In the cutscene it looks like its length could be as much as a quarter of the diameter of Azeroth. In the game world itself it looks like it's only about a kilometer or so long overall, including the hilt and the part of the blade that's buried in the ground. Don't know which is supposed to be accurate lore-wise.

i think a good parallel to this is the current plan to tap into our own geothermic energy by tapping into the Mantle, but from what i heard, the dangers of that are basically that if we do it wrong, it could set off a tectonic event that would literally activate the entire world's volcanoes simultaneously and blanket the whole place in ash. cant seem to find any sources for this though.. but i know i heard it recently.... anyway, my point is, if tapping into it with a few meters thick drill could cause this, i imagine a sword of that size, ranging from what seems to be tens of meters up to 1 or several kilometers(that cutscene is so disproportionate)... well, it wouldnt be pleasant. i mean for one, the stuff on the inside of the crust is probably under pressure.. if the sword didnt have any like... openings on its sides as the thing went in, it would still be adding more volume, so... yeah, would probably cause every volcano on the world to erupt as it pushed the magma out of the way.

Kyle, in regards to the potato chip bag; if you bring a bag of potato chips somewhere high in the mountains, the gas in the bag becames a higher pressure than the air in the mountainous area and will reflat the bag, occasionally will even pop the bag depending on how high up you are and the strength of the bag itself.

How can Thanos snap with a metal glove on? That bothers me.
@cjwrench07
@cjwrench07 6 лет назад
Spider 602 It’s a custom made glove, I’m sure he ordered it with a snapping ability. Also, the sound of the snap comes from your fingered hitting the skin around the thumb, so it wouldn’t have made a sound the way it was shown.

I think it would be more a ting. Mostly because a snap just your finger hitting you palm so it just metal on metal
@Thesaurus_Rex
@Thesaurus_Rex 6 лет назад
I think they were speaking in metaphor there. They're saying he could do it in a single easy gesture, not that he would actually have to snap his fingers to do that. Unless I didn't notice an actual snapping sound in the film, in which case I can only assume that he either altered reality to also making a snapping sound, or he was snapping with his other, un-gauntleted hand as well.
@robbyhenton8038
@robbyhenton8038 6 лет назад
Spider 602 what type of qudstoln is that! He has the power and space stone by his first snap! He he just bended the metals molecules in such a way to create a snapping sound when clannged together by using the space stone to teleport the molecules. Of course he would have to snap his fingers to perform this stunt... let's forget about that lol

I've seen an actual person chop a plastic airsoft BB with an actual katana on Stan Lee's Superhumans on the History channel. It was quite impressive, being that the BB had such a smaller surface area than say a 9 mm or a .45 round.
@ancapftw9113
@ancapftw9113 6 лет назад
Rob Funkhouser only my a fraction of the velocity, though, and plastic would probably cut easier than lead.
@robfunkhouser3793
@robfunkhouser3793 6 лет назад
True, but that doesn't take away from the abilities of the person to split the round, regardless of what it's made of and in many circumstances, plastic is actually tougher than lead which I can scratch with my fingernail.
@GankbotShuk
@GankbotShuk 6 лет назад
But you're also not considering the fact that most airsoft guns fire at 400-500 fps vs a .45 averaging between 830-950 fps and a 9mm round averaging about 1200 fps. Wee bit of a speed difference. Not to mention that the bevel of the blade would have to be pretty steep to redirect the shards away from you, otherwise you're getting yourself shot twice with one round.

just makes ya wonder, what is the forge made out of that it itself doesnt melt, like the handles of the door that Thor has to hold open which are directly in the closest and hottest narrowing of the energy beam
@cjwrench07
@cjwrench07 6 лет назад
Scot Schleisman in real metal foundry, a lot of the time the metals/graphites have a lower melting point than the Casted metal. But, with proper heat management, in the forge, it doesn’t get to a point of melting.
@scotschleisman9257
@scotschleisman9257 6 лет назад
true, and my quandary is really just about what lines the apparatus of the opening. Yes, in the dead of space it may cool quickly compared to the focusing point of the beam, but (as with Thor) it is still in the way and those handles he was holding did not melt.

“Who so ever wields this hammer, should they be worthy, shall have the power of Thor.” In other words, The source of Thor’s power is still himself, but the hammer acts as a conduit for his power, and can be wielded by whoever should be worthy. And so Thor is not only a person, but also a title.
@KingdomOfDimensions
@KingdomOfDimensions 6 лет назад
Except Beta Ray Bill was the first person other than Thor who was worthy to wield the hammer, but was never conferred the title of Thor. Also, Thor was Thor's name before he had Mjolnir, so the idea of his name being a title is ridiculous.
@jerryborjon
@jerryborjon 6 лет назад
KingdomOfDimensions - Wait, why is it ridiculous? It’s just that Thor’s name became a title after too many people started being worthy. Completely reasonable.
@cjwrench07
@cjwrench07 6 лет назад
Yes, Thor has the power in himself, but it isn’t his alone. It makes more sense to mean that he was gifted the power, and others are worthy of the gift as well. Hella was given the gift initially, but it seems before the requirement of worthiness was included. It’s why she is pictured wielding the hammer in the ceiling painting. So, it isnt really a title either.

Can Groot be regrown from the handle of storm breaker? In the same manner it was done in guardians of the galaxy.
@VegetaLF7
@VegetaLF7 6 лет назад
The shard of Groot that became Groot Jr was planted shortly after Groot's death and allowed to grow. Groot Jr's arm was severed and is being used as Stormbreaker's handle. I suppose if it was planted soon enough they could, but I don't think Thor is going to lose the handle of the new super awesome weapon that he almost died to make so quickly.

about the potato chips - i work at a Jimmy John's in Colorado, and our chips are packaged and sealed at a lower altitude. when they ship them to us, the air inside the bags expands because of the pressure change. we get a lot of popped and ruined bags of chips because of this. maybe that's what they were talking about? idk.

