There's a another episode in which this slot machine appears. The episode is 'It's a Nice Place to Visit', also from season 1 it was episode 28. and It aired in April of 1960. Larry Blyden stars as a robber is killed during a hold up and mistakenly thinks he's in Heaven. In the video he gets to enjoy all of his vices which includes gambling. During the episode he plays this same slot machine at least twice. His guide in heaven which actually turns out to be Hell, is Mr. Pip played by Sebastian Cabot of ''Family Affair' fame. It ends with the robber eventually gets bored with always winning and nothing ever going wrong and demands to be sent to the other place and Mr. Pip informs him that he's already there.

Back in the day, people were more inclined to reuse items instead of scrapping or selling things like we do today. It would be amazing to see how many shows and movies reused the same things, maybe a bit augmented for what it was needed for.

A careful examination of ALL "Twilight Zone" episodes will show that sets, props, and costumes were used many times in different episodes to save money (the show was often over budget anyway; Serling wanted maximum quality). Two cases in point: the underside and ramp of the flying saucer, and some space suits.

Great information. Before reruns, VHS, or streaming…. It was one and done. The Hollywood studio system used the same houses, sets, and props all of the time. It was a business that was most concerned about entertainment and the profit from giving the public what it wanted to see. My favorite reuse was on Dragnet. They not only used the props many times but the same group of actors would play different characters in the same season. Just add glasses, change the clothes, wear a wig , and change from a good guys to a bad guy. It’s great to watch the same actor go from a crook to a cop in just a few weeks. What a country of opportunity.

I hardly ever see this episode in syndication. I may have seen it once. I recognized the slot machine.

Fascinating! I would have just gone to Vegas for a day of location shooting. That would have given the episode authenticity that you wouldn't have found anywhere but in westerns back then. I think that would have been the easiest way out of it. Going to the police station was definitely the cheaper way out. But then again, I imagine they had to pay the on set police officer.

I've recently been watching the old Get Smart TV show and in one episode Siegfried and Starker are on an island that must be the Gilligan's Island set and they have to wade into the "lagoon". That water looks extremely disgusting. Dark green and very cloudy, appearing to have solids in the water 🤮! And I remembered the episode you covered the gross state of that water!

On the back, there is a “W” inside a couple of circles. LOOKS a lot like the “WESTINGHOUSE “ symbol.🤣

Those are Peace Dollars in the close up. My mother brought back 80 silver dollars from Vegas when I was young. My big brother would convert the kitchen cabinet into a slot machine. We’d take turns rolling them down a cardboard tube hoping for a jackpot. On our very last dollar he would yell JACKPOT and pour them on the floor.

Just this morning I saw an episode of "The Jack Benny Program," "Jack Goes to Vegas," which had several of this model slot machine, one of which Jack played. (I can see what looks like several of the same model in "The Fever" as well). Yeah, it's likely it's the same machine...maybe they had one that could be rigged to pay off and others that were just for show.

Sad it was so complicated to use a real slot machine. Nice video

Star Trek tos reused props all the time, like most TV shows and movies did back then. I loved Rod Serling's work, he, Alfred Hitchcock, and others were the best!!

Not "repo'd" (re-possessed) because the police didn't possess it before it was CONFISCATED for evidence. The interesting thing is that the police still had it between the first use and the second use. And I wonder how they got permission to tamper with evidence in order to force a jackpot. I don't think they'd want to wait around for it to happen naturally!!!!😂

I probably noticed but assumed it was a prop they had that they just reused not that they went thru so much trouble to get that for the prop

Buddy Epson did a great job in this one. At around the same time he also appeared on the Andy Griffith Show where he was a hobo that came to town on a train car and befriended Opie and became a bad influence on him. I didnt know they used the slot machine twice... I guess it worked well the first time, they used it again and I am sure the PD made some money with their required services... Nice job Rick...👍✌
