This wasn't part of the plan... DIY Dashboard for our Land Rover Series 3

We hit a big hurdle this week as we remove our dashboard only to find it completely warped and rusted! This certainly wasn't on our list of things to do as we rebuild the engine, but as with all old car tasks, surprises are always part of the package.
See you on the next one!

Nice. Busy with my own Series 3, and pulled out my dash last week, in preparation of taking out my Bulkhead, and I'm going to have to go through the same process as you did in the video, so thumbs up for the perfect prep video. When I saw the bottom of the dash, rusted and crumbling, I shuddered thinking of how mine looked. Awesome job. Thanks for sharing.

Dude, you should be seriously proud of that dash. I rebuild landys as a "lifestyle choice". That dash rebuild is next level. Full respect.

That dash came up awesome especially when you don’t have the “proper tools” presses and stuff. You should be really proud of it. Top stuff 👌🏼

Wow! I'm impressed! You did a great job with the dash and instrument cluster! Not sure I would have had the bravery to tackle a job like that. Especially with all those wires hanging loose. I would have spent an eon reconnecting them all. I hope you labeled them as you unhooked them. Looking forward to your next update.

Bloody marvellous Glenn. Great work all round. Considering you're not a professional "tin man" that fabricating work was top notch. There's an expression where I come from that goes "He's so handy he could put an arsehole in a cat." I think that applies here. Bravo mate!

I can watch hundreds possibly thousands of travellers in $100 000 + rigs travelling around many countries , but it's so much more enjoyable to follow folks that are happy to do it in a more wholesome way ,,,

Good on you for giving it a go rebuilding the dash. May never be exactly the same as factory but at least you can say you built it yourself and it didn’t cost you a fortune 👍👍

Glenn, Great job on dash. I'm totally surprised you didn't injure yourself. No shoes, no goggles, no gloves. I eould already have injured myself. Love your videos. Can't wait to see what's next. Thanks for the update

Hi Glenn ,yes I had a mate that lost his finger from doing metal work on a boat from just wearing his wedding ring. do be careful .Safety does come first,but your project is coming along very well.
@KendallandGlenn
@KendallandGlenn 6 месяцев назад
Thanks a lot for the concern David. I'm definitely wary of the dangers involved with rings but not using machinery and working on machinery with moving parts I assessed it and didn't see any risk. Thanks a lot for following along and I'll be sure to remove the rings when getting into the bigger stuff :)

For rusty nut and bolts , mix up 50/50 auto trans fluid and acetone , works a treat , for degreasing , use oven cleaner , stiff or old brush , wear gloves and glasses , take care with this mixture on aluminium, just dont leave it on to long , buy a brick bolster and sharpen the edge and tap along the line were you are going to fold the sheet of metal , citric acid is good on rust , you can even use grape fruit ,,,

Bloody rippa work guys! What adhiesive did you use for the foam to vinyl stage please? I can't seem to get a good bond on my trim panels and yours clearly sticks extremely well
@KendallandGlenn
@KendallandGlenn 6 месяцев назад
Cheers mate! So at first we used Kwik-Grip spray which was terrible. And then we went to Clarke Rubber and got their specific foam adhesive spray and that stuff was incredible. So good to work with the difference is insane. It's expensive but after this experience I would never do it without it. Was shocked how much better it was.

Dude, take off all jewellery when using machinery like this. Take those damn rings off before you lose a finger.

Nah mate, you don't use gloves using a jigsaw or any rotating / reciprocating power tools @@BobBob-nx3yh

Thanks for the concern. I 100% agree when working with moving parts but in these circumstances I'm not sure what could damage my fingers more with wearing the rings. I am definitely wary of the dangers involved with wearing rings and metalwork and appreciate the comment :)
