One thing people are not realizing is the permissions themselves. You screw this up. there is no going back at all, not unless a fresh reinstall and when it breaks it breaks. Windows permissions on in itself, is a mess. This is also the reason why things breaks too, including windows updates breaking stuff.

Unfortunately, MS has lost a lot of social trust with its telemtry, flup, and forced updates, which I think leads the ignorant to believe a hoaxer over an MS system message.

I worked as an IT back in the Windows 98 days. Hard drives were a lot smaller then and a woman in the office needed more space. So she deleted every file that wasn't a .doc file. She had a bad habit of shutting down the computer by pushing the power button on the power strip too. She performed her delete party at the end of the day on Friday, so first thing Monday morning she was calling me because her computer wouldn't boot up. I had to remove her hard drive and copy the files to another system to save them then completely rebuild her system. This time, I gave her child level access to the system so all she even saw was her files and nothing else. If you don't know what you're doing with a computer, ask. Most people that do know are happy to help, provided you listen and learn. But TikTok is NOT the place to look for help. People like Liron here, and other places where computer enthusiasts are is where you should be looking.

Yup, knowing what is nonsense computer advice is a valuable skill, so thanks for posting this. There is a lot of terrible tech advice out there. When I did tech support sometimes I would research a problem on the Internet. I had a client see me doing this once and they were angry, saying I'm not paying you to do something I could have done. I showed them the results of my search and asked him which of these results were technically sound and which were nonsense, and of course, he didn't know. I said you pay me to fix things and if someone has already figured out this problem then why would I take a lot of time you are paying for to re-invent the wheel, so to speak, when I could use the fix described. The difference is that as an expert I know which answer is probably correct and which isn't, and can adapt what is in the fix to the particular situation I was facing. Anyway, I'm out of tech support for good now and I don't miss it at all, although if my family complains about how something won't print I will still get a spike in frustration because I'd gladly go the rest of my life not hearing about how finicky printers can be.

@@LironSegev This encounter happened after I left my job as Systems Administrator for the Faculty of Business for Simon Fraser University in Vancouver, BC, and started my own business. My client knew my background and yet still hovered over me like I was some noob. But they came around after incidents like this as I educated them on why things were done like they were by experts. I think a lot of people seem to question tech experts more than they would a doctor or such precisely because they can dabble in it so they think they know more than they do. But it did try my patience. Anyway, I eventually became a technical writer so I stopped being on the front lines of tech support and my mental health immediately got better....

Even those with a base understanding of computers will always do quite a bit of research first. Example: It is better not to install updates that are not necessary. Sometimes those new updates cause problems and you're not always able to go back to a restore point either if it's a specific type of update. It is better to wait. I know even now there is an update that error codes for Windows 10 users. The resolve offered involves messing with your harddrive partitions. It is better to wait for Microsoft to fix their goofup and simply let it continue to error code until there is a fix for it. The solution given in different forums does not guarantee a fix. The only true fix is Microsoft fixing it with a proper update. You really don't want to mess with things like partitions and the like unless you're sure of what you're doing.

@happycows
@happycows 3 месяца назад
😂❤👍 It depends. That is a last resort. Even so, a pc cannot be fixed in all cases by just reinstalling Windows 11 or even formatting your harddrive. It depends on the situation. Some computers cannot even be upgraded to Windows 11 due to the motherboard having no TPM chip. Although if your motherboard has a slot for a TPM then it could be installed and then Windows 11 installed after the fact.
@GregNickoloff
@GregNickoloff 2 месяца назад
@@happycows Say what?
@happycows
@happycows 2 месяца назад
The TPM is a security chip. Unfortunately if a motherboard doesn't have that chip it will not let you update to Windows 11. It has something to do with the security required for Windows 11. Basically, after support stops for windows 10 people will have a nice typewriter to use offline. I think support ends around 2026, but don't quote me on it. I say this because in regards to security Microsoft doesn't give the security updates after a certain point which makes a system more vulnerable to security threats. This is one thing I despise about Microsoft. It might be worth looking at installing a different operating system like Linux at that point. I can't justify spending money on anything if I can still make use of something, even if it ends up being a glorified typewriter.

It's pretty much a sign of how widespread "delete System32" stuff has been for over twenty years that Windows restricts your ability to do so by default.

Also, a very important information! When you're in any game, at the most crucial moment of the game, always make sure to press Alt+F4. It will improve the game in all aspects just for the most epic effect ever.

I made a mistake years ago with Win95 computer, I was trying to make it run faster so thought if I could just delete unnecessary files that would help, but some of those files I didn't know what their function was so lesson learned - if you don't know what it goes to DON'T DELETE, its best just to ignore it.

@LironSegev . Hi their I have been watching your work for years. Can I ask a question because there appear to be so many different opinions and they very from one person to the next. I get 500mbs from my ISP. Absolutely no problem, it's fibre broadband, so my question is the very minute I turn on my VPN it can drop down on average to 200mbs. Turn off the VPN and it's back to 500mbs. I live in Ireland, and it doesn't matter if I use an Irish server on VPN or use the USA. The speed will come in around 200mbs. This isn't one of the free VPN. Would you know what is going on here ? I did watch your video on getting rid of VPNs. But it's something I feel stops targeting adds ect at me. Ireland is part of the European Union and it just maybe something worth mentioning. Also, I also use Cat6 from the router to my device ? Keep up the brilliant work

I remember in the early 200s, a version of Norton's Windows repair and maintenance program notoriously deleted a vital part of Windows. I don't recall if it was a system32 file, but Windows couldn't operate properly without the file. Fortunately, back then we could just copy the file back over from a back-up copy of Windows. (I kept a direct image of the installation).

HI Liron.. I have windows 7 32 bit.. with 4 gb ram.. is there any way to upgrade ram to 10 gb? I have installed 10gb but pc says only 4 is usable ?
@LironSegev
@LironSegev 3 месяца назад
hmmm it would depend on the motherboard you have in that computer. Typically its 8 or 16 GB. Take it into your local tech store and ask what they can do. You can't just buy RAM and hope it works - it has to be compatible

I'm only 17 seconds into this video, and I was about to fall out of my chair laughing. I remember back in the 2000s, there was a rage about how a system file had, for some strange reason, the icon of a teddy bear or some such. It was claimed to be a virus, and needed to be deleted. None the less, if deleted, it would eventually be needed, and then you were screwed in all matters of ways.
