I think its not a time loop, Atreus puts the giant soul into the Snake, grows up to become Jorg that shows up at Ragnarok and then gets hit back in time and grows old to become the one in the previous game and doesn't show up at Ragnarok and chills in Midgard. He only gets sent back once

What people are getting confused with is this new born jormandr grows up fast and is young. He fights thor in ragnarok and gets sent back in time to nearly the beginning of the norse world then grows older in midgard and then meets atreus and kratos in 2018 god of war. Then the cycles continues

soooo let me get this straight the world serpent in the final battle of ragnorok was the younger version that just had a growth spurt, and the one that we saw in the last GOW (2018) was that same serpent but much older

Jormangandr from the first game is still in Midgard while Ragnorak is happening. It was already there in Asgard fighting with Thor while General Kratos and his army matched to Asgard.

Kratos literally says “it looks different” and Atreus says “it sort of is” meaning that the world serpent that showed up in ragnarock wasn’t the one kratos knew from 2018. This implies that the world serpent we saw fighting Thor is the new world serpent, who gets sent back in time to grow and help Atreus.

They left out the part where the girl tells Loki the snake is growing real big and Loki says he know because he knew that the python would become Jorg.

Its not a loop - Serpent borns - fight against thor - travel through time - lives in midgard and meet atreus and kratos - stay in midgard no Loop

So, Atreus and Angrboda "birth" Jormangadr by placing a giant's soul into a serpent. Jormangandr slithers off to who knows where to start juicing. Ragnarok happens and Jormangandr fights Thor, recognizing him as a giant killer, get yeeted who know how long into the past. He finds himself in Midgard and decides to grow some algae beard. He gets to show off the left overs from his salad sitting on his lip when Dad of Boy, Boy and Head get his attention in GOW:PS4. Old Snake sees Boy and somewhat recognizes him, but since its a younger "Father" and 100s of years (probably) he doesn't know who this is. We jump to GOW:R and Old Snake is chilling in Midgard. In the mean time Atreus finds the serpent and give its the steroids soul to juice on. After Ragnarok Old Snake is still in Midgard, while the young Jormangandr is sent back in time to eventually live through Ragnarok by staying in Midgard. No time loop, no alternate time line/realities, just the single self contained timeline.

The moment jormangandar got sent back to the past he want no business in the affairs of Ragnarok, hence why he tells atraeus to go find ironwood.

Why is everyone saying it's not a loop? It is! Jorg gets sent back to Gow 2018 where he helps Kratos and Atreus, so then time passes and they participate in Ragnarok, where the "new born" Jorg gets hit by Thor and gets sent in the past, just to help Kratos and Atreus again. Therefore, we can say that, at some point of Gow Ragnarok, there are two Jormungandrs alive, one from the past, and the other one that was just born by Arteus and Abgrboda (which is the one we see during Ragnarok)

Wonder if Thor knocking Jormungandr back in time was due to a quirk of Ragnarok or perhaps an ace up his sleeve he only uses in desperate circumstances.

It’s easy to break down really, put it this way: You are born, become a giant, fight in ragnarok, get sent back in time to a point before you are born. You grow old and bigger, meet Atreus and tell him where you are in the current timeline, he goes off to find “you” whilst you chill out and continue to grow old. The “you” in the current timeline, becomes a giant, fights in ragnarok etc etc 😂

timeline: young original snake gets clapped to the past > see Kratos > tell Loki about his young self > go to sleep in Midgard > Loki give young snake souls > get big and join the war > get clapped to the past > repeat

Yes there were 2 jorgs existing at the same time but only for a short period.

The main thing I'm confused about is how in the world is Thor able to send the World Serpent back in time?? Is that something Thor can casually do? If Thor really cared about protecting Asgard, he would send Kratos and Atreus back in time too if he needed to win.

One amazing detail that some people haven’t knowtist 2018 GOW when we first meet the serpent and throws kratos axe back to the boat u can see it says in the side that u got poison in the axe and in the normal time Thor dies by the world serpent blood and kratos cuts Thor and that cut being there through the whole game or maybe he can’t cure himself

Why are people confused on this. It's very simple. The snake was was born in ironwood grew really big really fast got to raganarok (probably from a Fenrir tear in reality. He got knocked back hundred of years before gow 2018 where he went from really big to the world serpent. Mimir was stuck in the tree for 100 plus winters till kratos freed him and Mimir and the serpent already had a bond. The snake was living in Midgard for hundreds of years after he got sent through time by Thor. He completes his time loop but telling Loki about ironwood which is how he is created. Then Loki finds ironwood and brings jorm to life. And the time loop begins agains. Literally no holes in this. It's a loop through and through.

