I've watched numerous videos, I own several golf program DVDs, subscriptions, etc. I'm a 7 handicapper. I've returned to this video twice now over the past couple of weeks. It delivers great basic foundation for the golf swing - back swing, delivery & rotation through the arc. Splendid. You did an admirable job of demonstrating the very basic golf swing which I myself strive to continually improve upon. Kudos.

Tomorrow night I’m at range and this is what I’ll be doing, thank you Chris, yet again a straightforward drill presented in simple terms, please keep it up

Excellent! This was the lesson I did not get 50 years ago before I became a club pro (long retired). It is not only beginners, very few club golfers rotate the left forearm as you demonstrate here, in fact in your best swing (the first) you rotate more. All top golfers rotate the left forearm either on the backswing (McIlroy, Fowler), at the top (Wolff, Jimmy Bruen), on the downswing (Bobby Locke, Couples) or throughout the swing (Vardon, Snead, Nicklaus). Rahm and DJ are exceptions. At 70, I have only just understood this as no-one else seems to teach it and I have lost my slice of 50 years and strike the ball better than ever.

You're the best. I am finally connecting with the ball and finding some consistency. I understand many of the basic principles, but your drills and exercises have really helped me put them into practice.

Great lesson! I’m a good golfer and always got by on thinking straight lines. I definitely feel this is the proper road forward to get even better.

As an instructor...I use this little chip shot drill is the basis of the chip shot, pitch shot and full swing...this drill in conjunction with proper ball position will set a player's swing foundation... Thank you for reinforcing my teaching techniques.

Simple but important indeed. It shows you that you can trust your swing, and "steering" the club is not necessary. I am picking up so much from your video's, thanks so much!

Still need to think like this even though I'm feeling like I'm improving, playing magority of rounds in 90s now, I still sneak back to that horrible push shot, where I forget to rotate/exit left! As always, love the simplicity you bring to the tuition Chris 👍

It all helps Chris. Im even working on the slight arc with putting for squaring the face at impact rather than trying to be straight back and forward.

I know this is a little later, but you have greatly helped my golf game over the years. i come back to this video every couple months to get back to a great swing and proper technique. between you, and Rick shiels YT i’ve improved greatly. i recently played my best game, i shot +2 over par on my local par 3 course. it’s not champion numbers but it’s my greatest feat yet. i was able to drive the green every tee box on the course, my putting game needs work but i promise you any new/ established golfers with issues this helps greatly. thanks a ton mate!

I've been playing golf over 45 years, only had a couple weeks of instruction when I first started at 14 years old. The rest has been people's advice. Some good, most bad. It's been nice getting great instruction from knowledgeable players like you.

Well what can i say, only that i have just come back from the range with a smile on my face.. Brilliant advice Chris thanks very much. Back tomorrow and i will be doing this drill more.

OK. You were 16. I started at 45. My "feeling" of the proper swing was all arms trying to force the club through the ball to get a left draw. Result was over the top and a hard right into the right side fair way of the other hole. Result. I learned how to punch back into my fairway through the trees from the other fairway on the right. This year, at 75, I learned about twisting my waist. And rocking my feet to get a rotational club head. Not chopping wood. Not swinging all with my arms and chopping the ball behind the golf ball. Still working on my new swiing. Sometimes.

Oh wow. I didn't know this. I keep trying incorrectly to make it straight like you said. Thank you. It might be my most valuable lesson yet.

Helpful, I had a PGA Pro give me a similar drill. The back and forward striking the ball straight to a target. This is a great reminder.

I really don't comment often, but I feel compelled to here. I've had lessons, read books, watched countless hours of videos, but something about how you broke this down just resonated with me. I've been conceptualising this wrong since I started playing the game, only a few years ago. This lesson has given me a key to a puzzle I've been trying to solve for years. Your channel is one of the best on RU-vid. I started golf late as well (in my 30's), and the greatest disservice my first instructors did was to give the impression that the golf swing was in a straight line. I have been a slicer and inconsistent ball striker for the most part, up until a few years ago when I started realising what you are trying to teach in this video. Swinging in an inclined arc is probably one of the most fundamental principles of the golf swing. After a decade of hitting the ball incorrectly, I finally began the correction process, and am still trying to unlearn years of bad habits ingrained over time. I wish there were channels like yours back in 2005; I would've had more enjoyment and less frustration! I am a recreational golfer, but I still want to play well, and your lessons have helped immensely. Thank you!

Thank you for this Chris. As fairly new player this helped me out a lot. There is some kind of neuromuscular fascination our bodies have with keeping the club head on target. As you said it's much more of a complex problem when you realize the club head is constantly on a swivel.

Great video!!! I was struggling trying to consistently hit the ball straight & was really trying to manipulate the golf ball with a straighter swing path. This video really made sense. It was a great golf lesson. I'm now hitting the ball soooo much straighter. Thank you!!!

Very nice, I especially liked the comment about the club head coming straight back. I was told to do that as well and seeing how you explained why NOT to do that and seeing it in the video, it made me laugh, "of course it makes sense not to do that".

Thanks Chris for the video. Can you please do a video where we talk about the domination of hands during golf swing. Some coaches say start a swing with a left hand and pull up with the right hand. Some coaches says, keep the left hand straight and only use the right hand to start and end the swing. What your view on that? Thanks.

I have the wrong concept in my head, although I do know I'm doing it wrong, I struggle to follow through the swing and tend to hold off which squirt out right. Good video Chris, hopefully will help me 👍👏

Chris, great video. Its not just for beginners. I'm a scratch golfer getting ready for the Senior Tour Q school and when I start to see wayward drives, I always follow this same drill concept. In fact, its your video you did with the driver and the alignment stick out in front. Ball goes to the right of the stick and club goes to the left side. After seeing that video, I subscribed to your feeds. My swing coach, Marty Fleckman, former PGA Tour player for 15 years, is always stressing finish left if you want to keep the flight straight. Keep up the great instructional videos, even skilled players learn something new from them.

Your so right about timing if it is just off to the higher handicapper it becomes so demoralising I just try to get timing right and not concentrate on speed because I’d rather lose distance and try to keep on line , another great gem from you Chris 🏌️‍♂️

Thanks Chris - I get that - it describes my thought process pretty much but one of your previous lessons related to producing a draw with the driver, where the set-up was closed relative to target line and club face also slightly closed - I use this technique a lot with a fair degree of success. But how does that relate to this lesson - can both be right ?

Once the visualization of an incline plane got into my mind as what the golf swing should be, it really created a revolution in my personal swing. I became able to just trace the plane line with the clubhead and make my body accommodate the required movements. I spent a lot of time unable to properly even envision the right swing plane.

Hi Chris. I notice your club face was more vertical at P2, would i be wrong to say with the modern swing is to try to keep the club face square to the arc throughout the swing. Nice for you to bring up your first golf lesson. I think there is more contradiction between different coach's today and there was years ago.

Jonathon, From position one with club parallel to the ground, do you PRONATE your left arm to get to the top of your backswing? Then, on your downswing do you suppinate (rotate) your left forearm to square the clubface? If so, WHEN do you start suppinating (rotating) the left arm? Thanks!

Just discovered you on RU-vid and really hope this works. Just rejoined my local golf club here in Portugal after not playing for 2 years and can’t hit long irons. My head is raising up and am forcing shots (swinging the club like a lunatic!) Played 3 rounds since beginning again and have had to walk off before completing 9 holes as playing so badly and completely embarrassed. Saturday I bogeyed the first 4 holes and hit the ball well and after that I just hit the ground or smashed the ball right with my 5 - 9 irons. Please help!!!
