If only Mattel understood this video. Problem is the real panic from the collapsed share price has them short on more then good ideas. Last year Hasbro had attempt 1 at buying out Mattel. I expect attempt 2 is coming very soon. If we are really lucky Tomy will grab the franchise and save the Thomas empire. But not even Tomy could save Chuggers, and that worries me.
I’ve been saying this for a while now: “Japan gets all the good stuff.” Edit: He predicted that toysrus would be bankrupt. Maybe it won’t take 5 years.
My parents sold the wooden line in the late 90s/early 2000s before it went to big chain stores. Kinda went downhill after Britt Alcroft sold the brand.
Thomas merchandise was so much better when I was a kid. We had the Ertl diecast models, and they were AWESOME. They made, like, every character. Though I'm glad they did away with the stick-on faces and went for the 3D ones. You know, this decline in Thomas merchandise is very similar to the recent decline in Star Wars merchandise. The problem? Well, besides quality, it's quantity. Oversaturation.
This video definitely sums up my view on Thomas merch over the years growing up. Seeing the new toys now really disappoint me, they don't make dem like they used to. I miss Take Along/Learning Curve and Tomy. The classics will always be better than what we have now. Glad I still got my old sets but dang these new ones look terrible😂. And I hate those midget versions of them.
"Now you can buy some TOMY engines today!" we have: 1.Duck the Great Western engine 2.Donald 3.Douglas 4.Oliver the Great Western engine 5.Lady 6.Splatter and Dodge 7.Murdoch 8.Stepney 9.Skarloey 10.BoCo 11.Sir Handel 12.Bill the tank engine twin 13.Ben the tank engine twin 14.Mavis 15.Harvey 16.Arthur 17.Rosie 18.Molly 19.Neville 20.Rusty 21.Duncan
I actually used to own half of these as a younger kid: Lady, Arthur, both Bill and Ben, Splatter (I didn't have Dodge at the time, but when I did get Dodge a year or two later,I lost Splatter), Murdoch, Neville, and Duck. Nowadays, most of these are rare. I'll probably never be able to get these ever again... I do have Sir Handel and Skarloey, except they're TrackMaster models, so those probably don't count.
1:02 - 1:05 Am I wrong, or are those almost comparable in size to the old Ertl miniature Thomas playset trains of the 90s? (God, if I had the excess dough, I'd buy one of every piece of those, to replace the broken ones I played with over and over as a kid... XD )
Who here likes the trackmaster line, I grew up with the line through out my childhood and replacing that and making ANOTHER LINE is annoying making all your trains and money spent useless so now you get to beg your dad to waste 1,000 more dollars total on another line forever and ever until you get a job. And My trackmaster trains don't work well with the new line. Wut trainline went through 2012 or something. Idk
Didn't Tomy originally create trackmaster ? I'm not some adult Thomas fan or anything but I swear when trackmaster first came out around 2008-ish it was still branded Tomy, at least in the UK
Mattel Employee: Also put all of your effort into Jurassic World because it's lit. All in one scale. No bullet holes. Great sculpts. Paint Jobs that aren't shit.
I must say.... My little cousin has all of this. Including the super station thingy. Also 2 train tables..... I had about 900 dollars worth of thomas toys and 100 worth of tracks...
