If you want to know about Bazelgeuse's actual ecology, here's the rundown! They carry a large colony of nitrate-producing microorganisms in the head and tail, meaning that they quite literally produce explosive compounds. The only requirement to maintain these nitrate microorganisms' production is providing a proper medium for them to grow in a.k.a. water. This means that, so long as Bazelgeuse has consistent access to water, its blasting scale production is effectively unlimited. Good thing too, as Bazelgeuse's main hunting/feeding strategy involves dropping bombs on prey and competition alike. It doesn't need strong jaws or talons like other wyverns since its blasting scales will blow up prey into smaller and more digestible chunks, and its strong shell and body are resistant to its own explosions, meaning it can do divebombs without risk of injury. In addition, it turns out that the Elder's Recess is the true home of Bazelgeuse, as the species originated there. The species was disturbed from their home after Zorah Magdaros's seismic activity in the Great Ravine opened up passage between the Elder's Recess and the rest of the New World. They spread out far and wide, as the peaks of the Elder's Recess are the highest in the New World and let them glide down to all the other locales. However, while they have strong gliding flight, their wings aren't as strong at generating lift, meaning they can end up trapped in these locales after gliding down to them, so they just decide to make new territories after being stranded. Seething Bazelgeuse are individuals who stayed in the Elder's Recess and, due to the abundant Bioenergy and high competition, ended up mutating. This Variant mutation allows them to maintain their heated state indefinitely due to having enough Bioenergy in their environment to power it and enough competition to necessitate better heating capabilities. As well, the composition of their blast fluid changes, becoming more powerful when Seething Bazelgeuse amp up their heating state beyond normal. The infamous "nuke" attack that they do is an intimidation display, meant to show off their strength to would-be competitors. I can't personally imagine many Monsters would dare continue to fight a Seething Bazelgeuse after such a display, should they avoid or survive it.

This Bazel documentary was one of my favorites that Cotton did back in the day, and it still is. He's made a massive impact all over the new world and I enjoy every second of the B-52. I have to admit, Josh's documentary on the Bazel is also hilariously good 😂😂😂

I think Josh's Bazel documentary was the first video I saw of the channel. Got lead down a funny documentary rabbit hole and just kept watching, waiting for more.

Not gonna lie, I use to hate Bazelgeuse immensely back in the days of me playing MHW, but he eventually turned out to be one of my favorite monsters of all time. He definitely deserves a spot in MH Wilds.

One way for you guys to make a Fish or Not A Fish Documentary would be to play the FathomVerse app made by the Monterey Bay Aquarium. Not only would you be teaching us about what is and isn’t a fish, you would also be able to use your vast knowledge on the subject to train an AI to help with marine life research.

I still remember when Bazelgeuse was still unknown, and his theme struck genuine fear into all who heard it's menacingly badass string and horn section. He was the Deviljho of Worlds.....until Deviljho decided to defend his throne. That hunt still haunts me....

We don’t know entirely how the perceive “pain” but it sends a negative signal to the brain when they are in danger. When eating, however, the positive signal from the food overrides the negative signal from the attack. The idea that mantids can’t focus on more than one thing at a time is ridiculous. Were it true, then they wouldn’t be able to hold onto and consume prey at the same time and would starve to death.

OMG I encountered the great 52-Bomber for the first time in my playthrough with MHW just the other day. In the Rotten Vale in the smallest room possible! Thank you for making these kinds of videos, it has been a blast watching them and listening to them in the background for stuff.

The documentary’s are still some of my favorite videos from the series, they add so much life into the game and I can’t wait to see what you do in wilds.

I know that Josh has gotten things wrong or sensationalized in the past (Yian-Garuga would agree), but I wouldn’t get upset at him for expressing his passion for this series as an animal lover. The ecology and greater lore of the Monster Hunter world and its respective fauna is a key element of the series that fascinates me to no end. I don’t consider myself an expert at all, and I tend to prefer the act of hunting more than learning every iota of the natural biology of them as animals, but that doesn’t mean it’s wrong to prefer that aspect of the series and drawing parallels to our own real world nature to see the elements the team draws inspiration from, like Balahara and his Oyster eyes. So even if it’s a lot more fantastical in Monster Hunter and at times it’s more speculative, especially concerning Elder Dragons, I can’t see the series without its tie to nature and our role in the realms of this series as its custodians. So I always enjoy when the community has videos to better get in tune with the series and how its art teams translate our favorite monsters into the cycle of life.

To be honest I was a little disappointed that you guys didn’t include the Bazel Christmas special in with these two videos. That would have capped it off.
