"Love" has the most perfectly rhythmic line in the history of music. "The night is hot and black as ink." It matches the beat of the song's heart and is percussive as hell. Pure poetry!
Roger Daltrey was a brawler. He grew up having to be tough. He is the goat with the rock scream!! My favorite band of all time. I had the biggest teen crush on Roger Daltrey. I had his pictures all over my wall and on the inside of my locker. My friends thought I was such a weirdo because it was mid 70s when I became a fan. Nobody except me loved them or their bizarre movie Tommy. Meanwhile I collected album after album. I wonder if those old high school friends remembered me when they started watching CSI. Haha
Who who are also one of my favorite dance and one of my favorite lines of all time is in this song.⬇️ "I remember throwing punches around and preaching from my chair" This song was written about Pete Townsend the guitarist who had a night out on the town in a SoHo New York bar with a member of the sex pistols and was found sleeping in the vestibule drunk in the middle of night by a policeman.
You heard this on the TV show CSI, was the opening credits song. This song is a story about the guitarist Pete Townsend when he was drunk and roaming around the city late at night and a police officer clearly knew he was drunk and wanted to know who the fuck he was, lol. If you listen to the lyrics closely you can hear the line “You can go sleep at home tonight if you can get up and walk away”, the cop said to him. The powerful rock voice your hearing belongs to Roger Daltry, the lead singer, rounding out the band are bassist John Entwistle and the ever crazy, off the charts drummer Kieth Moon. The Who started out in the 60’s coming on the heals of the Beatles and The Stones British Invasion, as the band grew and changed from a sort of British Pop band to a heavier sound as they moved into the 70’s. As most of the 60’s Pop/Rock bands moved into the late 60’s and early 70’s they were influenced by the Psychedelic era, so did The Who, with lead guitarist and chief song writer Pete Townsend writing the Rock Opera Tommy. This particular album and song are from the late 70’s, near the tail end of the bands and drummer Kieth Moons life, sadly Kieth died from alcoholism not too long after the release of this album, right before the band were to go out on tour to support the album. The band did eventually stay together with a new drummer. Some other great Who songs to listen to are: Won’t Get Fooled Again Baba O’ Riley Behind Blue Eyes I Can See For Miles (From Their Earlier Stuff) Check them out, you’ll become a Who fan very quickly. \m/ Stay Metal \m/
"I know you ain't never seen no Black dude driving along listening to The Who before!" I absolutely LOVED that comment. If the sentence weren't so long, it would make for a great tee shirt! You are a total blast to watch and listen to. And I mean that in all sincerity.
Has flashback to Office Space with the white guy pumping up "Damn it feels good to be a gangster" by Scarface ( Or was that a Ghetto Boys track?). LOL. Actually I don't care, I'll pump up the rap as much as the metal so its whatevs..... just have the sound system to back it up :D
Pete Townshend's transitions are absolutely legendary on this closing title track of The Who's 1978 album. You should react to anything from 1971's *Who's Next*.
i love watching the youth of America, discover what "rawk" music really is, it's like i get to hear it for the first time, all over again, 40 plus years later. You have taste sir, The Who are excellent. Greetings from Scotland :)
I've seen countless numbers of reactions to this song, but you're the FIRST to point out "Ahh, who the fuck are you?" With all others it flew right over their heads. 😆
LFR Van reacting to the Who in the car? Thank you sir, may we have another? The Who have an incredible catalog running from the '60's till today. They were a massive influence on hard rock, heavy metal, punk, grunge, etc. Drummer Keith Moon is generally regarded as one of the top ten all time. Bassist John Entwhistle is also considered one of the best at his instrument. Sadly, both are no longer with us (R.I.P.)
The Who has a lot of angry, angsty tunes. They're in many ways one of the progenitors of punk rock. "My Generation" and "The Real Me" are good songs to get that vibe from, too.
One of the original “British Invasion” bands of the early-mid 60’s. IMHO, the best of the lot. Dynamic live shows and pushing the envelope in the studio. 100% entertainment.
Pete Townshend wrote the song and has claimed it is a prayer searching for God. I love the lines in the song: "I know there's a place you walked where love falls from the trees. My heart is like a broken cup, I only feel right on my knees. I spit out like a sewer hole - yet still receive your kiss. How can I measure up to anyone now after such a love as this". And yes, vocalist Roger Daltrey dropped 2 major F-bombs in this song.
Those verses, believe it or not, are written about a visit to Meher Baba's Myrtle Beach compound. Townshend was a follower of Meher Baba and writes about it in "Who I am."
You should check out the official video of this song. The Who were having a lot of fun recording this! And yes, he is using *that word* :) On the radio-friendly version the word "Hell" is used instead. The Who were one of the greatest bands ever to come out of England - Roger Daltrey's perfect rock vocals, Pete Townshend's distinctive guitar and backing vocals (he also wrote most of the songs), the madman that was drummer Keith Moon, and arguably the greatest rock bassist ever, John Entwistle. You should check out "Won't Get Fooled Again", "5.15", "Baba O'Riley", "My Generation", "I Can See For Miles", and "Pinball Wizard".
One of the reasons you may have heard at least part of that song before is that it was used for the opening credits of CSI (Las Vegas). Other WHO songs were used for both CSI Miami and CSI New York.
Roger Daltry has one of the BEST all time rock voices, he can do crazy stuff with a microphone (you have to watch him perform to really get this) and he’s done some acting. Awesome guy. Yes, “who the the f /hell are you”- because that was what Sid Vicious (Sex Pistols) said to Pete Townshend when they crossed paths at a party or some damn thing.lol
My Mom is an immigrant from Greece and we sent to see them in concert. She does the guitar windmills and everything. She calls them The Who Who's because of this song.
