I've viewed countless videos of this bike and yet none of them gave a sense of what it's like to ride as much as your onboard footage did. Great stuff!
My insurance hates fairings. It’s especially apparant in used bikes because the premiums are still stupid on bikes that are 10+ years old. I guess their logic is something like: fairings = sportsbike = bad. I’ve recently been looking at a 2015 KTM Super Duke 1290. At almost 34 years of age I can insure that for about 75% of what I would have to pay for a Yamaha R6 of similar vintage. Even a VFR 800 is more expensive to insure than the KTM. Absolute madness.
I see the comments about the lack of a rear seat while having pillion pegs. Theres a key tumbler on the left side of the rear subframe that takes your ignition/tank key. A simple twist and it unlocks the rear cowl, and the RS when purchased comes with both the rear seat and cowl and you can swap between them in your garage with about two seconds of effort. A simple push at the front edge of the cowl or seat and it clicks back into the locked position.
For someone who usually rides bikes of a completely different nature, I have to say, well done for showing you're willing to expand your, 'riding horizons'. 👍
Always thought the Street Triple looked horrible until i saw one at the delaers and went for a test ride. Holy shit that bike is just glorious. And it looks far better in person and screams quality! Went from not interested to calculating finances in 5 minutes :D
Nice review but the only thing I would say is about the seat I’am 65 I have owned mine for 18 months and I find the seat very comfortable 400 mile days no problem I only really use my bike for long trips
Love the weight of the speed triple in the corners. I like a bike to feel substantial, and the Speed feels perfect for me, much better than the Street.
I'm 6ft and the bike fits me well, its my 2nd Street triple rs and with all the tech and perfect bhp for the road its a great buy, also appreciate the modern retros you show on this channel. Thanks
Im just over 6ft 2 and find mine really comfy. I've also got a cosmic yellow model and covered 2k miles last year and 2 track days. I really love it and agree with what you say. It's a little firm for the back roads, but you can back the suspension off to the comfort setting if you prefer to do so. I've done exactly what you had suggested, I fitted spark headers and an akrapovic end can on mine and it sings! I fitted a rapidbike evo tuning module too and had it custom tuned by those nice folks at Torque Tune Dyno and what a difference! It's quite the lively animal now (wasn't exactly bad before!).. But now at 130bhp at the rear wheel, its got that extra added attitude. I think it's Triumphs comfy version of a GSXR 750 (I've had several of those over the years). Find the bike pretty versatile and would cover commuting and touring too if you wanted to, although it's wasted on a commute. You'd certainly arrive with a smile on your face though, which is what this bike is all about, so much fun to ride and appeals / caters to a wide audience of riders and their skill sets. 👍😎
Ive had a few 600 supersports and a fireblade in my past, my bike at the moment is an fz1 and wanted something different, test rode one of these and instantly ordered one. It will be blasting round Yorkshire etc from march 😁😁
Ive been waiting for this video because i own a silver RS, and i love watching people ride one for the first time! Especially for you, as I noticed your love for the Triumph modern classics. It really is a firecracker, such a great balance of incredible power, great handling, and relatively comfortable riding position.
After riding your typical genre of bikes this would of course be surprised with this gem. These types of bikes feel much more precise and agile. When I return to “retro” bikes I feel that they are slow to react. I had a m2018 Honda CB1000R “neo-retro.” It was quick and buzzy. That is an inline 4. The buzziness was drove me nuts and it needed a seventh gear! I find this type better in tight city traffic as the response is accurate and immediate. My new Guzzi feels slow to respond (because of what it is). This sometimes gets me into trouble. It takes more skill to overcome the bucking and lag in response while navigating traffic in the inner city. This model of Triumph is well-liked. It does look quite aggressive!
it's hilarious how clueless insurance companies are when it comes to cc's vs hp's and the combination of the 2. That 765 would walk away from a T120 but if you don't understand hp, gearing and rev limits then you'd never have a clue.
