My dad was in the 147th combat engineers, 6th engineers special brigade when he landed on omaha beach the morning of d-day. He was in the coast guard LCI (L) US 91. It hit a mine and ended up (according to what I've read online) on dog white. He passed 4-1-2013. Damn I miss that generation. I put a flag on his grave every june 6th. Thanks dad, you are a true hero.

My dad was a veteran of the USAF. When he first enlisted, it was the US Army Air Corps. He never talked about his jobs very often. I remember him saying that he spent some time working as a drill instructor. He also worked as a mechanic and an airplane mechanic. He had assignments in Tripoli, Yuma, and Korea. There may have been others early on; but, these are the ones I remember him talking about. He was in Korea when I was born and I think that's where he was when he worked as an air plane mechanic. My dad retired from the USAF in 1964 with the rank of Master Sergeant. I really don't remember him being any other rank. I heard Thomas Wagner mention Southamptom. When my dad got orders to go to England in the late 1950s, he took us with him. We left New York Harbor on an ocean liner. Southamptom was the port in England where we landed. It seemed like we were on the ocean at least a couple of weeks; but, it might have been 10 days. England had some pretty countryside; but, really curvy roads. Since my dad was an NCO, he and my mom sometimes had to go to functions where the children couldn't go to. So, we had to have sitters. One of the sitters was an airman that worked with my dad. He taught me how to color with crayons in a way that didn't leave scribble lines. I don't remember his name. I would have liked having a sitter like him for my own kids. Thanks for sharing the video, Larry.
