Need to teach Leighton how to hold fish, he was putting his hand in the gills. Needs to learn to lip them. the way he carried them is great if you are going to eat them, but it doesn't work well to keep them alive.

The way that Leighton was carrying the fish with his hand up through the gills probably damaged the gills which means the fish aren't going to be able to get enough oxygen because the gills are their lungs. So the ones that probably aren't making it might be once I had damaged gills..

Fun times fishing with the family. Just a little suggestion when putting fish back in the water don’t throw them in the water. Hold their tails and move it side to side so the oxygen going back into their gills. It’s sad to just throw them in puts them into shock.

When you put the fish back you need to move them backwards and forwards to get the water and oxygen to get in their gills unless they are really moving a lot. That was a really good time had with the kids fishing they really had a great time especially you too Brandon could see the enjoyment on everybody’s faces . 😊

It sounds good. But if you put treated city water in your pond, it will probably kill your fish. Need to use only untreated water.

Nice bass Leighton (5:30) Congrats! Your pond probably isn't big enough for many more fish. Remember, the bass are not tolerant of warm or hot water and Oklahoma heat will raise your pond temperature too high to keep them alive. Usually you get a "die off" in August or September. Cold water can hold more oxygen. Warm water depletes the oxygen and increases algae growth which sounds good, but they use up oxygen at night and you get fish kills. 1) You can buy an aerator for your pond. OR 2) you can pump colder ground water into your pond to keep the temperature down. Good luck.

RELOCATING : next time grab the smaller ones and let them grow into your pond and try and figure out spawning season in your area so you're increasing in your pond when you catch and release ❤

When releasing fish you have to swish them back and forth (like they are swimming) in the water was to run the oxygen over their gills. Never throw them in the shock will kill them.

Hi there. Holding the fish will injure the gills and compromise the fishs breathing. When leaving a fishing pole unattended it is best to take the drag off and or place the pole behind the damb wall ( tip up, handle down) that way a Fish can't drag the rod into the water, no swimming needed. Also the plastic of the container will kill the fish. God bless.

I love this! You parents are the best. Your kids are learning so many things like family togetherness n bonding, fishing n there’s never a competition between your kids. Great job, You are right about the reason your stocking the pond. I like that bait thing you were using. I will have to run it back to see what you called it. We always used live bait but the kids get bored just sitting there waiting for a bite, Then you had to hook it. Thanks for the knowledge.

Great lesson on not leaving trash behind, especially fishing line. I was fishing the river yesterday and found a sparrow wrapped up something awful in old fishing line. I got it untangled but the bird was really bunged up. Really heart warming seeing the children have so much fun ,and especially the biggest kid of all DAD 😂