These are the best reviews in my opinion, when an “outsider” tries something new. Very authentic. Another good example I saw recently was RedAng Revival’s review of the Z900RS.
I'm 5'9 and heavy set. I can ride my 2022 for about 4 hours+ at a time on Australian county twisties no problem. The benefit of the 2022 is that it has a larger tank so 300 km or 180 miles plus is possible.
Well, that yellow is quite nice - and it is kind of beautiful maybe, at least in the eyes of a wasp... I like to use the quickshifter in my bike at calm commuting too because I'm so utterly lazy. Anyhow, the main feature of this bike is in my opinion the weight. Advertised wet weight 188 kg! It is a light-weight bike! Great thing to have!
3:10 - RU-vid's closed captions when he says Akrapovič translates to and I quote: "a crap of itch". 🤣 I truly think this may be a rather underrated beauty of a bike. Loads of people prefer the sharper lines of the sport bikes out there, but for a strong, under 800cc, naked bike, this is amazing. I'd love to own one soon and use it for distance traveling or touring. Fantastic review by the way! 👌🏻
I have this bike. It's incredible. I keep wanting to get another bike. Then I ride this again and I'm so content. I rode it 5 hrs today, what an amazing bike. I would like to have a Harley and other bikes in the garage. But until then, what a great bike. I will keep it forever.
I've had my RS since the end of March (also in cosmic yellow), it's my third consecutive RS and by far the best, in both performance and handling, I know it's subjective but I couldn't disagree more with you re the exhaust and for anyone wanting to change the exhaust a slip on end can isn't an option it's a complete change from the headers back or nothing, I love the bike but have one small gripe, I don't like the TFT, Triumph's TFTs on the street triple started with the 2017 765 which was good the 2020 model not so good and the 2023 by far the worst with a much too cluttered look and the font too small but it's a minor gripe on a great bike.
I love these. I own a Street Triple 660 S and I'm planning to buy one come 2025 when my license allows it (I'm 27 but still under Australia LAMS) I'm thinking the R not the RS but there are additional things on the RS which make it well worth it. Things like the TRT Dash, Bar Ends, Belly Pan and Ohlins rear shock very well makes up for the change in pricing. However I have a few parts on my ST 66S which I'd carry over to an R when the time comes. I'd have to figure out what can be done for the exhaust and what's available as the mounting is different for the newer models.
I’m 5’8” and fit the bike well. I’m on the balls of my feet at a standstill. (30” inseam). I know you were complaining about the stiff ride, however it does have adjustable settings to make the back road rides easier to live with on its softer settings. It’s a bit unfair to compare this bike to a cruiser, since they have different goals. One can also complain that low seat riding cruisers will damage your spine on a bumpy back road. I personally love the howling intake and triple cylinder sound. The performance is also great considering the price point. If the bike has shortcomings, it’s the typical complaints of any “naked” bike… no wind protection and worse in rainy weather…. But that also means it’s solid fun when the weather is nice. 🌞😎👍
Not the sort of bike I like either, a more classic is definatly is more my style . But looking at that bike the front end is horrible in my option , the faring on the speed triple RR is much much more appealing with the single light and the faring .I think if they made a similar front end for that bkie it would be much nicer to look at. 😁
Love the bike Darcy, had it here since Tuesday and been waiting for the ice to go now we have a storm until Wednesday. But looking forward to putting some miles on it over next couple weeks. This is the bike that could get added to my fleet for sure 👌
Well, we have a problem. You could 1. Fake yer age. 2. Move to Murca / Canada / other country. 3. Get a dealer license. 4. Wait a couple o years. Yuk. If I have to suffer through reviews of this kinda bike, I could watch any fool reviewer. Your brand is much more interesting as it is, but this sort of bike doesn't interest me a bit....
