On a 4 hour horrific small commercial plane ride in bad weather with heavy turbulance from Portland, ME to Newark, NJ I happened to have the lyrics to this Thomas Whitfield wonder which I softly sang again and again. Not a soul on board told me to pipe down. I strongly believe these Words brought us all safely back to Earth. I am forever greatful Mr. Whitfield.
Even to this day, Thomas Whitfield is still The Maestro! Today's hottest musician, especially keyboard players are playing with some Thomas Whitfield influence ...... and that's perfectly fine. It's a tribute to The Maestro!
I wish we were not afraid to talk about obesity and weight. I wish the church didn't think GOD WOULD SAVE US from our eating patterns of death, if we did then this man would still be alive.
Everything was flawless. The music, lyrics and the vocals ect. Thomas was truly gifted. Nothing against music today but Thomas,Edwin Hawkins and Douglass Miller gave us some of the best there is from the late 80’s through the 90’s hands down.
Oh Hallelujah!! I LOVE>>LOVE this song!! It's one of my favorites of all time!! Min.Thomas Whitfield was an awesome songwriter, and music minister!! MANY musicians, and choirs are STILL doing his music!! true sign of classic!!
OH, HALLELUJAH!! My groove riiiight there! Really wish these musical geniuses like Thomas Whitfield, O'landa Draper, James Moore and James Cleveland were still alive :( Such talent....God rest their souls...
They don't write songs like this that focus on how awesome our Lord&Savior Jesus Christ is! Nowadays song writers talk so much about their struggle, what I'm going through. Psa118:15 "Songs of joy and victory are sung in the camp of the Godly"!!!!
Exceptional and unique in every aspect. The quality of the composition sets Thomas Whitfield in a category where few gospel musicians have achieved. His composition and choral arrangements were far ahead of their time.
What such a gift to the body of Christ. He was such a nice man when I first met him in 1989 and took time to impart into me. Maestro, you're missed but not forgotten
OMG, I so remember this. My dad used to play this when I was so young. Today is the first time in in over a decade that I've heard this song. Wow, thanks for posting, bringing back so many great memories. This is def good music!!!!
Isn't this Bishop Paul Morton's sister singing? Can't find THIS sound and quality of music, lyrics, and vocals hardly anymore! Sooooo far beyond T.W.'s time. Unparalleled and unprecedented!
I just spent a hour looking for the title of this album again and that instrumental at the end I couldn't remember the artist it's been forever me being a teenage drummer and all.. omg that sound at the time was so funky and new that choir and arrangement hats off to whoever uploaded this❤❤
Dr. Maurice Culpepper taught us this song. "The Showers of Blessings gospel choir. We did so many Whitfield songs. Taking me Back, forever will I love Cathedral of Faith C.O.G.I.C R.I.H..Maurice Culpepper
You can tell by this choir's powerful and vocal dynamics, O'landa Draper pinched a great deal off Thomas Whitfield. Draper even recognized Whitfield on his last album "Reflections" in his acknowledgements.
@PastorKeithron Oh man I Just discovered this Album in jan ,im really intrigued with him and his style , i just bought And They Sang ..A Hymn 1989, he was a Legend , its so jazzy u r blessed to have been able to see him all i can say is OFT TIMES AND WONDERS!!!
@PastorKeithron Its so jazzy the chords and arr, are pure gold , the Grammy nominated Debuts he did for Vanessa's "Peace Be Still 1983" " Chosen" 1984 and Yolanda Adams " Just As I Am" 1987 so clean and on point im very young but his music is like my style and their arent many ppl out here like this anymore
@Lifeducation she is saying Jesus Lord is very God LOL it does sound like fairy but we used to do this one back in the day. This was recorded at my old church... St. Paul Life and Praise Church, Detroit Mi....holla I love this song... I am just upset that some older stuff aint on here.
@TheDefjams Yeah... I am so glad that I got to meet him. I had the opportunity to play drums at church while he played and that was an honor and horrifying. LOL I am always amazed at how his music dating back to almost the 70's could actually be played on the radio today and be better in most cases. It is also nice to hear his influence on Kurt Karr, Kirk Franklin and so many others. Gospel music today would not be if not for him. and many people agree.
i thought she was saying fairy God too, don't feel bad lol!!! i love the live version of this, the director cracks me up, beautiful song!!!! "and changing my nights into day"
@tkrich1116 ...I believe that this sophistication, richness and depth has to be earned. I don't mean it can be purchased by works, but more so, there is a personal price to pay or sacrifice from within. This is rare if it exists at all anymore. And, maybe that is why we are not gifted with this quality of emotional/ spiritual music that makes such a powerful sense of connection. Thanks for posting the song.
@TheDefjams I think you are right... this particular one may have been studio... after looking at the cover i realized i am speaking of the wrong CD. HIs last CD was done at my church... if you look at the cover you will notice that there is a musicians pit in it. Or if you see a video from that night you will see it. That was my old church in Detroit. At the time Pastor T J Hemphill. The funeral was also held at my church and everyone was there. He will really be missed.
