With the 1.5x scope...an operator's gadget can become obsolete. Thorn is no exception. There speculation among my friends that Ubisoft is only giving her the 1.5 cus she has an elite skin coming out soon to drive up cash flow, then the idea is that they will take the 1.5x back. They did it with Kaid did they not?
@@ifderp3397 I agree somewhat to the quicker explosion on her gadget, but I feel like they would need to decrease the damage output a little bit or the radius in which the explosion occurs still. The razorblooms already do heavy damage when they work
I find the use of the 1.5x scope as a balancing technique to be a band-aid solution. It won't solve the issues with her gadget, but it gets her pick/win rate up. To me it's Ubisoft's way of saying "we don't know what to do yet, so here you go"

@@Marvin-mq9rkI think they should make the wind up WAY faster, but make it do less max damage. Like a mobile kapkan trap. OR, hear me out here, since it's a THORN bomb.... They could make it do something akin to Gridlock for defense. Once tripped it scattered caltrop-like barbs over an area, dealing damage and slowing. That would be pretty lit.
I think what they should’ve done is either decrease activation time for the gadget by 25% or they could’ve given her 5 like kapkan has, to have brought her more in like with him as a trapper
@@Yuri-xx2gi I gave that idea as well? And the traps aren’t meant for damage, if you’re using them that way you’re playing wrong, they’re used for intel, so having more intel would very much increase her effectiveness
@dekotahhall355 Why should they be used exclusively for intel. That is such a generic concept when we already have beepers and ela for that. They should give the traps more potency so they're not glorified proxy alarms.
@@CaramelMeako They’re not used exclusively for intel, they have killing potential if the enemy can’t get away from them, but their main purpose is intel, the enemy either challenges you when they don’t want, or dies to the trap, it forces them into an unsafe area as opposed to a safe area
@@dekotahhall355 And they are used for intel because their killing potential is trash and besides intel they have no other purpose. Which takes us back full circle to what the other guy said, the lethality should be increased. I also play at a high level and before the 1.5 no one ever played thorn because, as evan said at the beginning, her gadget was the the problem and you could bring someone with proxies and get more value than thorn as a whole.
I personally think only 3 armors should have magnification on defense.... exceptions would be the slugshotguns, the UMP and Frost's gun (I think Frost, Castle and Pulse need it to be able to compete with other defenders tbh) Some of the ops that have the 1,5 rn should loose it or become 3 armors
@@jyotiradityasatpathy3546 no he's a 2/2. Maybe if he was a 3 armor he would be less annoying. Rook and doc have magnifications and you see no one complaining about them roaming

I'd say just rip the scope and double the trap count. Given its an instant kill it makes more sense for it to apply some kind of pressure. Maybe even give her the option to remotely set them off just so that attackers are out positioned.
the 1.5x can be added to an underpowered WEAPON to up its pick rate. Honestly, trying to condense an operator's performance into a single chart for the player base is cool, but I think they're making balancing decisions based on the same graph.
Before I say anything I’m still pretty new to siege so take that as you will but I think they should go about changing gadgets and utility as well as armor points. It makes more variety than a simple sight and will force players to utilize their abilities more than an acog
I used to see thorn once ever about 5 or 6 games and played yesterday and she was in every single one on my 4 games i played. Also when was the last time you died to her gadget? Without being hit by another gadget beforehand?
I main Thorn (before the update) and ran the shotgun every match because I loved that thing, but I also loved having lethal proximity alarms. People die to the "gadget" all the time in the sense that I know enough to swing on them when it triggers to catch them trying to sprint away. This update hurts a lot because I'm going to be fighting to play my main against crackhead kids with no fucking brains who just want a 1.5 optic. Ubi's "band-aid" patch is going to kill this operator when they just end up taking it away from her again and the old mains have moved on.
Bro thorns gadget is so good it gives a lot of intel and kills most of the time if you’re smart with your placement. I shoot a hole in the floor about 4 meters in front of an opening. You can either let the razorbloom do a lot of damage because they ran onto it or swing them for the easy kill.
They should just make her gadget detonate quicker but give out a distinct sound when it's placed so you can hear it. Just essentially making her a sneakier version of kapkan
They should make it so thorn could also remote detonate the razorbloom, it could work similar to Fenrir and activate by looking at it. It also would give her more intel. Plus should be bulletproof when charging to detonate.
That’s a really bad idea. The idea is that she’s meant to be a trapper. Therefore her traps shouldn’t need to be remotely activated. Making them that way is very dumb and will actually make her gadget 100x harder to use
@@voids4818 I think the keyword you missed is "also". They would remain prox based but should she want to activate it early to force attackers to not come a direction would greatly increase her gadgets power. As it stands, if an attacker simply rushed through the trap it means nothing, so the so called trap is not even a real trap just an area deterrent. Not all trap ops are the same.

She doesn’t need it, and neither does warden. I want thorn’s gadget to be better, and your suggestions only make her way too fucking convoluted
I am just shocked that they went for a Thorn change while broken ops like Azami, Solis and Fenrir are still left unchanged. Giving Thorn a 1.5 was a bad idea but not any worse than giving it to Warden and letting Mozzie still keep his on the Roni which is the most broken weapon in the game with that scope.
In defense of the devs, adding a 1.5x scope to an under performing op because of their lackluster gadget takes much less time and energy away from devs who are already working on brand new content rather than having to figure out how to rework a gadget and make sure it won’t break the game
Honestly, I'm fine with them randomly giving and taking away 1.5 scopes. It's one of those things where it spices things up in a small way and then they can easily remove it if it's broken. Yes it's a lame and easy way of increasing operator pick rates but I'm okay with that for mid season patches. Again, I am not saying I am happy with how lack luster and dull this mid season update was, I am just saying that random 1.5s being added is fine by me
Thorn gadget is just kapkan gadget with an instakill but with an activation time of 70 years, while its good for unsuspecting players it is not good for anything else and slapping 1.5x to her gun that is already good is like adding back acog to 416c or mp7, bet her pick rate gonna be the second or third highest defender operator after the 1.5x
I'm pretty sure this was Gregor that said this but he said that we should just give everybody in 1.5 at this point or take all the 1.5 away, don't quote me on this or him cuz I don't know if it was him But my stance is Thorns Gadget was the worst unreleased and the reason why she's never fixed because it's mostly her gadgets that suck their basically just elaborate proximity mines that don't do anything what they should have probably done is cut down the eruption time and half or make it so she can get more within the round like mr. Soccer dad needles
I played thorn A LOT before 1.5 … now I’ll never be able to again. Had to get creative with thorn traps (putting them before a barricaded door or on default defuse spots)
I honestly see why ubi did this. They wanna see where thorn stands on the passive agressive scale so they're experimenting with stuff to see how far they can go.
Following the massive nerf to her gun when extended barrel came out I’ve stopped playing her, with a 1.5 I’m enjoying her gun again. But I do think the gadget is massively underpowered as a trap and that should have gotten some attention before the gun
I’m glad they buffed Thorn as I think she deserves it but the 1.5 buff is an endless cycle of trash to most played op like with Warden. They need to be more creative with these buffs imo.
Adding or taking out scopes for OPs where the gadget is the issue (too OP/kapkan rework or too trash/thorn) is definitely not how they should do the balancing changes 😅
