Just a tip. Watch the wide open arm gestures. The dog,Herc could perceive wide arms as aggression gestures. It's also a good idea when the ground is dry to just sit on the ground and let Herc come to you on his own. Or not if that's what he chooses. You can talk to him , and they love sweet talk. Just don't show your teeth and don't have your head close to his. Slow movements help too. Hope this helps.

The more you are always around and Kyle and Shanon don't treat Matt as a threat, Herc should start accepting him as "family". Never act "leery" around an "unfriendly" dog. You have to be assertive and show you are more "alpha" than they are.
Love when you visit Kyle and Shannon. Was awesome seeing Herc with you. It's only going to better ~ those treats are a game changer! Thanks for sharing part of your visit with K & S ❤
Also, just keep in mind he can more than likely sense theater. If you were having that at that moment, and with the leash, he can feel the energy running down on the leash as well, so if anyone’s nervous, he’ll be able to sense it as well.
Matt, word of advice. Be careful around Herc still. When a dog like Herc takes his job that seriously he may not except you in the pen with his family. You can take a dog away from their home and family and he will act totally different. But in with the family he is back on the job. Herc understands his job well and takes it seriously. Keep working with him thru the fence as well as outside the fence. He may eventually except you and allow you to meet his family while he is there. I am saying this because i have been around these dogs as well as other more aggressive breeds like Doberman Pinchers. 9 times out of 10 there are 2 sides to a working dog. then there is the one who just refuses to break. I believe in time Herc will come around but do it slowly. Treats is a good idea and can help thru the fence meets as well if he is willing. Good luck in winning him over. I believe you can do it.

Hi Matt, Kyle, and Shannon. Herc is a very serious LGD. His charges come first. If you continue to visit him, he will see you as a friend eventually. It just takes time, be patient. Blue's babies seem to enjoy you playing with them. And Blue seems to be ok with you too. Bruno seems to be enjoying meeting you. Looks like you have a strong foot in the door now. Great video...... and your skills are expanding with your visits to Shady Acres and all the stuff you do at Grandpas and now your Farm too. With the baby goats and the big goats, not to mention the piggies. The chickens are just different creatures, no cuddles or scratching but some actually visit with you. You are amazing. Keep growing in your new found field.
That was a perfect way to work on herc to accept you. Just keep working on it by going over to K&S as much as you can. You can also leave a shirt with your smell for herc, so he becomes accustomed to your scent

I had a spoilt princess doggy, I wanted to have many but I had the same feeling you had....I ended up getting a friend to come over with her pup, best thing I ever did, ended up getting a puppy and they were best friends until my princess passed away....to be honest I think having another friend gave her more energy and happiness 😊, I will never again have just 1 doggy 🐕🐕 💖

Matt, your acclimating to farm life! You and Herc will be friends one day, he just has to be ready to allow you to be part of his family... kinda akin to blended families with several children, it takes time for everyone to merge into a cohesive family. in addition, Herc seeing you interact with his goats should help with his acceptance of you. Slow and steady behavior is the best way for certain! I saw several tell about fast, big arm movements, and it's true! Showing teeth is too! Looking forward to future encounters!
Matt I saw you over at your brother's site driving the tractor watering his cattle. I thought if I had been on the tractor & the longhorns were moving around tossing & waving their long horns about I think my pants may have become a bit moist if you gather what I meant? You were brave & did a great job. I enjoy watching you help each of your brothers & Dad on their farms.
