My favorite way to describe NF is to reference one of his quotes. “I mean, I’m a Christian, but I’m just an artist. I’m a musician. You know what I mean? To me, it’s like if you’re a Christian and you’re a plumber, are you a Christian plumber? That’s the easiest way for me to explain it. I just make music.”

Exactly, he isn't a Christian Rapper. He's a rapper that's a Christian.

Some context. Mansion was marketed as Christian music. NF got a lot of flack from pastors and parents about it being too dark. This song has a lot of responses to those criticisms in it. This is him setting the record straight on what his music is.

His music also gets dismissed a lot by non-Christians because he is a Christian and because he openly talks about that aspect of his life. So he responds to that type of commentary in here as well by saying that his music is for anyone and everyone who can relate to it in some way.

I grew up in a Christian household. I went to Church as a young one. I continued that until I was a teenager. A youth pasture once told me and my friends that we were not allowed to attend church unless we dressed a certain way. I stopped going at that point. I have since been agnostic in my views towards religion. Watching your reaction to NF was painless. I came in thinking that I would regret watching this. I appreciate your open mindedness about music and other aspects of life. If I happen across other videos in the future I may sub.

You should check out a book called Death to Deconstruction by Joshua Porter. It's about a guy who struggled with his faith because of the way people in the church treated him. He was a lead singer for a Christian heavy metal band. It's a great read. Thanks for listening!

I don't think it was strategic, NF was just being honest about his struggle with his walk and instead of trying to be more Christian he decided he needed to do secular Hip Hop which allowed him to be real. God had a plan that NF probably didn't even know he was following. Now he is going into the public marketplace and alleys and dark corners and spreading hope. Amazing to see.

I really enjoy your reactions. Very interesting that you brought up AA and comparison to church. I'm 56, and believe it or not a huge NF fan! I'm also an alcoholic and just recently got seriously into the AA program because my illness has progressed to the point that it severely impacting my life. In a recent meeting I shared with the group that AA appeared to be very much like what a church was intended to be. Before people start to comment, I'm NOT saying AA is in any way a substitute for a church but I'm saying that for people with the serious problem of alcoholism, AA provides exactly the kind of environment needed for healing. Everyone in the room has a different story but with almost the exact same underlying flaw/issue/brokeness. That creates the kind of environment needed to share openly not just our issues but also that there IS A SOLUTION and people at the table can 100% testify to how it works (if you work it!). Keep doing what your doing!

My husband and i produced christian rick and rap concerts starting in 1995. We were the evil ones then most churches believed. But our pastor and a few others understood when they saw the results. We wrote the lyrics out for the older people but they never appreciated it. It's about new wine in old wineskins. It does bring anointing with it for many.

I just binged through all the videos of reacting to NF, because I love NF, love reactions to him, and as a Christian I thought it’d be cool to see reactions through some Pastor’s eyes. Not sure if you have an ongoing list or anything, but I’d like to see a reaction to a lot of his songs but right now, his song “Know” from his Perceptions album I’d love to see

I believe that songs such as this are helpful to people. Bringing a light on things that other people would rather ignore. The false and damaging view that what happen in the home stays in the home and to honor thy father. That has been my biggest hurdle in my faith is the monster of a father I had made me not want to embrace another father, even the Godly Father. I am a Christian but I have had to cling to my faith. Mainstream Christianity has been damaging. I am sick of meeting Christians who believe they have the right to judge others. I have stood outside of a church service window, looking in and crying because I knew I was not like the people inside and did not believe I would be welcome among them. A cousin who told me I am an abomination to God, a psychiatrist who told me I was going to Hell for having suicidal thoughts. It's wrong to feel more accepted on a barstool by people covered in tattoos yet be damned by the Christians who only judge a book by it's artful or scratched cover. It is not up to the debate of others on what will happen to my soul. ONLY GOD MAY JUDGE ME AND IT IS ONLY !HIS! JUDGEMENT THAT I CARE TO LISTEN TO. So I end this with John 13:34 A new commandment I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.

That's why I say I'm faithful, not religious. I've long thought that modern religion is nothing more than man trying to put a leash on God, to put words in his mouth as a way of getting away with saying and doing evil things. There are a few good ones out there, and I'm glad they exist for the people that need them, but I haven't been to church since I moved out of my parents house almost 20 years ago, and I don't feel like I'm missing anything. I know He has my back, and I do my best to try to live how I think he wants.

I have a question, if you wouldn't mind answering. The main reason I'm not religious is because I'm gay, and I feel that I wouldn't be accepted. I am interested in Christianity, but I'm not going to deny such an integral part of who I am. How do I work through that?

Thanks for your honesty. (This is Chris, the guy on the right in the videos). I read a book recently called Holy Sexuality by Christopher Yuan. It's a really good read and if you have a library app you can listen to it. He went through some of the same things you are talking about and could speak to that. My short take is that following Jesus is about listening to Him and allowing Him to change you from the inside out. It's not about changing your behavior, but about letting the Holy Spirit lead you everyday.

his statements at 4:13 forward is a true statement. it wasnt my parents when i was younger but the youth group leaders and other so call christans in the church and the other i went to that judged me or critizied me because i liked and listened to rock, metalcore or metal bands that were christan or not (even got static for liking skillet because they made devil music. even though they are a christan band). ultimately they turned me off of it all and i walked away to follow my own path of belief. very tragic that some people that claim to be of god cant even follow they teaching of love one another and dont judge unless your willing to be judged. its also just tragic that it pushes people away.

"Like in the comments sometimes." Bro broke the 4th wall...but seriously, it is an issue on the internet and it's really sad to see how common it is for that to happen, because what we say and type can have a serious impact on people, and these aren't exactly harmless jokes.
