Made some horrible decisions, lost everything, was rebuilding then fucked up again. Did some time been rebuilding again. Taken nearly 10 years to get to a point where I'm proud of myself. Been with my wife since I was 18, got 3 beautiful daughters and 7 grandkids. They never gave up on me even when I did, even when I raged at them to just go away and let me go. I have stuffed so much down, bottled it up and buried it. This song opened up the places I was hiding, helped me to finally face the self I was hiding. Helped me share my load so it doesn't break my back. I've shared it with my daughter's so they can better understand what the men in their lives are going through.

I never saw my dad cry growing up, and i think that subconsciously made me feel like crying was a sign of weakness. Once i grew up and attempted to open up in relationships showing emotions changed every single relationship i have been in, what i opened up about was eventually used against me, and used to bring me down at a time i needed someone there for me.. ive tried opening up to the women in my life, its never helped me out. Bottle it up, push it down and keep grinding. I now work on a way to show my son that his emotions will mean something to the right person/people in his life, and if they arent taken seriously then those people do not deserve a spot in his life. Im TRYING to break a cycle! ❤❤

I hugged my husband tight after hearing this. I’m so grateful. And we’re trying our hardest to ensure our sons grow up to be strong but loving and feeling men someday. I’m very blessed to have a husband that DOES confide in me. We’ve been through some painful ish and I’ve seen him at his lowest. It only increased my respect for him. Too many women use a man’s heart against him… it’s cruel and twisted when a woman claims to want that kind of openness and then use that against him. 💔

I haven't cried in 20 years, since I was 17, when i saw ny grandfather withered from stomach cancer, I wailed deafening for an hour in the foyer of the hospital, I haven't cried since, not even at his funeral. And God knows many times i needed to, I can feel it, I get up and keep moving. Part of me loves the validation of a video like this, part of me says leave me alone, I defy you to intervene as I break, and build alone. Until the woman sang, I softened a bit. I'll keep working.

This colab is actually the *first* version of the song I'd heard. It has been, since my discovery of it, my favourite work of art. I cannot believe what Dax caused here and am so grateful to him for starting this. The verses that came after the original are still striking hard. I bawl everytime I hear either version.

17 years in the military, deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan. I’ve always been the strong one. My dad was a Viet Nam vet, and he was a great man. My father taught me to be strong and wise at all times. I developed a personae of strength for everyone, but for so many years I’ve just felt so broken inside, and yes, I have cried alone so much. No one ever saw my trauma because I thought I had to be the strong one. It’s ok though because I finally found a woman that is so strong for me and is the first woman of my life that I’ve been able to be myself, can cry in front of, because she listened to me when I talked about my PTSD, my depression, and how tired I am. I asked her to marry me, and she said yes! We get married in August!

In my experience, we (men) condition ourselves and each other to be emotionally repressive as a way of protecting each other, because we know that showing emotion around the majority of women, will be seen as weakness.

You know what’s sad? I’ve intentionally watched sad videos to try to get myself to cry and I haven’t been able to 12 years. The last day I shed a tear was when I was holding my dad’s hand before he went back to have heart surgery. Before that, i haven’t cried since I was 12. I’m 27 now and I’ve cried once in 15 years because the tears were abused out of me by a neighbor.

I was raised by my grandparents after my mom died when I was 7 yrs old they told me we don’t cry in this family!! We drink our emotions away… I have been abandoned by everyone in my life especially at my lowest!! My kids mom left me while I was in the hospital having my 4th amputation starting the 5 yrs of alienation I am finally getting into court for!! In last 7 yrs I have had 6 amputations and I keep pushing no tears

It's not just the woman, men will mock and shame each other if we show any emotion. Growing up in school, the emotional guys were always the first one's bullied by other guys. It's a trend that has been going on for generations, even now it's still strong in our hearts that we need to pay the bills and provide or we feel worthless and dead inside. As a twitch streamer, I've met so many amazing people and I've lost friends who took their lives cause they couldn't provide or keep their family together. This message, is such a strong one that we need to spread every day.

My younger brother ended his life August 2021 and my uncle ended his life in September 2023. I only wish i could have done something. You never know how much time you have with your loved ones. Embrace your brothers, husband's, uncle's grandfather's. Don't take them for granted. It can end incredible fast. Especially with men because they don't talk about it.... take care, and be safe ❤️❤❤

I have never talked to anyone about these things for one reason ...if I can't fix or handle my problems no one else can or will . Something to think about.... in every "story" we get told as kids, when we're small and trying to figure out how to fit in this big world... "A Hero Saves the Day"... we're taught from nursery rymes and disney movies and kids storys that the hero is always the big strong silent type that does what has to be done, right wrong or indifferent... Ghaston doesnt have feelings, Prince Charming doesnt have feelings, they're just big and tough and never have to cry... ... then we turn to our parents, who deal with things that are SUPER Scarry to us as kids, and just brush it off... Not because theres any ill intent but because as adults we understand how to overcome hurdles in life with confidence, ... so, yes, there has been plenty of "bad parents" who screw their kids minds up... but in this case, i dont think that EVERY kid/now man came from a screwed up family... we grew up with hero's that never had to express emotion... so some of us dont know how to.. and asking for HELP, meens admitting to yourself and someone else that you dont "have life all figured out" ... and that can really rock a persons confidence, especially when times ARE tough...

As an athlete, Marine, Farmer I didn’t find my feelings till I hit my 30s because coaches, Marines, and other men I hung around would tell you to suck it up. You’re not allowed to show emotion because people will take advantage of you. Then I found real friends and real men and found out it was ok to have emotions.

Thank you for that very real reaction. I have been with my wife for 36 years now. I raised a stepdaughter and am now raising 3 grandkids. Being a man is a thankless job. I learned this extremely young.

*When I'm spending more than 20 minutes in a shower I'm sitting in the tub, water running over me and crying out everything I've built up being a man as well as the memories that came back to haunt me again.* Spent 4 years as infantry in combat followed by being a firefighter/medic before switching to law enforcement. I took care of my mom as she died from cancer. I took care of my dad after his quadruple bypass and 2 strokes. I've helped my siblings when they were at their rock bottom. All while taking care of my own little family. Yes flashbacks are real. I relive combat, see the eyes of those I wasn't able to save looking back into mine and feel that lifeless baby I couldn't revive in my arms. But when my family asks how my day was all I'll say is it was good. They don't need to worry or suffer with me. All I want my family to know is that they are loved, safe and taken care of. When I'm alone I'm definitely chilling with my demons.
