following a tiktok recipe - it honestly looked absolutely fabulous. Used exact same amounts etc and oh boy it was like concrete, it didn't help that my nozzle was a tad too small (must buy more!) but it was impossible to squeeze out so I added a splash of milk and a little more vanilla extract.
In the end I made 30 dinky ones, dipped in melted chocolate and cost 5p each. Not bad but blimey it took effort.
Hope you enjoy and thanks for watching....
Kerry
125g butter/marg
125g icing sugar
125g plain flour
25g cornflour
1 tsp vanilla extract
75g chocolate (optional - for dipping biscuits when cooked)
butter must be very loose before starting to help with the end result before cooking. Add butter and icing sugar to a bowl and whisk together. Sift in your flour and cornflour and with a spatula, fold it in until fully combined. (it may be a bit thick for piping, if so - loosen with a splash of milk)
Put the dough into a piping bag, and on a sheet of baking paper, pipe out any shape you like. I went with circles and squiggles.
Pop piped dough into the fridge for minimum 30 mins.
BAKE setting 180c/360f for approx 5 mins (mine were small - so keep an eye as may be longer or even shorter)
Once whirls are completely cooled, dip into the chocolate (that you've melted) set aside until chocolate has hardened. Enjoy with a lovely cup of tea

I see some other viewers commented but if you roll the dough into small balls and flatten with either a fork or the base of a sturdy glass it’s much easier than piping them. To melt the chocolate, do it in the microwave it’s much easier than the basin over boiling water. I often sandwich mine together with chocolate spread or vanilla icing if I add a couple of tablespoons of cocoa powder in exchange for one of flour. My kids always asked me to make little ones so they had more. When they were old enough it was their job to roll them out and flatten them. My daughter would use a fork because the “looked pretty” and my son the glass. Fond memories thank you

Aw fab comment, thank you so much Julie. I think my chocolate was too cheap, I tried to microwave it but it was burning on the edges, so had to abandon that and go with the steaming method - that took ages! 🤪😄👍💕 definitely prefer your method of rolling and pressing with a fork, will def give that a go

I have made my school recipe of Swiss tarts it was the same mix as Viennese whirls but the mix went into a paper case in muffin tins the cakes obviously were bigger than biscuits but the same happened even using a bigger piping nozzle I struggled. They were very nice but I rarely make them because of this reason
@budgetcookinguk

Just scoop dough , tbsp or small ice cream scoop 30 / 40 g . Then pat down on baking sheet. I ain’t going to wash piping bags , or put the effort needed ..to press this stuff through..it’s a nightmare. And just food processor , the ingredients. I’m not a lazy teenager..but I buy into the philosophy. lol

They look delicious and bet they were really good, I also think that your butter was a little too hard and needed to be quite a bit softer then you would have been able to work the soft pipe-able dough and saved your back! all good in the end though👌.
@angeladoggrell7531
@angeladoggrell7531 Месяц назад
Thanks Kerry. I think it’s the icing sugar that makes them so light and ‘melt in the mouth’. I suppose you could just put blobs of the mixture on the tin and not pipe them at all - it would taste the same but they wouldn’t be Whirls then would they?!