Forging doesn’t make it sharp either. You first have to harden it, then anneal it, then sharpen it. The axe would still be very soft as they never rapidly cooled the axe material after casting.

Actually you would not anneal it as this would remove all hardness from the metal. You would instead temper it as this will retain most of the hardness while greatly increasing toughness.

The closest thing to a dyson spear would probably be a megastructure known as a shkadov thruster which is in it's simplest form a modified version of a dyson sphere (basically putting everything on one side to move the star and it's system in a specific direction). This not only makes you able to migrate your starsystem which is friggin awesome but also makes you able to focus the output of the star in a direction (kind of like starkiller base, only that the "shot" really only travels by lightspeed this time). And of course you could "ram" your star(system) into something.

I'm stocked that I made it to Footnotes. I had guessed that would happen. I had been attempting to figure the power ratios for different weapons in the Star Wars universe and the Death Star was the easiest to figure out based on the feats in the movies. And Turbo lasers are a surprising more potent than people give them credit for.

Hey Kyle, Just another note when considering how much power difference that thor standing in front of the aperture would make is that only EM radiation in the visible spectrum would be blocked, anything Higher than an Xray in the vicinity of 100kV (Typical Chest xray level) would basically pass directly through Thor. Probably lower than the 5% difference you mentioned. Love the show!

About the neutron star material: Depends on what part of the neutron star you took it from, but lets say it would be closer to the surface than the core and the hammer would "only" be as heavy as the pyramid of giza (instead of a teaspoon being that heavy already): That would still mean the hammer would expanding to the volume of the pyramid near instantly (and ripping apart) likely forming the biggest non-nuclear artificial explosion in human history.

You can do casting in a forge, and since it is quite obvious that other things have been made there, including the Destroyer, one can assume it was used as a forge more than once, so it is accurate (probably) to call it a Forge

Regarding the casting vs. forging of Storm Breaker, would not the intense gravity of the neutron star in fact have the same effect of of the power hammer in moving the material as it is cooled? Thus in effect taking a cast ingot and forging it?

It didn't happen in the movie but it is possible to cast and forge a weapon. It is possible that some (off camera) forging on Stormbreaker happened after it was cast.

Two things: Since the theme is "nit-pick you to death"; why would you wear a fake gauntlet on your right hand, in order to free your right hand for finger-snapping? Also, the difference between a cast ax and a forged ax is far more significant than "semantic".
@JasonWW2000
@JasonWW2000 6 лет назад
Randall Blyler - It may be more than semantics when dealing with steel, but when your dealing with Uru, cast may be as strong or even stronger than forged.

Could uru be a foam? Something like a two part mixture meant to expand, like expanding foam for sculpting or filling cracks. It could be a miniscule amount of material, but is engineered to react and stabilize so it doesn't explode when it leaves the gravity of the star.
@nicolaiveliki1409
@nicolaiveliki1409 6 лет назад
You can still pre-cast a weapon and then hammer (repeatedly) it to get the martensite configuration of steel to form, which is super hard (like HRC 60-65) and holds an edge very well. I don't know if Uru undergoes similar configuration changes - fictional metals are not very well documented in engineering terms

With the lightsaber against Thpr... the neutron star blast was covering a much larger surface area of him while the lightsaber is hitting him in a much smaller surface area (assuming its a stab) I'm not sure if a smaller surface area would change the outcome at all though

And my second note in regards to Forging... A LOT of cast weapons have to be forged after the fact. Reference Men at Arms. The originally cast axe would have been low on form and blunt. Forging was required to make it's proper shape and prepare the edge for sharpening.

With the talk about Thor's abilities, I can't help but think about the quote from the first movie: “Your Ancestors Called it Magic, but You Call it Science. I Come From a Land Where They Are One and the Same.” What this implies is that while some may consider Thor being magical, his abilities are in fact some type of advanced Asgardian technological enhancement/implant that is capable of manipulate electricity or electrons in some way. This technology might also explain why he is able to reduce the damage that x-ray blast would have done to him. If he is able to generate a magnetic field (Magneto's secret power episode in reverse) capable of deflect most of it like how Earth does it. However, the fact that he get shocked by electricity in the movie likely means the field can only deflect externally, and does not protect him when the energy is in contact. Depending how you imagine a lightsaber would work, this may or may not protect him adequately. It could deflect the blade on a slash, but might not work as well on a thrust to the hilt.

We already saw the density of Groot in GoTG1. He was able to go through both bodies, and (both sides of the) body armour, of +6 separate soldiers. Then had the strength in material to lift them all up, an flop them around like rag dolls. He’s made up of organic matter, at least as strong as any metal we have on earth.

OK Kyle, that's the 2nd weapon you inspired me to make for my D&D world. First, what i ended up calling the Fulmen Blade, which was Wonder Woman's sword, cut through anything, leave lightning trails. Now the Dyson Spear. A spear that you wielder can grow to any size. Just say the word, and it starts growing until you tell it to stop. Damage increasing when it grows, but becoming more and more impossible to actually wield.

Also about the source of lightning, depends if you are looking at the mcu or the comics. In the comics it is most certainly the hammer, its actually a entity trapped in the hammer by Odin, who can't wield the hammer due to the fact the entity is upset with being trapped. Only those the entity deem worthy gain the powers of thor. In the mcu, the hammer was simply a conductor for his power. Hence the Odin son era and Jane foster thor in the comics.
