I had this LP back in the 80s... funny that it didn't resonate too much until I hear it here. It's very prog... some odd time signature stuff here and there perhaps? Beautiful chorus...
This is one of my favorite songs. I’m glad you got to hear it. Try N.E.O. by him as well, it’s VERY different. And find the video too if you can, it was cutting edge for 1994
"Gate to the Mind's Eye" was the movie that video is from. An early CGI masterpiece with all music by him. Another song from the movie is "Valley of the Mind's Eye".
Another song that has strong Buggles/Trevor Horn overtones. This was a great era for sophisticated pop music, when there were still good songwriters and real musicians involved, before Michael Jackson and Madonna and Big Name Producers and drum machines came along and f-ed it all up. If y'all know what I mean. 😉 Rick Beato posted a hilarious video on his channel a while back about "the most complex pop song ever" and it was a Cynthia Weill/Barry Mann song from 1982 called "Never Gonna Let You Go" (it was apparently offered to Earth Wind & Fire, but they declined and it went to Sergio Mendes instead.) Rick's point was that in 1982 something with an insane number of changes and key modulations used to pass for everyday pop music, which could NEVER happen today. LOL about dumbing down to get the Grammy. No shit.
@@JustinPanarielloNah, I'm with yes_head (great name). I grew up in the 80's, when MJ was just everywhere: he effectively ruined my childhood - and he only had to touch me with his VOICE. That creeky, stringy, annoying-as-hell voice, that haunts my nightmares. The guy sucks on every level and should never be left alone. I'm an atheist, but I would gladly go to hell, if I could see MJ burn. Got it?
The album “Astronauts and Heretics” is fabulous and much more sophisticated. Then try “The Flat Earth”, you’ll be impressed by them; they are way better.
