As another Louisianian, I hate that our state is just lumped in with the rest of the deep south. I mean, yes, much of the state really is like that, but much of it is massively culturally distinct from the rest of the country.

Mountain roads and feeling minutes closer to death? Let me tell you about the Rocky Mountains. I once drove on US-191, between Cliffton and Springerville. This is not a road to go fast on. It has about 460 turns and is constantly going up and down hill. There are switchbacks that start within switchbacks. Hairpin turns with a hill before and after the turn, limiting what you can see ahead. The lanes are narrow (road from 1927, originally an Arizona state highway) and often are right against the edge of the mountain, so you have rock on one side and a cliff on the other. Oh, and my favorite part: There are no guardrails. The speed limit is usually below 25 miles per hour, often as low as 10 in certain places. The lowest I saw was 5. Absolutely stunning view of the Mogollon Rim, though. Sure, it takes about 6 hours to travel 200ish miles, but I think it is worth doing. Also, you will become a skilled mountain driver if you can manage to not go off the cliff while driving on this road. I was almost sixteen (so, late fifteen) at the time I drove on US-191. I had an instruction permit, but was not a licensed driver. I also had never driven on a mountain road before. I did not know it would be so treacherous when I planned the trip. I like going to interesting (and often middle-of-nowhere) places, and this area seemed good. I did just fine, and I was never scared while on the road. The horse that was standing in the middle of the road at one point was a little concerning, however.

Dear lord I would love that weather. Shoveling the snow constantly would be a pain but I would love the negative degree temperature to death. The cold is absolutely awesome and to be perfectly honest I think I'm more viking then the rest of my family cause everyone else wears the thickest jackets they have while I'm here in a t-shirt and sweats.

@@rolegt8515 I’ll wear a jacket usually if either it’s dark outside or wind. But if it holds steady at a comfortably 20F with extremely Light wind and it’s sunny, T-Shirts all the way. It’s not the cold, it’s the wind chill that’ll get you. I’m not too sure of my family’s genetics (everywhere Europe mix), but I got more of the Scandinavian and Slavic genes than most of my siblings. Just means I don’t do heat.

There's a very sharp north/south divide on the pronunciation. There's also like a dozen distinct dialects of english unique to those mountains.
