In The Hobbit novel The Great Goblin seems to be familiar with Thorin, and based on a line from the book, I've come up with this theory. The lore theory is about how the Great Goblin might have met Thorin Oakenshield in the War of the Dwarves and Orcs. In this war Thorin fought, and it's possible that Goblin-town was part of the conflict after the Dwarves sacked Mount Gundabad and continued south until the Gladden Fields. The was ended with the famous Battle of Azanulbizar outside the East-gate of Moria. It is also in this battle that Thorin acquires the Oakenshield name, which The Great Goblin seems to know.
So it's possible that they may have met before in this war, what do you think?