Agree about the fork legs, conventional forks just look better than upside down, but at least these are in a nice, discreet colour. Which makes me wonder why Triumph give so many of their more classic styled bikes those tacky golden forklegs. Something to rethink, Triumph.
I bought the slightly faster and prettier Carnival Red version last Fall.😊 It comes with the rear seat and the rear cowl. To each his own, but I think the exhaust looks fantastic. Much better than a chunky aftermarket one. At 5'8" I flatfoot easily. I swapped tires out this Spring as our New England roads and weather aren't a great match for the track tires it comes with. I also use the comfort sertings on the suspension, plus went one turn out of the rear Ohlins(oddly labeled non-adjustble in manual). It rides FANTASTIC. Plenty of low-down grunt and really screams from about 8K on. Approaching mile 5,000 of sheer joy on the road.
Because you are into cruisers and classics it makes this review even more relevant. I think you hit the reason why people buy these bikes - grin factor. This is a great looking bike and I’m glad you enjoyed it.
@@fiucik1you call that Ugly? You should see the MT09 or MT07😅 but anyway, it shows that beauty is truly in tbe eye of the beholder. Personally most of the modern motorcycles I like europen brands the most but I'm more into modern Classics, and again the one's that come from Europe the most.
@@fiucik1You are Mad! 😀. See the bike in the flesh, that yellow is deep, lots of metallic and changes tone in the sunlight. And suits this naked bike well. This is a great Street bike, for legal speed, and can do Track days for those interested. It’s top class quality, comes with lots of Tech for those interested, and a beauty. What are you riding out of interest?
I bought one recently 2024 model 765 rs Red, it comes with the pillion seat and this was a upgrade over my CBT benelli leonchino 125, yes i went mental mode and got a fast bike for the first Cat A bike, also im only 5ft 4 and i love it lol
We can't insure you on the easy riding retro bike, here have a naked super sport instead. I swear the rules are written by raving idiots. I think I prefer the 1200 RR though with it's more retro look.
My v four is better..im not sure why anyone would buy such a half arsed motorcycle. Buy a 4 cylinder if you want some real thrills, get a 2 cylinder if you want to plod around. Buy a 3 cylinder and you get non of the benefits of a V4 and non of the benefits of a 2 cylinder. Haha😅
Hope to see you or the old man's opinions on the kawasaki 900RS as it bridges both elements of modern & clasic look but slightly brutal i have been told. I also would love to hear what you would make of the W800.
@@Borntobemild2625 looks, yes, it looks plenty like that famous Z1/Z900. However, it's quite easy, almost surprisingly forgiving to ride. Supposed it feels to aggressive, put it in rainmode for a while.
Love the bite, hate the headlights, they need to bring back the twin round headlights. I literally refuse to buy this bike cause of those fugly AF lights.
I currently own a Trident 660, but I did recently ride one of these at a Triumph demo event. The Street Triple is amazing too ride. Too bad it's really, really ugly in the front. Put a round headlight (or twin round headlights) on the front and I might go for it, but at this point, I'll stick to my Trident.
I love this bike in Cosmic Yellow, but I agree that it's ugly in any other color. I would love to ride a giant hornet. Honda's Hornet is a massive disappointment by comparison
@@MrDarcy-OlMan I think you will really like it. A bit more conservative styling, but with that really nice triple power delivery, smooth transmission, and excellent handling.
Thanks, Darcy. This was an excellent review. I love the look of the bike and have considered one. I'm 6'2" and I'm curious how leaned forward you were on the bike and how that felt on your wrists and hands?
They are a range of clothes that myself and the Ol Man love wearing. They are called Fuel check out our other video about the Fuel clothing: We Discovered The Best Motorcycle Gear Ever! I've been doing a direct access course, and have been learning to ride on several bikes in the school's fleet, but did my Mod 1 on this bike, and have spent the most time on it, and I love it. Your videos are great by the way - just very impressionistic and helpful.
