I love this song and I enjoy Fleet Foxes. This song was on my playlist for a couple years. It's so catchy, but relaxing.

The fact that people are still discovering Fleet Foxes both astounds and pleases me. They’re so special and deserve every recognition.

@@TheWolffAndTheMelodyI recommend checking out Whitney. They’re pretty much the only other contemporary band I know that gives me some of the same feeling as FF.

I love this band so so much. Helplessness Blues is such a beautiful song. In fact, the entire Helplessness Blues album is perfection.

Interesting song. I looked up what the meaning could be and found this on the Rolling Stone website: "Fleet Foxes songwriter Robin Pecknold revealed to Rolling Stone that his songs are "written from personal experience,” including “Hymnal,” which was about a time when his friends ditched him in middle school. The lyrics might have been about childhood past, but the melody came from a familiar source - namely, Walt Disney. “The idea was a song like “Whistle While You Work,” from Snow White, you know?” Pecknold said. “So it started with that very beginning thing, the first kind of like, melody. And then once the verse was done, it just seemed like it lent itself to the repetition, you know?”

Love to see a fleet foxes reaction! They're a band that's big on harmonies, storytelling, and capturing moments and memories in music, and each of their albums carries a different vibe. In that sense, the video (made by the lead singer's brother, iirc) is fitting, how recalling a moment in time can be so vivid and bring you back, awash with those same emotions and senses, and then as suddenly as it's there, it's gone, and you're back in the present, left with the lingering taste of it, knowing that some things that may have shaped you might fade but that doesn't make them less important. This song's really pretty and largely used to musically set the tone for the listener in the album, and I get why it's often people's introduction to the band, given Pentatonix covered it a ways back and it's become their most well known track as a result. If you're looking for more from this era of the band, I'd definitely recommend 'Ragged Wood' or 'Blue Ridge Mountains'. Both tracks are so full of harmony and rich with texture and life. They pulled a lot of influence from bands like The Beach Boys, Crosby Stills & Nash, The album they followed this one with, 'Helplessness Blues', was largely a love letter to Robin's (the main singer) girlfriend at the time, trying to explain his difficulties finding his own place in the world. What he wants his future to look like, the uncertainties and insecurities he's battling with, the helplessness he feels after rejecting his selfishness (meaning there's no simple, easy, fast answer to where he'll find his next purpose, his next goal, moving from an individual to a communal perspective on what a good life might mean not just for himself but for his girlfriend, his family, his loved ones) and his yearning for a simple and good life that he only has an idyllic notion of, but isn't sure how to get there or what form it might take for him yet. He just knows he's determined to get there, and he wanted her there with him. Or, if you want to dip further into the topics you brought up (not living with regret, making the best of your time, pushing through hardship towards a hopefully better future, giving yourself some grace for the past), some songs from their most recent album 'Shore' could be good, such as "I'm Not My Season" or "Featherweight" (the latter having an equally stunning video made by Robin's brother), though this album is a bit more stripped back and intimate, less layered as usual (think of it like a the shift from winter to spring, there's that ever present chill and starkness in the air still, but you can feel the warmth around the corner and in the rays of the sun again). He does a fair bit of reflecting on the past and finally allowing his past self a bit of grace after a few albums of being harder on himself than he should have been. It's an album that was released in the midst of the pandemic, and it really carried me and a lot of others through that long period of isolation. Anywho, I've late-night rambled enough. TL;DR they're a great band with a deep discography, vulnerable and vivid lyrics, and a love for harmony. Even if you never come back to them again on the channel (the band's fanbase on youtube is sadly not large), I definitely can't recommend them enough. Thanks for the great, honest reaction!

@@TheWolffAndTheMelody Awesome 😊 It really is a fantastic album and I dare say a classic in it's own right. I've listened to that album so much over the years when I first discovered them back when the first album came out. I actually don't skip a single track from that album, I really think it is that good. It kills me I never got to see them live with the original lineup😭

This was not for me. It didn't even seem like a song,it seemed like more of a jingle for a holiday movie. Not trying to hate on it at all but I'm just calling it like I see it. The vocalist had a nice sound.
