So Tru, like damn, i hate tht new fad... it’s already older than old to me... I think I’ve only see 3 cars tht were able to pull off the black rims... it’s so just bland and tasteless...
I’ve driven the DSG and the manual, I don’t know how people choose the manual, I fell in love with the sound of how quick it shifts and those DSG farts. Felt like driving a super car.
I wish I had both. I went with the DSG for practicality of daily driving in traffic. I've always had a manual and was worried about not feeling engaged. I drove both and you really can't go wrong either way.
I have driven a 2017 Golf R before. Even though I haven't driven a wider selection of cars yet, this was the best car I have driven. Responsive steering, not too firm, but also not too loose, responsive I-4, and overall racecar-like vibe. Great car!
They handle mods so well! I reviewed an APR stage one Golf R and it was amazing. No trouble handling all that power routes through the front wheels with that AWD Haldex system. I was blown away. When I was selling Audis, I lost a few deals on the S3 to the Golf R and now I see why...
Its funny, in USA the majority of cars use an autimatic transmission, and people over there are really obsessed with manual transmissions. In Europe, the majority of cars use the manual transmission, and we're really crazy about the automatic transmission.
TheHupe I traveled to Europe last September and can totally understand why you guys would prefer automatic with how much you guys have to use the clutch in the major cities. Between the short narrow roads and traffic, you guys must eat through clutches.
My Stage 1 tuned Mk7.5 Golf R hits 60 in 3.7s, that's just a remap (putting out 380bhp) and handling improvement. Next job will be downpipe, intake and exhaust (going for a resonated sports exhaust, good amount of breathing but keep the noise down). Exactly as you said, I'm keeping the exterior stock. It is about 15mm lower with the new springs, but that's only noticeable if you know to look for it. I've already embarrassed some very expensive cars... it's great fun. Good review dude. The APR guys really know what they're doing...
at 2:42 the comment about the rubbery shift feel - easily rectified with the Integrated Engineering IE Solid Cable Shifter Bracket & Bushing Kit For VW MK7 Golf. The stock bracket is made of plastic and has rubber bushing. The IE version uses a stamped steel bracket with fully machined aluminum bushings. This tightens up the shift feel considerably and ensures more accurate shifting (no more shift slop!). Considering it's $99 + installation that is an easy & cheap fix.[edit - plus I just prefer shifting my own gears but that DSG is wicked fast]
That is a killer short shift kit which would work beautifully in conjunction with the IE bracket n bushings. All around tightening up the shift feel and precision.
7:47 that looks so similar to road 395 here in Jerusalem. I'd love to drive the R on the 395, this car is epic and the tune isn't that expensive considering what you're getting!
For someone who states "I'm an engineer"; it's a simple matter to replace the MTX shifter bushings with polyurethane to improve shift linkage feel - funny an "engineer" doesn't know about that..............$20 upgrade.
Aftermarket wheel offsets usually fill out the fender arches a bit better. Just looks more masculine in stance. If you ran a stage 3, you NEED exhaust or you won't have the power. Turbo isn't efficient without the larger system.
The VW Golf has always been my favorite car since it was my first car. I modified a GTI VR6 with a supercharger, body kit, suspension, exhaust. It was a lot of fun hitting corners at high speeds. The problem I had though, and I suspect is true with this APR Stage 3, is the lack of DOWNFORCE. Once I started exceeding 130 MPH I could feel the rear start to float lol...
So enjoyed your review! Have a 2015 R, and has been the most fun car I've ever owned, puts a smile on your face every time you drive it! (like they should).
They have come a long way since the first uprated variant, the 83 Rabbit (Gulf) GTI. then the 92 Gulf 16 valve 2 liter.. Wow.. it just keeps getting better!
My first car was a 79 Rabbit, 4 speed manual, bright yellow turd. I loved it! Had an 82, and an old convertible beetle, now a MK7 GTi. They've come a long way.