It's pretty simple, theres only 2 jorgs for the time that atreus put the soul into him until ragnarok, then that jorg gets sent back to help loki and thor so loki can once again put his soul into the snake

It's essentially a stable time loop which proves that Kratos & Atreus DO win & change Ragnarok. What Odin prothecised was wrong because he was lied to about thenprothecy. Essentially this us Jor's life: -Atreus puts soul in dead snake & it wakes (basically as a son of Loki) -The snake begins to rapidly grow & get stronger. Once the gates are open he joins the war effort because his "father" is there. -Thor hits him so hard he is sent back in time. Flooding & desolation the land of Midgard. -After years of waiting for something he meets Atreus but younger. He has (seemed) to put everything together & sides his "father" & "grandfather". -He goes into hibernation during Fimblewinter, being woken by Atreus & Sindri for help but ops to stay out of the fight because he knows that his younger self will get involved & be sent back to live out the next years of his life. -Jor basically retires hoping that Ragnarok goes well. He bet on the right horse it seems.

Yet, while he is chilling in Midgard and sitting ragnarok out since he experienced it as young jorm, Atreus is making young jorm again and young jorm fights in ragnarok and will get sent back again…

that scene with sindri is the 2018 Jormungandr, while in Ragnarok is the Jormungandr that Atreus revived with Angrboda

So the world serpent only fought Thor once during Ragnarok which he got sent back in time and because he could no longer fight or whatsoever then he helped Atreus to find Ironwood and he's younger self knowing fully well that he will fight Thor again and suffer the same fate.

Atreus put the soul in the snake, snake grows big because it has a giant soul, snake fights thor, Thor sends it back in time, snake continues to grow to be in 2014 version. There isn't two snakes, the snake in midgard during Ragnarok has already fought and isn't interested in the fight because he was already apart of it, not to mention then that would actually cause a huge time paradox. Like has anyone seen doctor who? imagine the weeping angels, they send you back in time to live out your days in a different time, similar thing i'd guess.

Here is the explanation: First, the old Jormundgandr saw 2018 Atreus and always stay in Midgard. Then 2022 Atreus created the newborn in Jothunheim. Then that newborn joined Ragnarok, and was knocked to the past... that newborn will grow older and eventually see 2018 Atreus again.

Since people are having troubles understanding this I'll try to explain as best I can. (TLDR at the bottom) What is: Jörgmungandr, as seen in God of War 2018 in Midgard, is a much older serpent than the one seen in Ragnarök. They are one and the same, but during Ragnarök Thor slams the beast back in time where it grows and ages. It does not appear in Ragnarök again. Time line: Jörgmungandr is a soulless serpent that was robbed by Angrboda's grandmother. Atreus received orbs with the souls of the giants which he uses to save the soulless serpent. This serpent now considered apart of the giants race, and called the last giant as well. Thanks to it's new found soul, and likely thanks to giant magic, it grows into it's gigantic size before finally appearing in Ragnarök to be slammed back into the past before it's born. TLDR: Serpent was soulless Atreus gives it a giants soul it got really big then fought Thor as revenge for the giants. It was sent back in time before it was born. It doesn't fight thor again only once when it was young.

Its not a true time loop, as the serpent isnt repeatedly sent back, but its close. To me the idea of a incomplete oroborus fits with the idea of breaking fate in the newest game.

It is not a time loop. There are 2 Giant snakes now. One is Jormungandr in Midgard chilling. The other giant snake name is not known because the giant soul atreus infuses in the dead snake, its name isn't mentioned. It could be any giant for all you know.

Its a time loop indeed, First was when god of war 2018, the world serpent was seem to recognise loki/atreus. Second, is when sindri and atreus talks to the serpent in midgard during the fimbulwinter, and hinting atreus ironwood ( then basically hibernated because of the winter ) Third is in ironwood, when loki and angrboda transfer a giant soul to a soulless snake ( this is perhaps the birth of the world serpent ) Fourth is when angrboda told loki at muspelheim when he was with thor that the snake was growing in a unimaginable size Fifth is during ragnarok, we saw thor fighting a jormungandr, but its not the world serpent at midgard, that serpent doesnt seem to have beard. After that we saw that thor's attack made the world serpent disappear. Sixth is in the aftermath of the ragnarok/postgame when we go to midgard, freya noticed that there are still tracks of the world serpent there, at that point mimir said that the blow from thor doesn't kill the jormungandr but sent it back it time. So in conclusion, the world serpent we know is in hibernation during the ragnarok, and the one who fight thor is the young one from the ironwood. And as far as we know, time always repeats itself

