JMS run on Thor was my introduction to the character. As someone who never really cared about Thor(I like him a lot now due to loving mythologies and larger than life gods and heroes) and JMS really grounded Thor. Literally in the setting but also delved into the human side of Thor, focusing on his god status and its relation to mortals. I can absolutely see why the first Thor movie borrowed a lot from this run(still the best Thor film. Love and Thunder can suck it.) with the small town elements. All in all, if there is ONE run of Thor or Omnibus you should pick it; it's this one. JMS did wonders on Spider-Man and also Thor. And also, if you haven't seen Babylon 5, WATCH IT. The best Sci-fi series ever made. Not even close.
This was my first Thor run. Sad that JMS left and all the drama involved that but Gillen did a great job as a continuation. Makes sense that it was combined.
I ordered this from Organic Prices Books. With the way DMs are selling out I wanted to make sure I got it since this is my most wanted Omni of the year.
Was hoping someone else noticed that! The Mjolnir on the standard cover goes really well with the design of the Jason Aaron omnis imo, so it was a hard choice. But that lightning bolt sold me.
Thank you for the overview Omar! Super excited for this. Super excited for the Cates one next year. Super excited for when Immortal Thor By Ewing gets the omni treatment. My Thor collection will be perfect! Take care and peace everyone.
I can’t wait, I can’t wait, I CAN’T WAIT ! I had goosebumps watching this overview bro. This is gonna be a great gap filler. Loved both of these guys runs. Thor is getting alot of omnilove and I am glad. Love the way they mapped these issues too. I’m so excited ! Amazing overview as usual bro ! 🤘🏾⚡️
Can’t wait. One of my favorite runs of all time. And like you said, Thor was dead for like 3 years at the time!!! What a great welcome back and done right!
Man Thor was my mom’s favorite comic character. I remember getting her the trade of vol 1 of this series and her telling me how she read the Mighty Thor as a kid. This is why I love reading comics because I get to remember my parents stories and experiences from their time reading comics. Great overview brother.
I forget, remind me - What term did we arrive on to describe that moment you slide a missing omni into the shelf gap that brings such strong feelings of completeness and satisfaction? (At 04:30 )? Was it slidisfaction? 🤔
I would totally get this if I didn't already have the original JMS Thor Omni and two amazing custom Gillen Omnis that include all of his work on in Thor and Journey into Mystery.
The red Marvel Omnibus section of the spine is driving me nuts now it's on my shelf with the others. Why did they have to make it bigger so it looks misaligned? :(
I bought the original omnibus of this but then had to get to Gillen TPB and Siege HC to continue the story. Would consider upgrading if there’s a significant sale. Hate double dipping the same material. Means I have to sell stuff.
Jurgens through Cates we'll have ny end of the year. Now Thor is rhe best modern collected in omnibus format. DD is missing a few issues in rhe Bendis omnibus that BMB didn't write, plus Ninja. Missing the McKay DD miniseries too.
Where is the Milligan annual placed? Also, the Milligan story from Dark Reign: The Cabal and BMB's Siege Prologue didn't seem to be included right before Siege #1, unless I missed it? The Dark Reign one is listed in the credits at the start, at least, but the other one is not. And from your showing the book seems to skip from Thor #606 to Siege #1. Is that right?
what am I going to do with HC polish version of Straczynski's run, Gillen's SC Complete Collection and four issues of Siege from some PANINI Marvel collection :P ?@@JennySparkz
@CarlosDias-er6dd The Simsonson material is excellent BUT keep in mind, they recolored a lot of those issues. If you do not like that, I'd avoid it. Personally, JMS run is my favorite, with Simonson's coming a close second. You won't go wrong securing this Omnibus because it's really great content wise.
Simonson by far for me. JMS starts interestingly with the gradual rebirth of the Asgardians, but soon spends as much time in greasy spoon diners in Oklahoma as Simonson did in proper Asgard and the various fantastical realms and events. Plus the art in the JMS run is pretty mixed, Thor frequently looks really overweight instead of muscular. The couple of issues that Marko Djurdjevic did look great, though.
I have a $100 gift card to Barnes and Noble. Which omnibus should I get or preorder? I really wanted volume 1 of Captain America by Ed Brubaker but it’s out of stock... What would you recommend?
Hmmm, i was just wanting the Gillen omnibus… I already have the Strazyncski half in the first omnibus. What to do... I'm also missing Wicked vol.4, lol!
Looking forward to having this in my collection and having an uninterrupted Thor run from Jurgens through Aaron! I do wish they’d reveal the spines at the same time as they reveal the covers though. Now I have to try and change my preorder to avoid that wraparound image
Not sure I will get my dm pre-order and paid for copy of this omnibus. Shipping damages and low print run inventories make getting these books tricky. Seems like ordering a book months in advance is not a guarantee anymore.
I read all Thor from Dan Jurgens to Jason Aaron and some of Donny Cates' run, IMO this is the last great Thor run, as all other runs beyond it just focus on trashing the characters instead of building them up. Matt Fraction's run is just focused on resetting stuff for Fear Itself and move things around for a bit like the "new Asgard" but beyond that it's dull and retcons a LOT of stuff like Odin's personality. Jason Aaron's run does God Butcher pretty good but beyond that it's not all that good beyond the art.
I'm one of the people who didn't like the nee character design. The custome is not as bad, but we should be able to see those arms! I also don't like how sometimes he looks fat. That face is also too weird.
😂 i would never call Copiel one of my favorite artists and yep his faces can sometimes be "iffy" but I LOVED the redesigned costume and for some reason Copiel's art just "enhanced" the, The epicness of this run.
