Yes, the 90’s HW was lit also. The buzz and Hype around all those huge matchups at all the weight classes, society seemed happier, and these big fight nights, when I watched it felt like I was in Vegas whenever the ring announcers introduced the fighters. The World is a different place now, i’m always grateful to have been able to experience what it was like to live in that era.

And a lot of those champions got screwed over by their promoters/managers and ended up penniless & punch drunk too. Not to mention having to deal with organized crime. So what did all that willingness to fight anywhere, anytime really get them?

right. The best did both. Tommy was a very fluid Boxer. He Boxed beautifully. He had that "Float".When it came time to planting his feet and banging, he had that too. It was his Heart that was ultimately his own double edged sword. If Tommy refrained from Firefights and kept guys like Marvin and Ray on the end of that stick and Boxed it may have served him well. Hell of a Fighter and personality. A Good Guy. I met him in Bullocks in Beverly Hills shopping one day/. Rolls Royce and 2 very Big Fellows by his side. Tommy dressed in all brown silk with Gold Chains and Watch. I wasn't an Autograph Hound and never made a fuss around the talent, but i asked Tommy for his very nicely. An intimidating presence to say the least but all class. I'm glad i never had to fight or even spar with him..

Training to fight Tommy Hearns so you train to counter a guy boxing long, being careful of the straight right hand in particular etc. The genius Emmanuel Steward has Hearns instead practising looping inside shots -- shots that he can still put that long frame into but shots that the opponents aren't really training for. Hearns was an absolute weapon of a man and trained by a genius.

Kenpo gloves lol I wear them for training myself but I never knew Tommy used them. As a boxing trainer it allows me to use my hands without having to take of gloves all the time. In my day of fighting and all the way back actually we were taught to keep an open hand until impact so these gloves allow you to keep open fist easier than todays gloves which no longer use horsehair but modern foams which make gloves tighter and harder to relax hands. Great catch on your part

they try tell me legends never hit pads
@SPIDERM0OSE
@SPIDERM0OSE 4 месяца назад
Who tries to tell you that ?! The difference is in HOW they hit pads. Pads were used to polish SPECIFIC combinations & sequences that the coach identified would work on a SPECIFIC opponent. They DIDNT hit pads for the cameras like Mayweather does & they didnt hit pads for a cardio workout, they used the pade to polish fight specific technique & tactics, So if anyone who knows anything says they didnt hit pads back in the day, thats what they mean, they didnt hit pads for fun.

@@BullWorld777 They operated at a more intense, more unforgiving level. They didn't mess around or play about, everything was measured & everything they did was for a reason & that reason was ... MONEY. Not everybody made enough from the sport to retire & live comfortably on, like even journeymen can today. It was cut throat & only the best of the best held titles & only the best of the best title holders made the BIG bucks. If they weren't training for a specific opponent the coach would take em on the pads to work on something he saw they were slippin on or were weak at. If everything was ticking along nicely there was no need to use em so they wouldn't, they would work on something else instead.

Wilder but with a much higher skill level than Wilder has ever had. At 6’2” with a 78” reach he was taller and longer than most all of his opponents. Other than his losses vs SRL and Hagler the rest could be from staying in the game too long and or moving up in weight classes too quickly. Probably my favorite Boxer ever.