This was written by the guitarist, who at the time was woken up by a police man asking who he was, which might have amused him as he is a famous musician, so he wrote this song about it.
Random YELLING When Listening to THE WHO ... HelllllYA!! Like a PRO! Problem with Songs like THIS in the Car is that You Might get to Destination before Song is Done. Sacrilegious to Shut it Off...lol, Your Timing was PERFECT 💗
It was the theme to CSI, probably where you heard it. Love Reign O’er Me is amazing, Pinball Wizard, Bargain, and Won’t Get Fooled Again, and a you Better You Bet are among my favorites. They have so many songs, lol
What's interesting about this album cover is that Keith "The Loon" Moon, is sitting in the reversed chair because when taking this picture he had a pot belly that was sticking out past the coat.... One of my favorite songs from the Who next to "Tommy," and "Buba O'Reilly."
God bless you brother and God bless your family and I feel like I'm driving you with you like you're my brother and we're riding that out of the car together
Watch the studio version of them playing the song, Keith moon, roger Daltrey, Pete Townshend, John Entwistle. Daltrey and Townshend are still playing LIVE! watch ANY live performance of them!
so amazing a song and your reaction is like mine the first time i heard the f bomb! it was the 70s and we couldn't get over being tickled by hearing it on the radio. lol
This was the song that introduced me to rock music. When I was ten my stepbrother put this on in the car and when Roger Daltry said Who the fuck are you I was hooked. I couldn’t believe my ears. Yes indeed he sang FUCK on the radio.
The late Keith "The Loon" Moon on drums....one of the greatest of all time and yep, you heard the F bomb in there...it got grandfathered in and gets played on the radio just like that!
If you liked that you also have to listen to "Won't get Fooled Again", or my all time favorite My Generation from their Live at Leeds album - a long medley of bangin' songs all morphed together.
The Who started in 1964. Led Zeppelin didn't start until 1968. They were four years behind The Beatles and two years behind the Rolling Stones. Beatles - 1960 Rolling Stones - 1962 The Who - 1964 Led Zeppelin - 1968 That was just when the bands formed. Not when they made cut first records, or first hits, etc. All of the CIS shows used a WHO song as a theme song for the show. CSI Original - Las Vegas used Who Are You. CSI Miami used Won't Get Fooled Again. CSI NY used Baba O'Riley. And CSI Cyber used I Can See For Miles.
Roger Daultry is the lead singer, Pete Townsend is the guitar that he plays like mad and smashes them ) He also does main vocals on songs. John Entwhistle id the bass playerand Keith the Loon moon is the drummer. He drums like crazy with so many expressions and attitude!
First live concert I ever went to. Saw them at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse, December 1982. I was in 10th grade and had Saturday detention the next morning. I was quite hungover and still a little buzzed, plus my ears were still ringing. To this day, still the best concert I ever went to.
If you watch "The Masked Singer" they use that part and "CSI Miami". CSI also uses another Who song "Baba O'Reilly" - another excellent song for you to listen to.
I'm so glad you like that little piano interlude that sets up the return to bombastic. That is soooo good. And some of your "YEA"s sounded like Daltry himself.
"I remember throwing punches around and preaching from my chair" This song was written about Pete Townsend the guitarist who had a night out on the town in a SoHo New York bar with a member of the sex pistols and was found sleeping in the vestibule drunk in the middle of night by a policeman.
You heard this on the TV show CSI. Other great who songs were used as the theme for the other CSI shows. I think who are you was used for CSI New York or Miami. Try baba O'Riley, That voice is Roger daltrey and he is indeed one of the greatest voices in rock and roll. Keep those hands on the wheel at 10:00 and 2:00. 😆
This song is a "MUST" for any Who fan. Be careful when driving to this one. The PoPo will definitely nail you! Glad you listened to the uncensored version. It took 40 years for the Morality Police to realize they drop a couple of F-bombs in the song. Now it's "Who the HECK are you?". Really, people......? "I Can't Drive 55" by Sammy Hagar is another one that will land you in court! Check THAT one out, please. Great reaction.
Love" The Guess Who" that would be really cool if he did react to some of their music I don't believe I've ever seen a reactor react to" The Guess Who"
I also highly recommend The Real Me by The Who. It’s got an incredible bass line, crazy vocals, it’s the perfect song to blast in the car. The louder the better.
Well done, friend. (I saw them play in Buffalo around 1970, well before this song's release.) My very favorite part of this cut: Townshend's muted acoustic guitar solo. I always turn the volume way up for it but carefully cut it back before the monster guitar chord comes crashing down at its conclusion.
that was Roger daltrey you heard and he is absolutely one of the best rock singers of all time he's got the perfect Rock voice and knows what to do with it.
Great reaction video! The song was originally released in 1978, so for The Who to get away with singing "who the fv*k are you? was unheard of... at least to me, when I was still in high school! The back story can be found on www.songfacts.com/facts/the-who/who-are-you which was a slightly different version from the origination of the song I had heard. Great video!
I’ve been a Who fan since the day I heard Tommy by The Who. I was 7 when it came out! I even met Pete Townshend three times and had a small bar called Soo WHO, in Taipei! So glad you love the song. They are DOPE!
I really enjoyed the driving in the car reaction! You should buckle up and ride with Sammy Hagar - I Can't Drive 55! Just watch out for police cars while listening! LOL
Imagine this this was early eighties which I'm looking at you and thinking probably before you were born but it rocked it was before CDs and CDs are gone lol