Don't know if you've heard about it: HGP Golf 3.6 bi-turbo. A Golf 6/7 R with the 3.6L engine from the Passat R36 totally hand rebuilt + a large bi-turbo. Since the engine is rebuilt by hand whp figures wary though it's around the 700whp mark (+-50) & 682 ftlb of torque. In a test of a German auto magazine called "Turbo" that Golf beat a Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera (dry conditions) & placed itself even to an Aventador (wet conditions)
On the race fuel and meth it'll do 0-60 in less than 3 seconds. However the haldex (Borg Warner as it's now called) the front wheels spin like crazy for a few seconds. Also that R doesn't have DCC as there is no comfort mode.
You said a few videos ago you wanted to be able to do top gear like content. As far as car reviews, you've got their. Videos recently seem very professional!
0-60: 3.5 seconds. That's the guess I'm going with as well because that is right up there with the Italian Supercuts. It definitely has the performance of them.
My Golf Plus1,4L enigne (85 ci ); 55kW (75ps) torque 128Nm 96ft-lbs/ weight 1340kg (2900 lbs) 0-50km/h 3,1 0-100km/h 11,2sec Vmax 155km/h (96mph) fuel economy in road 5,8 L/100km in City 7,6L/100km ( 45MPG / 31MPG). 2005 year model and used price was in 2013 6700 Eur (8500USD) . Now 2018 market price here 3100 eur ( 4000 USD). Fuel price now E 98 petrol 1,45Eur/L ( 7,00 USD/gallon ). Estonia (EU).
Jope tru but the ZF transmission is hard to get used to and not user friendly like the DSG. Nonetheless BMW ZF is good too but the manual transmission is the true Bimmer we all know
Why it's not user friendly? I prefer torque converter automatic, it's a lot smoother in slow speed gear changes than DSG and a lot more reliable. In daily drive, wouldn't choose any else than ZF.
Unregulated Market Economy stage 1 is the most basic level of tuning for an engine and it's typically just ECU software. Stage 3 produces the most power and often comes with mechanical upgrades like a turbo and exhaust
The perfect sleeper car. It will never be a cop magnet. 0-60 in 3.3 seconds if it was just you. -- I ended up getting the GTI as i needed a daily driver great on fuel. 320hp and 35 mpg is pretty sweet. Only Mod is Stage 1 Tune for $750.
Unfortunately not true. As much as I would love for that to be the case. But definitely with even stage 1 tune on DSG... OR Manual with APR Short Shift, Race clutch and BFI weighted shift knob. Honestly, at that point 6MT and DSG are equal... Almost
He's saying the only performance upgrade are intake, catch can ans exhaust 😂 what about a downpipe, big turbo (probably like a gtx30 or something), forged internals.. bruh
He doesn’t say it because it doesn’t have it.... look it up. Stock motor. A turbo they’ve created which a gtx30 is prob bigger than the one they’ve used. Aside from the turbo swap everything is basically bolt on. And what really adds to all of it’s performance is that DSG trans. Even stock turbo bolt on GTI’s that are FWD with the same motor I saw doing 11s at the track. There’s a guy running 10s or 9s with one now stock motor as well
www.goapr.com/products/stage3_ea888_mqb.html this is the turbo used (Stage 3). They rebuild the engine so it can properly function as daily driver. Also, yes those are pretty much the only upgrades performance wise
Ignorannt people who can't accept that there are other languages, dialects, and ways of speaking that is different than how they speak... Face palm yourselves.
I'm sure that right after this video the DSG will go in to "Power Sh*t mode" and go boom like Ford on a Swedish road. The "Power Sh*t mode" was so impressiv that the Swedish Police force stopped buying Volkswagens after some of thire cars got stuck in D or R. Too drive a Volkswagen with a DSG is like leting your car meet a tree face to face,or head on, not a good idea if you like your wallet.
Lmao clearly you don’t know absolute shit about the DSG gear box in the Golf R. Several owners have remained stock DSG gear box in a stage 2 Golf and after a year they’ve reported zero issues. Stage 3, it’s logical to install some clutch packs, and you’ll be fine. This DSG gear box is currently one of the best on the market.
If the DSG gear box brakes/ don't work in a f*cking Swedish Police car, maybe you should not buy it! Sounds like you are mad because you can't even drive a manual.
I hate to say this, but there is such a thing as too much horsepower, and we are talking about a hatchback. I can say one good thing about the Stage III Golf R the price is right. The amount of horsepower offered starting at 35 k is breathtaking, and makes me wonder what kind of MPG it pulls.
