A bookclub based off of Mimi Swartz's 'Ticker: The Quest to Create an Artificial Heart.' This bookclub includes commentary by world renowned heart surgeon Dr. O. H. "Bud" Frazier, a pioneer in the field of mechanical circulatory devices and heart failure and the Co-Director of Center for Preclinical Surgical & Interventional Research at the Texas Heart Institute. It is followed by a discussion on mechanical circulatory support between students and residents. This discussion is led by surgeons Dr. Ahmet Kilic, the Director of Heart Transplantation and Associate Professor of Surgery at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, as well Dr. Amy Fiedler, the Chief of Cardiac Surgery at the W. Middleton Veterans Administration (VA) Hospital and an Assistant Professor of Cardiac Surgery at The University of Wisconsin, Madison.