I think the insurance thing is your age. I'm a 38 year old woman with less than a year riding and i was quoted £1k but I think what you mean about insurance is that triumph couldn't insure you as a reviewer because you're young and this is potentially why. I'm sure if it was your own personal bike you'd be insure but it would cost a bit.
How old are you? So funny that you couldnt be trusted with a t120 but theyll give you that! Makes no sense. I bought a t120 as my first bike and love it
Really good video Darcy. I’ve had mine for a month now and you touched on pretty much everything. I’m only 5’9” and have done some long runs on it and never get uncomfortable. My last bike was a Z900 which was amazing but the 765rs is just so good in every aspect
The problems with this bike, are if you a short rider there is no adequate way of making it safe to ride, if you are 6ft 2in then yo are catered for. if you go any distance the there is a constant concern with fuel, the back end is useless for fitting a top box , to secure helmet etc. if you go out for the day. Surely it not beyond Triumph to incorporate some adjustment for rider height
So… Let me get this straight… The insurance nuts over there will put you on a Street Triple RS, but not on a T120? That says EVERYTHING!🤣. Is that England, or California?🤔😵💫
I owned a 675r for 7 years. I’ve only rode a 765 gen 1 once they moved the game on more. The Triple still my favourite engine . Now own a 2015 Daytona for track and local riding. Have to admit the Daytona is not as good road bike as it is track . I think the 765RS would be good at both . I Would have to sell my super duke before the Daytona. As riding on the road in the uk is horrible now .
Was toying with the idea of an XSR900 but I may have changed my mind after watching this.... it'll be down to looks for me. Not too keen on the bug eyed face of the Triumph where as the XSR is more retro which I prefer. Decisions decisions....🤔
Oddly enough the first thing I thought as I saw this bike was a Wasp! Especially around the headlights! Nice but like yourself not my cup of tea! I also didn’t like the sound it made typically electronic in my opinion but if your into going like the clappers then why not give it a go! Good video & review 👍🏻
Such a shame you weren’t able to angle the camera to show the speedo in that last blast…. ahem.. Not for me mate, I’m a lanky 6’4” and about a decade older than your old man, but a bloody lovely bike if it’s your kinda thing.
I rode one of these last summer at mid ohio. What an excellent machine. I rode the “R” and the 120 hp is all there, believe me. The power curve is perfect. 3 cylinders is the best all around. The shifter was perfect, the braking was outstanding. I like the riding position with the handlebars. Its basically the fastest machine i’ve ridden that is still comfortable enough to ride daily. And if i bought one, id be sure to get a lot of looks and questions!
I had a 675 version and it’s a total hooligan bike, tons of fun but a bit of license loser if you get carried away, which is easy to do. UK insurance makes no sense at all! I’m a Brit but live in Austria and they grade bikes by BHP not cc’s, which makes total sense. Number plates are issued by the insurance company and I can use my plate for up to three bikes, simply swap it over. Insurance can be ‘paused’ over the winter season, hand plate back in and pick it up again when the snow and ice have gone! Cost is based on the most powerful bike in your stable… makes much more sense! Good down to earth review, thanks!
Lovely machine, especially in the yellow. Glad to see Triumph have done away with the bug eyed headlights from older versions. I'm maybe a bit long in the tooth for this bike but it would be perfect for some of the roads here in southern Spain.
Awesome bike , great fun and very fast but I think that the uk doesn’t have the type of roads you really need to enjoy it fully . Also fast easy to ride bikes encouraged us to go fast ( not good for your health ) great enjoyable videos 👍👍
Well done Darcy. Very well presented. I think it hilarious that insurance allows you to ride this crazy machine but not a T120. But what an exciting bike. I can tell you're not quite use to how these pull away - I had to laugh when you did the pull away shot. You revved the bike nicely but pulled away as if you were riding a Bullet 350 and then accelerated. Next time pull away with a bit of gas, but make sure you keep your weight forward. You guys have a great format that works for all types of bikes 👍