The simple explanation is that there are 2 Jormüngandr(s) during Ragnarok, The one in Midgard (The old one from GOW 2018) and the newly born one from Jotünheim which Atreus and Angrboda created with the giant soul. The newly born Jormüngandr is the one that appeared in Asgard and fought Thor, and was the one sent back in time, which in turn grows old into the one you see and meet in GOW 2018. So no, it is NOT a time loop since the Jormüngandr in midgard is still there.

So I understand that the old snake is still Midgard. So does the young one get transported to a parallel reality in the past? Can't be in the same reality.

Everyone is confused on how the World Serpent's loop works. In the beginning, Jorm was born because of Atreus putting the giant's soul into the empty shell of the snake, which will eventually grow up and fight Thor in Ragnarok, and gets sent back in time because of Thor, not coming back as a baby snake, but still the same condition and age as he was fighting Thor, then time past on many years and then we got the Jorm we all know and love that Kratos and Atreus met at GOW 2018 and Aided them to the land of the Giants, the one Atreus and Sindri met at 4:20 is the old Jorm that already witnessed Ragnarok, this Old Jormungandr's hatred for Thor is still intact as seen in 6:50, meanwhile, the one that was fighting Thor at Ragnarok was the younger Jorm, who will then gets sent back in time and this cycle continues. Jormungandr is different for each Ragnarok that happens, every Jormungandr only gets to witness Ragnarok once. the one thing that is on loop is the fate of every Jormungandr that will fight Thor in Ragnarok and gets sent back in time.

Not a time loop, that would imply that the same snake is traveling infinitely through time. Jorm only travels once, when he is bonked. After young Jorm leaves, old Jorm continues as the sole Jorm of the Nine Realms. It's better to just say that Jorm was born after existing, there are no parallel universes involved, nothing particularly complicated. It's not even a paradox because he isn't preventing his future existence but facilitating it.

I mean they spell it out clear as day, Thor hits the snake in the face and sends him back, the snake sees Loki again after a long time, realizes that he was the one that freed him but only the snake could tell him where to go in the later years right before the actual ragnarok, jorm was the one that allowed himself to live by telling atreus to go to ironwood, where the original snake was, old jorm does not go back, they never repeat, it’s solved in one go. With one thing time traveling and never breaking the paradox of time travel, it’s probably why the original jorm says ONE place. And nothing else, to help with the choice part of the Norse fate, which is all choice, and not actually fate. This game is deep, you need to pay attention. The story telling in this game is breathtaking.

I see people disagree with this being a time loop, but I think it is. The World Serpent is "born" because of events in Ragnarok. After being sent back in time, he helps Kratos and Atreus in their path to cause his birth again. An endless loop. Atreus and Angrboda birth the Young Serpent > Young Serpent fights Thor at Ragnarok > Sent back in time > Grows Old > Helps Young Kratos and Young Atreus (2018) > (In Ragnarok) World Serpent hibernates > Atreus and Angrboda births Young Serpent.

It's not a time loop, the Jormungandr in midgard is the one sent back in time and it's living the rest of its days there, that's the old Jormungandr, the young Jormungandr was the one loki and angrboda created and the one that fought thor, then getting sent back in time, it's 2 different Jormungandrs that exist in the same period of time, before the young one gets sent back in time, so the midgard, old Jormungandr remains

To me, it's a Loop De Loop and not a Loop. It's not a never ending beginning and end. So technically, it is NOT a Loop. I'll give you my example. This story, sets in a post-apocalyptic world where mankind is infected by zombies. In this future timeline, a man discovered Time Travel and decided to time travel back into the past, to prevent this future. So the man returned to the past, not knowing he was already bitten. Thus, causing the world to end in an apocalyptic event. This, will repeat forever, thus a loop. In the GOW Ragnarök, the Snake is born in Ironwood. Grows big and fought in Ragnarök. He was then sent back to the past hundreds of years to the past. He grows old and met Atreus. Told him to go to Ironwood while the Snake, sleeps like a baby through the winter. This, in turns, created the Snake in Ironwood. The Old Snake, sleeps through Ragnarök while the newly born Snake, fought in Ragnarök. This, is not a Loop but Loop de Loop and that's technically not a Loop. Okay?
