A complete playthrough of the finished prototype of THQ's 1993
unreleased NES game, Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends.
This was quite the entertaining experience, and one of shockingly high quality for THQ (especially because it's a kids game). It's edutainment, so you have to cut it some slack, but for an elementary schooler, this would have been pretty awesome.
It's mostly comprised of mini-games that pad out three full stories that show up at the end of each lap around the area. The graphics are really colorful and don't look particularly limited by the (in 1993) badly aging NES hardware, the sound is excessively cheerful and chirpy in the way that only Brits can nail (sounding like C64 SID), and it's comically mean-spirited at certain moments.
It's quite the novelty, hope you enjoy it! I particularly liked the bit with the crashed train wearing a rather morose expression.
If you'd like to see the SNES version that actually saw a commercial release (and is pretty much identical to this one), check it out here: • Thomas the Tank Engine...
