Now you know what it’s like to be an English Munro bagger, hee hee! Use holiday to travel to Scotland and it’s tipping it down but it’s our only chance so we go anyway. As a result, I’ve had several memorable, foul weather experiences on Challum, including a genuine white out when the mist was thick enough to be indistinguishable from the snow. Also, crossing Lairig an Lochan when everything was ankle deep in water. But, these conditions make memorable experiences and, as you have shown, good videos. Seriously, those two Munros in those conditions - impressive. I’ll bet you remember this day when you are old and grey.

This summer has been disastrous weather-wise, so well done, James, for doing these two in such horrendous conditions. The bogs have been almost impassable the last two times I've been up at Loch Tay and Beinn a Ghlo. You're almost there. Keep going!✊

Ooft James, you chose 2 of the boggiest Munros on a very boggy day.. 😂 Fantastic that you enjoyed them in a mad kinda way tho. They are both stunning on cold crisp winter days when the bog is all frozen. Excuse to return tho. 👌

I had a similar day on Beinn Chabhair but swapped the rain for Snow. Makes for some “character” to the day. All the expensive waterproofs we buy sometimes struggle with our weather in conditions like this. Well done, your films have been superb. This “summer” has been the worst I can remember by a distance.

Character is a good word for it 😂 I suppose it makes for a memorable day! This summer has been rubbish, I have forced myself out some days.. can always redo them in good conditions I suppose 😁

I don't like either of these hills James. Boggy and boring to me. I did do Ben Challum from the north. A long walk down glen Lochay, but it was a much more interesting route than the normal one. Beinn Chabhair is just awful! Lol. Take care, Tom

It wouldn't be a true Munro Journey if you didn't get some tough days with rather dreary boggy conditions and nil viz. - and there's plenty of that down that way alright! I also feel less guilty of zipping by car between mountains - on the same day - in order to make best use of being in a particular area, nothing wrong in that! Well done - not long to go now James! It's a big moment when you get into single figures - be ready!

You picked two tough hills to do in a day. But good on you I did them separately but climbed Challum twice as I did not summit the first time due to mist and two worried lady’s with me. Climbed it a year later. Won’t rush to do it again though.

Great effort. Sometimes it's really rewarding to do big hills in rough weather. Tests all you have learned so far. That was soul sucking to watch haha... Great challenge though and now they're done and dusted. As much as I love a good view, I often treat my walks as an exorcism where it's all about the journey and not the destination. I would've loved this one... Maybe not so much mid way but, once done and when I'm shattered from it. Feels like your adding 3 days to your life haha

Dreadful weather this year. I've got a week in Kintail coming up which I already have low hopes for. Was there 2 weeks ago with 70 mph gusts (at the minimum... MWIS was a little less conservative with their estimates) and just barely got two munros. You made the best of it though!

Sometimes the walk is just about conquering the mountain with zero hope of views. Nearly all of my hiking is in the Lake District but I have had days where the winds on the mountain tops were 60-70mph, I walked through a mini-blizzard on the top of St Sunday Crag where the ground was frozen solid and shards of ice/snow were hitting me hard, and on one day there was a sharp downpour where the rain fell so heavily it bounced from the ground a meter upwards and formed a kind of thin ground fog.

Hi James, your great video reminds me how much I love that weather, both the wilder conditions of Chabhair and the sunshine and showers and teasing views of Challuim. My last visit to Chabhair was on a stunning clear day when I was joined on top by someone trying to see how to get to Beinn a' Chroin. When I pointed it out he couldn't understand why it looked so far away, until I realised that he thought we were on An Caisteal!!!!. I'd love to join you on your last Munro but there is no chance as I have had major eye surgery and was told today that I must not raise my pulse rate before mid September. Interesting to see what this summer's weather throws at you - a bonnie sunny day would be great for your video collection.

@ytfeelslikenorthkorea
@ytfeelslikenorthkorea Месяц назад
@@davidcalder8210 well... had two very close calls last year, took me a while but finally understood the lesson. This year, I tried Ben Lawers route 3 times. The first time, did Beinn Ghlas and Ben Lawers, but it was so unbearably cold that I just turned around. Came back two weeks later - clouds all over the summits. Turned around and went home :). Third time the charm - did all 5 (An Stuc descent was something else, but didn't feel like I was about to become a statistic) on that route, got some nice photos from the trip :) And that's how I want to do it. I have nothing to prove to anyone, so I only go North when I have 80% chance of actually seeing where I'm going :)
