Happy Halloween!
Little experiment we got here: many have said that the HiT era episodes suffered from being too long. I'm doing the inverse that Series 5 would've benefited from a longer runtime by combining "Oliver's Find" with "Stepney Gets Lost".
I love both episodes, but they have roughly the same plot of an engine taking a wrong turn -- they even use the same set of points -- with different results. I've never liked the idea that Stepney is owned by the Fat Controller, so I had Oliver take the plot.
Full disclosure -- somebody years and years ago had an idea like this, but I couldn't find it anywhere. So yeah, if you recognize this as something you wrote over fifteen years ago (at least), then give me a shout lol

It was good to have Oliver to replace Stepney. Also for BoCo to mention Arry and Bert’s names. Arry and Bert were not named at all in the only episode in series 5 and weren’t properly known and introduced until Series 6.

I would wish they made a Oliver version of Stepney Gets Lost. I would’ve had Oliver end up back in the Other Railway where he started after getting lost in the fog on the main line for some reason. He’ll think he’s in Vicarstown by accident but really on the mainland! He would be in the scrapyards there and his crew would look for help. Oliver was alone but not for long. Some diesels, a Class 40, two Class 08’s, a Class 20, a Class 52, and a Class 42 with a hydraulic claw all would capture Oliver.

Spooktacular adaptation! I love both Stepney Gets Lost and Oliver's Find, but I admire the way you combined these episodes into one (like with rhydyronen's take on Make Someone Happy), especially since Oliver had a bad history with scrap beforehand during his daring escape and it would've been perfect for him in Stepney's place. Imagine both A Big Surprise for Percy and Busy Going Backwards combined as one episode (since they both shared the same real incident basis during David Maidment's time as a worker in Wales).

This could also work as ''Percy Gets Lost'' as he is timid and gets scared easily. Maybe start it off with 'Percy The Small Engine works closely with his best friend Thomas' and the Fat Controller saying ''Thomas tells me you're in need of change'' perhaps? And then at the end, ''Saving steam engines from scrap is getting to be a habit Percy, please stop it'' and Percy saying ''Sodor Forever''?

I share your opinion on some of Seasons 5-7 episodes suffering from the 4:30 runtime maybe rewrite “Middle Engine”, “Rusty saves the day”, “The Spotless Record”, “What’s the matter with Henry”, or “The Old Bridge” to 7 minutes.

That was very impressive! Though It would have been more enjoyable if Oliver had Stepney's role in Stepney Gets Lost (and I picture Oliver having Rusty's role in Rusty to the Rescue).

Why do you think Oliver would be in Rusty's role for RTTR as opposed to maybe another diesel like BoCo? As a sidings and inspection diesel? Just curious.

@@tesha9138 Well, everyone has been saying that the Narrow Gauge Line running to the Other Railway doesn't make sense and it would be a very long journey for Rusty to travel there.
