what for me is important. it doesn't mean i'm just out of it and everything is over, i'm not some wise man on a mountain. like you said is hard, and pain, anger and struggle will be there lots of times. but i know some more things now, and i'm finally thinking about the present and building my future even using the pain as a sort of "starting point". i recognise my value, my dignity as a human being. i can be loved and i want to love, even it's hard and painful at times. i know what i'm writing seems completley out of focus on the video's theme, but i wanted to share it with you cause...i feel it. btw, thank you for this video, i really love your contents and i'm really curious to listen to Billy Woods music. for this i thank you from the bottom of my heart. you are a really butifiul human. i see it in your passion and dadication to create this contents. love, man. take care. it's hard, but is beautiful

I want to say that when I saw woods in concert, I asked him to play red dust and he said he can’t because it’s about an actual person and it would be too emotional. Or something along those lines. I think that last verse is woods wanting to really get rid of someone or someone really wanting to get rid of him.

Red dust is actually about a very specific situation where a partner of his was sexually assaulted. The song describes his hatred for the perpetrator and it is very explicit once you know what he is saying. I can't recall in which interview he talked about this but I remember it was written, not in video format

All I have to say is, after watching just a few of your videos, I can say I've found one of the best if not THE best RU-vid channel in my opinion. Thank you for inspiring a newfound hope in creative, and intellectually sound content.

I was expecting either Billy Woods or MC Ride, was hoping it was MC Ride, lately been reading and paying attention to his lyrics and damn are they both extremely difficult to understand at times, but so damn rewarding to understand. But Billy Woods is a great second for me

Aethiopes is prob too 3 abstract/experimental rap albums of all time based off sound ALONE let alone lyricism. Also “she drank rose out the skull but held it gentle as my living head” gave me fucking chills. Been meaning to analyze a lot of this guys lyrics but it’s hard to find time to both just enjoy and appreciate the music and analyze the lyrics because that’s not something I do at the same time cuz that would kind of defeat the purpose of music in the first place
